Stone without Granite?
Oh, I didn't mean to say he can't do it, and I didn't mean to offend you by using the term misleading back at you (I wasn't offended by your term for the record, and hope you weren't by mine). I have used just Rock Armor, Minerals and Rooted (and of course Mudpots) to lead tank, but I also have Granite - which honestly makes more sense from an endurance management standpoint, but I digress.
My only point was that I was confused by his question - why roll a stoner without granite when, for the most part in lead tank situations, when there are other all defense sets (okay, mostly defense sets) that do it better than stone sans granite. If he wants to, more power to him, and he absolutely can do it, but I'm just confused is all. Good luck! |
The big difference between stone and ice is end use.
To get decent protection out of ice or non granite stone, you need to run a lot of toggles. Ice has the tools to enable you to do this, stone doesn't.
Sure you can get round this with IOs and physical perfection, but 26-44 you will suck compared to an ice tank for that reason alone.
Also, you are slower out of granite than in it as you need to run rooted out of granite, and don't need it most of the time when in it. Rooted has a bigger move penalty than granite does.
Unless you're building a tank for something specific like farming psi mobs, an ice tank outperforms a non granite stone in most normal circumstances. You just have to accept that there are a few missions where you will suck, Antimatter's blue clocks being a prime example.
It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba

Myra the Grey: lvl 50 Bots/Traps

Ok, I want Mud Pots so I can soak up hate like a sponge, but I hate granite, would it be silly to not take granite and try and tank using the lesser armors?
Would I still be able to alpha tank without Granite armor? |
Unlike all other defensive oriented tankers, Stone has no tool that scales their survival based on surrounding foes (even dark gets one with their heal) and you lack any utility (unless you consider some perception and end drain resistance to be utility, you get no fun toys like Shields or Fire.)
Just dual build it!!!
One with all the armors, meta slotting and the like.
Second on Granite for those OMG moments.
MP for both.
Switch as needed.
