RV defense drop question

When I went into RV I noticed my.. along with everyones defense drops. Is this a percentage drop or does it set all defense to an established percent for that zone?

Welcome to I13 and diminishing returns. Any modifications to any base attributes of your characters cause DR (though some less than others) - slotted enhancements, IOs, your own powers, external buffs, everything. Every aspect gets DRd too - defense, resistance, regen, recovery, recharge, HP, damage, and so on. You're asking about defense, and unfortunately the DR curve is quite harsh for defense, at least on squishies - you'll be lucky to hit 20% defense on a squishy, while melee ATs have a DR cap in the 50-60% range. Basically, as you add more and more defense, the benefit you get from it will be less and less until it's not worth it anymore (on my MM, which runs around 30% smash/lethal defense in PvE, I have about 15% in PvP, and adding PB'd Veng to the mix bumps that up to about 19%, as opposed to 75% or so it'd be in PvE).

Yet another one of the I13 changes that wasn't documented in-game which only serves to confuse potential new PvPers even more.

HP's one of those aspects where DR hits it minimally, if at all. Other than that I'm pretty sure DR axes everything badly past a certain value.

I dont think the maxhp bonuses are too harsh.

As much +hp bonuses as I got together my Brute has...

3,147hp in PvE
3,111hp in PvP

(SS/Invuln w/ DP)

I have my ninjitsu Stalker

I turn on my toggles, YAY 25% positional def.

**, I r being attacked by leik 15 ppl. I hit retsu.

OMG I R UNSTOPPABLE. Owait i only have 45% positional def.

Wait thar, I kan still hit shadow meld!!!

OMG U KANT HIT ME. Owait, i only have 49% positional def.

YAY DR!!

And wenn people hit you they hit hard since everyone abusses long animation powers and you haz 10% res lol

How are people, and especially people that only PvE'ed so far, supposed to PvP when it does all those weird things that noone really understands and works totally different than PvE?

Sure, fighting against players is always different than fighting against npcs, but with all those weird hidden changes to PvE? Even I hardly set foot in PvP zones anymore for the changes happening to my character then that I first have to learn more about, and I DO have some casual PvP experience.
Well maybe I am weird myself, but I dont like being faceplanted and looking like a total whimp because I didnt understand the mechanics behind it.

For newcomers PvP must be that other game that other people with other builds play with different rules, where they have no chance because it has nothing to do with the PvE game they play.

So true. And for a casual player (about 90% of it pvp) by the time I start to fully understand the pvp game will up and change again. Its expensive to IO out a toon, then have to change slotting and IOs later. Or completely gut a toon thats been ruined.

Yeah, I had soft capped SM on my /EA stalk. Now, maybe 25. Yep, hit Overload. First off, not much bonus HP since I'm near cap anyways. Second, my def did not increase much. OK, hit shadowmeld. Again, not much increase. NOW HIT DEMONIC! Nope, still not much.

Before, I would have close to 200 typed def. I would go and 'Even the Odds' so to speak since the only time I would use such an insane amount of defense is if we villains were getting wrecked.
