Help with a concept character (Energy/Cold)

Hello again, my Corruptor friends.

I find myself in need of some advice. My wife rolled an Energy/Cold Corrupter yesterday for a concept she came up with. Problem is, it's her first Corruptor and I'm very uninformed about Energy Blast. I know a little about /Cold (I have one around the early 20s), but not enough to help her with a build.

So my questions are two: What are the most effective ways to build/play such a Corruptor? and, What would make a good character to duo with such a Corruptor?

Is Energy/Cold so freakish and unloved that no one will touch it for advice?

not sure about energy, but cold is awsome. are you building for pvp?

Cold is a great set. It gives you a lot of powers that let you turn enemies into mush before finishing them off.

Energy gives what I would call "solid" damage, and most of its powers cause knockback. Its powers also seem to cost a comparatively large amount of endurance for the damage output you get (due to it dealing both smashing and energy damage).

It would work, but there's not much synergy or anything. Just pop enemies with debuffs and hit them with energy attacks, and try to lay down sleet near a wall so that you can use the KB to keep them from trying to run out. When on teams, make sure and keep your buffs up and watch your KB so that it doesn't cause problems for others.

I know nothing about /cold I do know a lot about Energy blast/

Most of the powers are good you got Energy Torent and Explosive blast for AOE and Bolts, Blast, Burst for singe target after you get stamena and slot one or two end reduc you don't notice that end drane. Nova is a lot of fun but you gota keep some blues with ya.

The snipe and aim are more or less the same as they are in all the other sets

Power Push is a great utility power for soloing

I know alot about both of these sets, and for that reason I have never put them together.

The debuffs and effects in cold are by a majority... Aoe, and energy blast because of the Knockback effects is... well,, Anti Aoe.

Thank you all for the tips. No, this won't be a PvP toon. It'll generally stick to two- or three-man teams for PvE play, once we finish our current project. I think Hoverblasting will be a big part of the strategy for this one.

It sounds like I should focus on either a ranged damage and buff/sticky debuff type, like a MM or Corr, or something that can mitigate KB a bit, like a Dom, to duo with this character. Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

a dom withy a-kb immob work well if you want to negate it fully.

Wide area web grenade in the wolf spider rifle attacks also has -knockback.

A Dominator would be your best bet as people here have mentioned... you get loadsa Immobs from Plant Control, So i would suggest that.

Powers that have -KB.

Entangle
Roots
Carrion Creepers

I have seen Psi assault work very well with Plant, and the Drain psyche will help with the lack of heal from your corruptor partner.

perhaps Soul mastery would also give you another nice Aoe and a PbAoe damage buff.

oooo, think i'm gonna make a plant / psi dom now.

Here's my take on an Energy/Cold Corruptor, which mostly based on the /Cold set.

Cold Domination has a combination of slows, debuffs, and ally buffs. However, the ally buffs are done "pre-fight" (Ice & Glacial Shields, Frostworks) so they are generally fire-n-forget. That leaves most of your time debuffing and blasting. That Eng/Cold Corruptor isn't going to save you once those shields are applied, but because those are team buffs, that corruptor is very vulnerable without buffs of its own. That's where it would rely on the KB of Energy to help mitigate damage.

I've never played a Dominator, but it seems to be right if you are worried about the KB. The KB is probably the main thing to consider for a duoing partner, so range would be a good idea unless you want to be more of a support character, like a /Pain Domination toon.
