TA/ARch Defender advice

I am wondering just how good this AT hero is? Since they are not in the blaster class, how good is the damage they put out? What is the role of a team defender of these power sets since it is not in the controller class? What powers can I skip? I was a huge fan of Hawkeye, reading the comics when I was a kid and playing a toon with archery characteristics would be fun. Please fill me in on the role of this toon in a team(not much of a soloer) and the power choices I can skip. Thanks guys in advance!

I own lvl 50 Trick Arrow & Archery Defender.

I enjoy TA quite a bit, that I put up with piddly dmg of a defender. To be honest if you solo quite a bit, you would be better off making a Archery/Trick Arrow Corrupter.

But as a team player, they are very helpful & really make a team move quicker through mobs.

I suggest you talk to Lum, here a link to her Profile, you can send a PM and ask or link this post to it, see the Lum replys.

Oil Slick can, when slotted for damage, defeat +1 minions by itself. A combo of Rain of Arrows, Fistful of Arrows and Explosive Arrow can take out +0 minions. For single-target purposes, TA/A is a little weaker due to Snap Shot's pitiful damage, but proper use of buffs (Aim, Assault, etc.) and debuffs (primarily Acid and Disruption) helps quite a bit.

It doesn't shine in the low levels, though. TA/A is a build which really needs time to mature, it doesn't hit its stride until the middle levels and later.

Weakening and defeating enemies, and assisting teammates in defeating enemies. However, TA is considered a "control-heavy" primary, with the best targeted AoE control in the game, an AoE chance for Sleep, a single-target Hold and a single-target Immobilize, so TA/* can substitute for a controller in some situations.

Read my TA guide (i apologize for the formatting, i haven't had time to fix what the forum migration broke), and my Archery guide (see previous apology). There is no consensus on what can be skipped in TA or Archery, so you'll have to make those decisions for yourself. I typically skip Entangling Arrow on all of my TA/* defenders, whereas others skip Flash Arrow. I rarely use Ranged Shot or Stunning Shot for anything more than IO set bonus mules, but other players use them frequently.

Powers you should not skip include, but are not limited to, Glue Arrow, Acid Arrow, Disruption Arrow, Poison Gas Arrow, Oil Slick Arrow, Blazing Arrow and Rain of Arrows. I don't advise skipping Aimed Shot or Fistful of Arrows either, but they aren't critical powers and no-one will take away your Archer's Anonymous card if you do. Everything else is entirely up to you.

Good to hear this. I have a lvl 25 TA/A and it is paaaaiiiinnnful to solo most of the time. In groups I feel like I'm pulling my weight but those periods of LFT and soloing are grinding on my little defender soul.

When my TA/A was a lowbie, I played him when I specifically wanted slow, methodical gameplay--more like a Thief-style game. Sneaking around, picking off mobs one at a time, usually by 'porting them away from their spawns; I got really good at using Teleport Foe in the process. It took me several evenings of play to solo the Posi TF that way, though that was back when TA was new, and hadn't gotten any buffs yet.

The Way of the Corruptor (Arc ID 49834): Hey villains! Do something for yourself for a change--like twisting the elements to your will. All that's standing in your way are a few secret societies...and Champions of the four elements.

Here's a question regarding Siphon Insight's proc:

Slot the Siphon Insight proc into Flash Arrow for Trick Arrow.
Is the chance to proc checked per use of the power, or per target affected?
If the check is per target affected ... can you get Siphon Insight to proc multiple times per use of Flash Arrow?
Note that since the Siphon Insight proc affects self only, it does not prematurely draw aggro by immediately alerting mobs affected by Flash Arrow of your presence (although they may still prefer you by default once aggroed since you were the first to debuff them).

Related Question:

Slot Analyze Weakness proc into Acid Arrow for Trick Arrow.
Is the chance to proc checked per use of the power, or per target affected?
If the check is per target affected ... can you get Analyze Weakness to proc multiple times per use of Acid Arrow?

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...
