Why PvP?

Recently I have started running PvP events again. I do this because I enjoy PvP. I am more casual about it then others but I find plenty of enjoyment out of PvP. Plenty of frustrations too but thats for another time. Recently I have been asked by a few people, Why PvP?

That on its own merit confused me for a moment. Then I thought about it and considered the fact. Why PvP? Thats when I generated a nice little list of good reasons to PvP

1. The Challenge - The AI for the most part is fairly easy to deal with. However other players, now there is something to will get me thinking. Going up against good PvPers to make me think and rethinking tactics, speed up reaction time and get the old adrenaline pumping.

2. The People - PvPers get a bad rap because of a few. Alot of the PvPers I know are actually not only good players but good people too. They are helpful, answer questions and are generally fun.

3. The Zone Fights - I am talking large scale zone battles here. Nothing more fun then 10 plus players on each side battling it out. Between the numbers game and surviving it really is alot of fun. Coordinated team assaults are also a blast.

4. 1v1 Arena Fights - (not Fite Club) - Just you, your build and your strategy. Makes for some adrenaline filled fights, depending on your opponent and how well you are doing. Regardless these fights are fun.

5. Team PvP - Working together to accomplish a singular goal, Win and defeat as many opponents as possible. The strategy, the coordination and the overall play really locks me into team PvP.

6. Battle Royals - Oh man, 20 plus people fighting for their own means against everyone else. Getting in your final attack before someone takes your kill. Getting in the final blow to grab a kill for yourself. Defending yourself against an onslaught of attackers.

7. Tournaments - No matter what the settings are its win or watch. Puts everything to the test. Not everyone wins but usually everyone has a good time.

Overall for me PvP enhances my gameplay. I still enjoy aspects of PvE but PvP fills those gaps that PvE just can not provide. As a bonus I enjoy the company I find when I PvP.

I close this post with a question, Why do you PvP?

The tl;dr version: Why I like PvP? Why do you like PvP?

Only thing I would add is a chance to get a PvP IO recipe that sells for the influence/infamy cap.

These two are the main reason I pvp. I like to push my character's limits and see what tactics work for them. I also like the pvp crowd, if one is willing to learn from them, they will see that they are some of the best players in this game. I have pretty thick skin so the trash talking doesn't bother me much, even though I would preffer not to deal with it. But those are my reasons for pvping, more of a personal challenge than anything.

Oh and yeah the PvP IO's are nice when they drop

Pretty comprehensive, and a Big +1.

The only thing I would add is:

8. Because I'm Evil!

PvP really can be fun!

Of course, I have done so little of it in a while, that I don't even know how it works anymore. Oh well, if you aren't afraid to lose, PvP is pretty easy to learn!

After playing since just a bit after launch, I just started doing a little PvP. I have had a lot of fun in Recluse's Victory. And the people there were not bad at all, and pretty helpful. I still enjoy PvE more, but PvP is a fun diversion. I'm still learning the ropes, like when it's okay to get a heavy and when it's not and how to tell when two people are dueling and I shouldn't get involved and how to get on teams.

I sure would like to get a group to take out the AVs there, just to do it. Looks like fun. Come to think of it... maybe I should set something up.

If you see Nakoa jumping around in RV, send me an invite.

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

If there are heavies available, take them.

Never. There's only one rule in zone PvP, and it's simple: if someone is an enemy, kill them. You might get crap for "breaking up a duel" but that's when you politely inform them that they can duel in peace in the arena via the /arenalist command. If they choose not to listen, then hey, free rep for you.

Hm. I was in battle last week and was asked by the other heroes not to get a heavy because it was overkill. I guess we outnumbered the villains and so it wasn't fair. I nwent along.

Dueling in zones is like having sex in the park. Yes, it can be fun and exciting, but don't be surprised if someone interrupts you and catches you with your pants down. If you want privacy, GET A ROOM!

That said, you don't HAVE to break up duels if you don't want to. There are plenty of times I have let people have their one on one. And other times where I have broken them up.

One of the few times I was in a PvP zone I ran in to this. I think it's Siren's Call where you get bounties for players in-zone. I missed the /broadcast announcement by a couple of people that were dueling or rep farming (this was before the fix for that) or whatever it was they were doing in the corner. Being clueless to what was going on I defeated my bounty and was promptly subjected to all sorts of nasty /tells about it. This was followed by drone teleporting and other fun things before I finally managed to get out of the zone. Is still the only bounty kill I've ever managed to do though I think, but then, I'm not a PvPer... was just curious how the bounty thing worked.

I do it because i like being competitive. Throw in the fact that it creates good in game friendships and its win win.

A comment to go with the zone dueling don't use a heavy stuff. If someone complains about something you did in pvp odds are you probably did something right. Block out what they say and do what you so.

Duel me.
I will work on my sig pic more when I have time.

Con is good, Con is wise.

I don't really PvP anymore. I'm too bitter. But, I still mess around in the zones a bit. Why? Good friends = Good times, regardless of what you're doing.
