Intel GMA tests

So, per CuppaManga's suggestion, this is nothing more than a series of quick tests on the current mouse bug.

Quick hardware stats: MacBook running Leopard, 2GB Ram, Intel GMA X3100 built-in card with 144 VRAM.

Started CoX, no problems with log-on or character select screen at all. Have not tested character creator yet. I went ahead and switched to windowed mode to see if starting it up in that mode would help fix it. No dice. Logged into Ouroburos, with the cursor still jumping whenever mouse-overed anything (players, enemies, NPCs, glowies have all been seen). Switched resolution to 1024x768, then restarted for it to take effect. (also switched all video settings to their lowest available settings)

1024x768 - mousebug still very much present.

800x600 - Same

Running a Mac mini connected to a Panasonic HD LCD projector here.

Running in native 1280x720 on Leopard.

Thinking that most GMA users are probably running in "Performance" mode (as I do), I experimented with "Recommended", and while I was at it, "Minimum" and "Maximum" graphics levels.

No luck there either.

I also tried going up from 720 to 1080, since my projector also accepts that as "native" and auto-scales it. No joy.

Running a Macbook Intel 2.4GHz with 4gb RAM, GMA X3100, 144mb VRAM on 10.6.1.
Same results after switching resolution. Mouse just does not like anything it can interact with, including salvage, but not recipes.
Contacted NC Soft support and they asked for a system profile file to examine the problem. Will post any results or workarounds.

Hey Hey!

Let's not forget those of us with the GMA 950! We wanna play too!

The 950 isn't *officially* supported because it has texture problems due to incomplete OpenGL implementation (that's why you see broken/missing textures). BUT, the mouse bug isn't related to that, so once it's fixed for the GMA 3100 it should work correctly on the 950 as well.

If you send a petition and you have a 950 it'll tell Support how widespread the problem is but you'll probably get a blowoff response.

Btw, as an aside: Whenever the next Mac client comes along it'll probably be on the Training Room first for a while. It would be very helpful if a few Intel GMA users volunteer to test it before it publishes to live.

Which I still think is silly. I was playing on a GMA 950 Mac mini using Boot Camp and Windows XP since before the mac client even came out, and then on the mac client ever since. Running in "Performance" mode, the only issue I've ever noticed was that it can't do diffuse lighting, so in the evening all the streetlights have lighter-shaded "boxes" around them. Playing on the Windows client, there wasn't even that issue. A tiny bit more work on their part, and they could officially support A LOT of Macs out there which they currently don't.

Agreed. Hopefully they don't respond to this bug by simply raising the system requirements. I wouldn't put it past them.

This is what I got from NC Soft Tech Support after performing a few diagnostic things that did not work:

"Thank you for the information. This is a bug that has shown up on select systems after the last update. The developers are aware of it and are working very hard to resolve it as soon as possible"

I hope as soon as possible mean before next weekend...

I'm almost 100% certain it'll be up before next weekend.

As long as the Devs are aware that there is a wide-spanning problem against the platform, odds are they are already working something out.

The sad thing is that whatever NCSoft decides to do, they have to pitch it to Transgaming, which has to think, then respond, then NCSoft has to think about THAT and...

Whatever, I'm just happy I can play something other than WoW on my Mac.

I hope so, this bug is quickly sucking all the joy out of playing. It takes forever to lvl up or even select a mish.

basically, if you see a miki on Triumph, it's probably cute and it's probably me.

Huge thanks to cuppamanga and all the folks in the mac help forum for prolonging my borrowed time on this game.

I you left click & drag your mouse close to the text - without reaching the point where your mouse resets -
and then rightclick, the next time your mouse will reset is there. With some time you can actually let it reset ON the text but it takes too much effort. But if you just set it to reset close to the text, you'll have an easier time checking for mishes, lvling up etc. Every time you open a conversation you have to do this again though, but it makes mishes acceptable now.

p.s. once you've asked for available mishes, just click the mission description you get with the text - beats clicking accept in the text & works aswell.

p.s. 2 I read the thread "orange hands are back" and actually it set me thinking, before the update I had that blue hand to drag stuff. After the patch the troubles kicked in and the hands changed to orange. Is there a chance there's a connection?

Hope this helps you people a bit
So steps are (coz it's a bit hectic): get your mouse close to the text you want to select(without letting it jump), left+rightclick at that spot, then your mouse will reset at that clicked point - so it's much easier to select your wanted text(usually 1-2 clickiing tries)

As i mentioned before, that only works on screens with your toon in them. the "trick" doesn't work on other screens like the enhancement slotting or AE mish builder. With or without these workarounds, the game is still annoying. fighting off a zombie invasion pissed me off something awful when all of a sudden, 50 clickable, moving objects filled my screen.

yah you're totally right - a fix would make our cohlives so much easier
but well as for targetting - i'm used to tabbing in other mmo's

Yeah, but when you have to tab through 49 goons to get to the one you want to target, it gets old really fast.

Actually, I was able to get the trick to work for enhancement slotting. You just move the cursor quickly over the enhancement you want to select then quickly click. The cursor will reset, but if your timing's good, it'll show the hand holding the enhancement once it resets.

It's not nearly as good as an actual fix (and I'm not saying it's a okay to have a busted client), but it works in the mean time.

With some practice with Dume's technique, I'm able to more or less function in Paragon City, which is nice . It's just a bit of a pain until they fix it.

I'm doing the same thing for my enh - i had fun reslotting my WS, as you said doable - but a fix is sounding like heaven at the moment

Few days ago support told me they'd escalate my ticket to receive more support from the tech staff, but I think they just told me that to stop mailing them
