At A Loss as to Why!??

Greetings,

I recently download the trial version and really enjoyed it: Got my first toon to lvl 13!

However, last night when I tried to log in after taking a break, the updater worked fine but the loading screen just hung there and the program became unresponsive. After reloading the software and two more attempts I finally logged in and played till about 2am.

This morning I tried to log in and the problem started again so I assumed that it could be related to the trial version so I went out and bought a copy of Architect, installed it, registered the key, and upgraded the subscription... yadayada: But I still couldn't log in!

So I began to configure my router to open TCP 80 and set rules in my Firewall and security software to allow city of Heroes but even after all that, the load screen still hangs in a non-responsive state!

Needless to say, this is very frustrating and annoying and has tarnished what I thought was going to be an enjoyable gaming experience.

I have been gaming since the early days and have gone through several MMO's like Everquest 1, GuildWars, Warcraft, and Age of Conan which I was dropping for City of Heroes so it's not like I don't know my way around but I am now at a loss as to why I can't log in.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers!

You'll probably get better help in the tech issues forum, but until they can help, I'd recommend verifying all your files when the launcher comes up. If you're consistently crashing at one place, you might have a corrupted file.

...I forgot what experience means.

Your best bet for a problem this serious with the game is to go through NCSoft Support and click the Ask a Question link to get direct support from the company. These forums are for players to mostly goof around on and to help each other.

I know for a fact that NCSoft doesn't want to lose a single customer if they can help it, so going directly to the company is your best bet for support to get the game working properly.

To be frank and honest, the Tech Issues forum tends to solve these issues WAY faster than Support ever does, and we have specific utilities players have built to assist with it, which seem to be lightyears beyond Support.

Many players come to the Tech forum after getting nowhere with Support.

Why not do both? If you don't get good help in the Tech Support forum, who can you complain to? You'll be yelling at the wind. If you can't get good help at NCSoft, who can you complain to? You can hurt their wallets by leaving the game or complain to the supervisor and then THEIR supervisor, all the way up to the president of the company.

I'm not saying "don't do both", I am objecting to your recommendation of the "best place" to get help... it's not Support, sadly.

The Tech Issues forum is NOT for players to goof around (if you look, you'll see there's fairly minimal amounts of goofing), it is FULL of knowledgeable people frothing at the mouth and waiting to help with issues.

Thanks for your replies. I have submitted a ticket. I was just wondering if the community had experienced any similar issues with the solutions

If you're looking for help with a TECHNICAL issue from other players, Agge is probably right, you should go and post your issue over in that other forum. This forum is really more for general help with the game when the game's already working.

You could have skipped the "installed it" part. All playable versions of the game are identical, regardless of the status of your account. All you needed to do was register the key to upgrade your subscription status. Installing from the disc could have resulted in an earlier version being installed, and then you might have had to re-download the updates to the current version again.

On a side note, I don't really have any help regarding your specific problem, other than the same suggestion to post a CoH_Helper and HiJack This! log in a new thread on the Tech forum. They might shed some light on the situation.

Out of curiosity, how long of a break? Hours, days? And the key question, did you install or uninstall anything else in the meantime?

This sounds a little like an issue I used to have running ZoneAlarm. Basically, I set the permission for CoH, but everytime it updated, ZA would ask to authorize it again. Unfortunately, the popup window for ZA would come up behind the CoH screen, and would not be accessible.

If I recall correctly, my short term solution was to open any other application before launching CoH (generally Firefox since I like to play with paragonwiki open), so I could alt-tab and get to the popup.
