I'm currently playing around on Mid's for a final build regarding my Fire/Regen. (For all you forumites who provided me with advice in creating him, thanks! I love him!) Currently I've gotten Hasten to 136.7s recharge without purples, and at around 127s with (I think) 6 purple sets.
Can you guys see any way to squeeze in any more recharge to possibly perma-hasten? Perma-Hasten would give me constant Dull Pain and an attack chain that is GFS>Incinerate, repeat (unless I'm missing something here), so having Hasten on Perma would make this build just ridiculous enough.

When using OG, is another stun really necessary? I'm a /Dark Defender, so I was planning on taking Dark Pit and OG, slotting both of them up with Stupefy. But, I noticed the other day (have OG on my pre-respec build) that the stun seemed to be stacking, as there were some LTs that were effected.
If I'm planning on slotting OG with Stupefy, which pulses every 2 seconds (according to Tomax), and the stun lasts around 17 seconds fully slotted, even with higher ranks resisting more of the stun, wouldn't that be enough to keep most LTs stunned and occasionally a boss? Is a second stun power really necessary for OG to be used to its fullest potential?
Maybe I'm wrong, but I wanted to check before dropping 4 slots on Dark Pit.
Edit: Ignore this. After testing it, I was wrong. Must have been a teammate's power stunning the LTs. -
Based on the info (which came really quickly, thanks!), I think I'm gonna have to try a Fire/Regen, then if that doesn't work, maybe a BS/Regen. You all were really helpful in gathering this.
So, I guess the naming rights go to DaveMebs or Lith for my new Fire/Regen (if you'd like them, of course)? -
Hey all.
Most of my experience in CoX has been with Blasters and Defenders, and I feel like it's time to put down the nukes and buffs for a little bit and strap on the boxing gloves. I've always really wanted to try a scrapper, but everytime I start one, I end up not liking them for some unknown reason. So, I thought I'd come and ask the forum gurus for some help picking out sets that would fit what I'm looking for.
And now, a list!
- My main desire is a soloing toon. I'm tired of needing teammates to soak up damage or deal it, since I sometimes only have time to play at weird hours. So a secondary that provides good mitigation over utility/damage boosts.
- Would like a primary in the middle of the ST - AoE continuum. Spines just didn't deal the ST damage I sometimes needed, but it is most definitely awesome to knock down a dozen minions at once.
- I'd like PvP to be an option, as I would like to eventually experience it.
- While I'm not made of Influence on my other toons, I am definitely willing to eventually spend quite a bit on this toon. Though I definitely prefer not to use anything but generic IOs until 47. So, preferably not a secondary that needs IOs to be manageable as a soloer/leveller.
- EDIT: Almost forgot. I've always wanted to solo an AV, but isn't this more or less possible with any set selection with a decent build?
P.S. As a bonus, whoever picks the set selection I like most gets to name it! (If you want, of course) -
You know, in some ways, I'm really going to miss the mousebug (Or Muggy, as I've come to refer to him).
All those times the tank hit 20% health because I couldn't move my mouse over the mobs on screen to the team tab to rebuff/heal him...
Whenever I couldn't accept a rez because of enemies crowded around my corpse...
How I haven't been able to respec for about 3 weeks, even after completing TV, since it was just too painful...
Making the Halloween event a nightmare to click on a simple giant banner...
...Wait, you know what? Never mind. -
Honestly don't think I can disagree with anything that's been said.
I'm working on a new version of my build, something that slot-wise is probably going to be very different.
So, my question to all you senior defenders out there:
What do you look for most in set bonuses?
I know this is a completely subjective question, but I'm just looking for opinion. Leveling (before I was fully slotted) I focused on Recovery and End (hence the large number of Impervium Armor sets), but now that I'm approaching end-game, I'm seeing endurance as less and less of a problem. So where should my slots go?
Just like to see what the community thinks. -
I love my Sonic/Dark. With the combined Sonic buffs and Dark Debuffs, it's like I'm buffing my teammates in both DamRes and Defense. Even half slotted like he is now (debuffs more than my shields, fyi) my team's health rarely drops below 90% unless we're doing something large and chaotic like Rikti ship raids.
P_Nut (Not that I'm some guru) :
Main worry I have is in taking Blackstar with the Leadership pool. Popping the nuke will drop Disruption, Dispersion, Tactics, Maneuvers, and Assault. That's a lot of Support lost just for one power. When it comes to the Defender nuke, I'm a big believer in "to each his own", but I was greatly underwhelmed when I took it at first, since it shuts down so much.
Also, I can't recommend the Epic Armor enough. Sonic/Dark is SQUISHIE without some extra defense from set bonuses or the resistances from armors, since your only out-of-the-box mitigation is from your bubble. Since getting my armor, I've (narrowly) avoided a number of faceplants. I also use mine as a mule for the special Resistance set globals, so I could max the resistance on my buffs and bubble.
How is Oppressive Gloom? Wondered when I saw it, but haven't toyed with it yet. -

