A Thank You Note
Don't forget to thank them for not fixing a major bug that has been know to them for almost over a month.

Seriously people, the ******** and moaning is kind of ridiculous at this point.
Are you kidding me? Really? Just because a bug is known doesn't mean a) it's easily fixed and b) it's a high priority.

I've still yet to hear back on whether or not the /compatiblecursors 1 command fixes this problem for these Mac users, since Cedega users have been having to use compatiblecursors for literal years for a proper mouse in the game.

I empathize. Problems like that are infuriating and I'd be pretty upset to, if it were affecting my game play. From my perspective, though, it's just as important for me to let people know when they please me, as when they don't. And right now, they're pleasing me. I'm still high on the fact that they're supporting the Mac at all.

I've gotten a prompt response from support regarding my petitions, but the response has been pretty much: we don't know and are working on it.
It's like if your arm gets chopped off and the hospital are friendly and quick about checking you in. However, they take a long time to reattach your arm. Sure you can praise them for being nice, but it doesn't get you your arm back.
At this point, I'm pretty much resigned to living the rest of my life as a one-armed-man.

basically, if you see a miki on Triumph, it's probably cute and it's probably me.
Huge thanks to cuppamanga and all the folks in the mac help forum for prolonging my borrowed time on this game.
That's because you're just starting off with the mac version of the software. The rest of us have gotten used to playing the game without having to spend 20 min clicking and clicking and clicking to slot enhancements or have to jump to click on a teammate in a screen full of zombies (or anything for that matter).

Or, she may not be using a card that has any of these problems. I know I don't have any cursor issues at all on my MacBook Pro. It's possible (read: fact) that this isn't an issue that affects all Mac users.

Cuppamanga's already been through this, there are two types of GMA cards with which the glitch occurs. One that is supported and one that is not. My mac book, because it is an ancient 3 year old, has the unsupported one. However, they still need to do something to fix the bug because it also occurs with the supported card.
Because my personal computer is not officially supported, I have resigned myself to the crappy play experience because i like the game and the people.
I'm just stating tht my dissapointment is greater than my appreciation atm. I am very much hoping that they will be able to resolve the issue for us despite our lack of hardware or inability to purchase new ones.

I'm honestly not trying to belittle or begrudge you your frustrations. Not being able to play the game in a decent fashion sucks, but the hyperbole around here has grown to epic levels and it's hard not to comment on it.
There's already a thread regarding the complaint. Please try not to be rude and threadjack the OP's compliment.

The second response I gave was in response to the first.
This is, after all, a forum (i.e., a place for discussion).

I think most of us for whom gameplay has become difficult (due to the bug) do not mean disrespect for the OP. Its just that a compliment for a bugged issue feels a bit counterproductive to what we felt has been a struggle to get dev/official response for.
We GMA people feel nervous that the devs might one day just throw up their hands about it and say, "look! we have enough mac users happy enough with the game as is, so let's just wash our hands of the whole GMA population and go from there." In which case, those of us who have decided to wait patiently for help, will have to decide whether or not to stay with the game ( ).
Therefore (if you want a direct connection to the original topic) the point of this response is: Does this version of Mac CoH merit a compliment even if it doesn't function properly for all supported Mac platforms?

The funny thing about being a CoH for Mac user is that the game developers are Windows based. Us Mac users, in some cases, might know more about our Macs than they do.
What that means is, we have to think preventatively. When you see a new build of the Mac client on the Training Room, test the hell out of it. Send bug reports when you see bugs, don't depend on someone else reporting it. Pretend that you're *always* beta-testing the Mac client, and every bit of information you can provide, any help you can lend, may be useful.
I know it's not our "job", but while the Windows user base is like the population of a small city, the Mac user base is more like a small town. We all have to work together to make it work. And the more we work at it, the more the devs understand how it works - we're making them experts!

The Mac and Linux clients share the same underlying engine, and any and all information that flows back to Transgaming aids in improving the client for everybody else. It also might sound a bit daft, but if you're running both Cedega and the Mac Cider client and you find a bug, report it both through the in game /bug system, and take a minute to drop by http://www.cedega.com/support/ and leave a support ticket.
Although this forum appears to be mostly for technical support, I am not sure where else would be appropriate to post this.
I had been dual-booting my MacPro ever since I got it, specifically so I would have a Windows installation to play games on, including, of course City of Heroes. Then, a couple of weeks ago, my graphics card died, and I had to order and install a replacement. The machine booted back up with the replacement card installed, and worked without a hitch on OS X, but Windows XP would not see the card. Searching the web pretty much verified what my gut was starting to tell me; that I was going to have to blow away my installation and reinstall. But before going that route, I decided to test and see how the City of Heroes Mac client worked. I was amazed at how beautifully it ran. Yeah, I have a few glitches with the mouse on occasion, but certainly nothing show-stopping. And, on this machine anyway, both the color depth and the smoothness of the character motion are actually superior to what I was seeing on XP. So, I was able to abandon that somewhat cumbersome dual-boot routine entirely; I blew the BootCamp installation away and haven't looked back. I guess this all winds up to a big "Thank You" to the Devs and NCSoft for the Mac client. Really great! |
I don't bother to dual boot because I refuse to waste the $100 dollars on a copy of windows.
You have at least 1 new subscriber because of the native mac client.
It is nice to have a native mac mmo. Thx guys for taking the time to get the game running (even if it's under cider ).
