fire/kin versus giant monster
Kinetics has fantastic single target mitigation with either gratuitous -damage Fulcrum or SP+Fulcrum spam. Not to mention -Recharge and the possibility of flattening the mob's endurance (depending on the primary/secondary with the Kinetics). It just has to survive those first couple hits (which your imps can take for you) and not get mezzed and/or chain-KBed.

-Regen is not mitigation. It is barely a debuff, particularly against GMs.

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
Admittedly, I forgot to include the "excluding solo/small teams" disclaimer.
That said, I don't recall if GMs share the high debuff resistance that AVs have. Since RedTomax has been made completely worthless except for things Mids' is more than sufficient and the Wiki keeps getting altered by incompetents (at least the Archvillain_Resistance and Archvillain_resistance pages are the same thing now...and both have the resistance mod table finally), I don't know where else to look.
If they do share the same resistance...well, I'll go back to saying the -Regen debuff is worthless to consider. -50% resisted 87% becomes -6.5% and roughly equates to... Hrmm. I don't recall if GMs are on 300s or 240s for regen. Bah, whatever.

GMs do share the same resistance levels of an AV of the same level
Paladin is lvl 11 iirc, so he'd have 65% resistance to debuffs
The -recharge on Siphon Speed is unresistable, and stackable. It can make a huuuuuge dent in AV/GM damage output. Combine with excessive -dam, +dam, and good healing and /Kin makes a really good (and underrated) AV/GM soloer.

The problem I have with /Kin as an AV soloer is the frenetic nature of the set; you are continually spamming the debuffs over such a long period of time; I'd rather remove my eyes with a rusty spoon than go through that again!!
I'll be using my Ill/Storm next time.

Hey Deathless, would you be willing to try soloing a Rikti Pylon and posting your time? I've been trying to find a tweaked Fire/Kin, Storm & Cold to give it a shot to see if they can beat the best Fire/Rad times. FWIW, it takes my Fire/Rad around 10-15 min to beat Paladin on live, but he's not fully optimized, meaning he has Psi pool for IW, so my ST damage takes a big hit w/Mental Blast instead of Fire. Against Pylons, my Live build takes like 5:35, but on Test, I did it in under 4:30. All, no temps, no insps.
Oh, and /Kin mitigation through debuffs on AV/GMs are sorta minor, but the heal sure as hell isn't. Assuming you're only getting hit 7.5~8.5% of the time (at softcap), Transfusion by itself should be more than enough to keep you (and your imps if they pick up stray AoE damage) alive.
An Offensive Guide to Ice Melee
So I finally got a chance to IO out my fire/kin and decided to take it for a test drive. I was in KR at the time and came across Paladin. I said 'wth, it's only debt,' and sent my monkeys to greet his a**. To my surprise, I didn't die nor did my monkeys. It took less than fifteen minutes to take him out and without inspirations... That's almost the same time it took for my ill/rad. I've killed AVs before with my firekin but can't believe it could take out a GM (granted a weak one but I will try for something more beefier next time).
