In this game, as with any MMO with "loot," there are two ways of obtaining said loot: complete certain tasks and hope you get the piece you want, or buy it on the market. CoX is particularly forgiving in terms of loot because there's no such thing as "bind on pickup" or even, to an extent, "bind on equip." The only exceptions to this rule are non-tradeable salvage such as Vanguard or reward merits - Vangard merits are only useful for purchasing character-specific items, and reward merits can be used to purchase items which can be freely moved between characters. CoX doesn't require that you sit forever at location X waiting for mob Y to spawn so you can get a chance at leet gear Z.

In short, the "if you don't use the market, suffer" attitude is at least somewhat correct because that's half of the loot game. When your other option is to kill lots and lots of stuff and hope you get exactly the right drops, the market begins to look a lot more appealing. Besides, everyone who's against the market always takes their stance as though the market is a buy-only establishment, while it's incredibly easy to use it as a buying and selling establishment.

In actuality, there already is a price cap exactly a hundred times that amount.

Ragman is just having some fun.

He advocates price caps because it would vastly increase profits for sellers of 'the good stuff', a point that reliably sails over the head of the earnest types that generally suggest it.

I was buying and holding when purples were in the 50-55 million range and they cashed out when they were very very scare releasing them in the market slowly. I still have a stock full that I purchased in the mid 50 million range. Not sure what I am going to do with them yet. Might just slot them into my Fire/Kin Corr since I only have one set of purples in one toon I might just slot into another one.

Looking at salvage prices today I got a sense of deja vu. A number of pieces of rare salvage have doubled in price and high level uncommons and commons are pretty much worthless. The market looks like it's returning to pre-AE prices, and if this is any indication then purples will follow suit.

However, I'm thinking that purple prices might go even lower than their pre-AE prices. 4XP and SRSLY (the in-game names for the difficulty settings, blue and redside respectively) have opened up farming to a wider group of people, and even non-farmers running missions at level 50 will probably be doing so on settings higher than x1.