Only thing to note is that I took part of Oedipus's advice and dropped Clarity, but instead picked up Recall Friend. I just find myself in need of TPs or the ability to TP someone else way too often. -
Managed to get on a PC and run Mids today, so here's the Mid's version (plus a couple of tweaks)

A couple of points:
The only real IO mules are Tactics (for Gaussian's ridiculous DEF boosts) and Dark Embrace (I'm taking an armor anyways, but it's a nice spot to slide a number of globals).
No Hasten, since I've noticed that the only way I can pull aggro is (very occasionally) with Hasten. Since I often run my attack chain on auto-pilot while managing buffs and endurance, this has lead to me occasionally dying since I didn't realize how much damage I was taking.
Lots of toggles, since I'm essentially an aura buffer. With Sonic dispersion, I have to be in the middle of the action anyways, and since that and Disruption need to be active at all times, I decide to go the full toggle/leadership route for buffs and neglect the nuke.
Tried to a decent amount of defenses without compromising too much. More is always appreciated, however.
Also, my APP choice is not set in stone. If anyone can provide a decent reason for any of the others, then I'm fine with changing. I just picked Dark for some needed additional AoE damage and for thematic reasons. But really any of them could work.
Anyway, any comments are appreciated!
Thanks! -
Hey forumites.
My main is nearing 50 after a couple of months of playing, and it's nearing time to fully respec him for his life at level cap. So, if you got some time, I'd appreciate giving this a real-quick glance through and give me some opinions. Just please know that he's meant 100% for damage mitigation and team support, not for soloing or damage in the least (well, except for the PPP AoEs)
Any suggestions, from slotting, to where the slots should be, to power choices are completely welcome.
Thanks!
(Sorry, no Mids, only have a Mac)

Quote:Actually, I was able to get the trick to work for enhancement slotting. You just move the cursor quickly over the enhancement you want to select then quickly click. The cursor will reset, but if your timing's good, it'll show the hand holding the enhancement once it resets.the "trick" doesn't work on other screens like the enhancement slotting or AE mish builder.
It's not nearly as good as an actual fix (and I'm not saying it's a okay to have a busted client), but it works in the mean time.
With some practice with Dume's technique, I'm able to more or less function in Paragon City, which is nice. It's just a bit of a pain until they fix it.

I'm almost 100% certain it'll be up before next weekend.
As long as the Devs are aware that there is a wide-spanning problem against the platform, odds are they are already working something out.
The sad thing is that whatever NCSoft decides to do, they have to pitch it to Transgaming, which has to think, then respond, then NCSoft has to think about THAT and...
Whatever, I'm just happy I can play something other than WoW on my Mac. -
So, per CuppaManga's suggestion, this is nothing more than a series of quick tests on the current mouse bug.
Quick hardware stats: MacBook running Leopard, 2GB Ram, Intel GMA X3100 built-in card with 144 VRAM.
Started CoX, no problems with log-on or character select screen at all. Have not tested character creator yet. I went ahead and switched to windowed mode to see if starting it up in that mode would help fix it. No dice. Logged into Ouroburos, with the cursor still jumping whenever mouse-overed anything (players, enemies, NPCs, glowies have all been seen). Switched resolution to 1024x768, then restarted for it to take effect. (also switched all video settings to their lowest available settings)
1024x768 - mousebug still very much present.
800x600 - Same -
Same here. Mac Book running Leopard.
Lost out on an SG TF tonight because I couldn't even click on my teammates to buff them =/
I just hope it's fixed before Double XP. -
Hm. That's also a possibility. I guess something else that would have helped if I had mentioned it was that I'm a Sonic/Dark Defender and most of my Dark Blast abilities are getting slotted for ToHit Debuffs, since while I technically could do some decent damage, I'm mostly aiming for damage mitigation. The reason I bring this up is that unless I fall asleep at the keyboard, everything around me should have ToHit Debuffs up.
Which is not to say that Defense is useless, of course, but it does sorta raise my "defense" in a way.
Thanks for the advice, though! I really have no idea of what to expect when I hit 50, so anything's more than what I got. -
Hey all,
Relatively new to CoH, but love it so far. My current main is a Sonic/Dark Defender that I pretty much exclusively use for teaming and TFs. That said, I wanted to see if I wasn't too off-base on something I thought up for slotting him once he reaches a respectable enough level.
It seems to me that the set bonuses for Aegis are mostly aimed towards tanks slotting Resistance powers, rather than for Defenders who (hopefully) won't be taking the brunt of the damage and therefore need less defense in their build. (Although it is entirely possible that I don't understand how damage/combat/a Defender's role in combat works at 50)
Therefore, is it a solid decision to opt out of Aegis and instead use level 40 Impervium Armor sets in my powers? It seems to me that I'd get more benefit from increased Recovery and Endurance than from increased defenses. I would be taking a hit to my powers' resistance ratings, not a huge amount and (since this is my first real toon) it would save me a lot of painful grinding.
Thanks in advance.
(tl;dr Is using Impervium Armor over Aegis viable a 50 for a primarily teaming Sonic/ Defender?)
