SS/WP build questions

Was wondering what one focuses on when it comes to IOing out a SS/WP brute. Am I supposed to focus on regen or def or what? I have no idea how to build for IOs so any help would be appreciated. I have flight as a travel power and swift/health/stam. I hear Air Sup. is good but I just don't like the way it looks so I use Hover.

I will eventually have everything but handclap in SS and everything in WP (might skip resurgence but it is handy to have when things go downhill.

Hurl is skippable, like Handclap. As a /WP character, you benefit from having your foes piled on you.

Here's my 50 SS/WP's build. I can solo the Possessed Scientists ship map at Team Size 4, Level +2, Yes Bosses, No AVs just fine.

I start by popping Rage and Hasten, target the red-conning Lt in the mob, then run up and hit him with Knockout Blow and Footstomp. Once I've built up about a half a bar of Fury, those two alone take off about 2/3 of his HP.

After that, my attack chain is just Air Superiority (set to AutoFire) -> Punch - Haymaker -> Repeat, and I use Knockout Blow and Footstomp as they come back up.

I'm starting to actually use Taunt, so now, when I remember, I'll start with Taunt on the Lt, and then go into Knockout Blow -> Footstomp etc.

But what about IO sets? I have no idea what to focus on with those, let alone where to slot them. Any thoughts?

This is how i have my em/wp brute sloted, when fighting one enemy with no accolades you are at 67.1 hp regen, and with the +hp accolades with one enemy you sit at 77.1 hp regen. I mostly use this guy for soloing since I find WP brutes are a weak for the higher lvl sf's (unless you get major buff's). As far as what io's you should take I would use at least 3 numis in RttC for the regen, and hp sets. Also, I like Touch of Death since as a WP you want to have people in melee range to fight you. Hopefully this helped you out a little bit even tho its not the same primary...

I have a ss/wp built almost identical to yours except he does have air superiority and he's currently lvl 31 but, I plan on not using many set bonuses. I'll focus on damage set bonuses and anything in those that help with regen and defense and resist will help. For WP I won't really put many set bonuses in there because I'm just going to max out the defense, resist and healing in them with IO enh not sets because I find that set bonuses force you to take a hit for your bonuses.

for example: I can have everything maxed in a power but once I put in the lvl 50 set bonuses in that power I wont be maxed, but I'll have whatever that bonus gives me. (If your are rich enough to get 53 set bonuses this doesn't apply)

So it's all about personal choice. I prefer taking a small hit in damage for my set bonuses instead of taking the small hit in wp.I'll probably focus on regen and resist but I find it's just what you prefer and think you need more of. Sorry if it may sound a bit confusing, I'll be subscribed to this thread if you have any questions.

Interesting Eian, that is some really high regen there. And yeah I know what you mean about loosing some effect with set Desitre. I Think im gonna end up going with alot of regen and try and get recharge/damage bonuses out of the attacks. Ill post again when I figure something out.

Ok, this is what I came up with. Thoughts? BTW pay no attn to slot levels, i just threw it together hehe. Wasn't taking leveling into account.

Great build man, you are going to mess things up with that! I'll have take that build into consideration when I'm high enough to start focusing on IOs. Although I actually have a question, as a WP/SS do we need to worry about kb?

As long as Indomitable Will doesn't get shut off, you'll be immune to Knock attacks, and almost immune to Mez attacks. I say almost, because while I was testing the new difficulty levels during Open Beta, I found what was too high when the Possessed Scientists were able to stack enough Mez on me to drop my toggles. >.<

Some mobs are always vicious even to the mez "immune". Take tsoo henchmen with energy melee. Enough of them hit my buddy on his invuln tank and he gets perma stunned for the rest of the fight. But, for the most part, you should be golden on KB and mez protection against most mobs.

With my build I was looking for regen def recharge and damage boost. The acc bonus just happened to come with it. When I couldn't get exactly what I was looking for I looked for +HP and +recovery. It won't be as uber as a /SR brute could be in terms of staying power, but it also wont have the RNG of doom that can drop them in 2 hits.

is it worth getting fighting pool or leadership for a ss/wp and also if wp has increased stam and health should i pick fitness?

I skipped the Leadership Pool. Rage gives a nice ToHit buff, and Fury gives a nice Damage buff.

As for Fitness, I ALWAYS take it. The more Recovery, the longer you can go. I've played Ex'd down to when I don't have Stamina, and I always chew through my End with the way I play. Essentially, I steamroll. As soon as I attack the first foe in a mob, I don't stop until everything on the map is dead, or I am.

Those are my opinions and playstyle, however. YMMV.

Since WP doesn't have a self heal, what I plan on doing is getting the self heal from the medicine pool and getting tough and weave just so I'm insanely strong. The reason I am getting the self heal is sometimes I find myself wishing for one when I'm taking on a mass amount of enemies. I think it is always worth it to check out the pool powers and not stay so strictly to your power sets. The pools are there for you choose from them and it's a great idea just to check them out and see if it fits your play style. Tough and Weave always are a great choice for any tank/brute and the self heal is a great idea for WP because we don't have one.

Fitness is always a must on any toon especially if you steamroll. I have been playing since 05 and have always kept fitness. The nice thing about wp is the two auto powers fast healing and quick recovery, so fitness isn't needed as much but is still very beneficial. and I strongly suggest getting it because when I have it, I never run low on end and hp really on a WP toon.

I used to run sans fitness till I SKed to a buddy in a massive carnie/matla arc. Respeced into it mid arc and never looked back. Besides being a great place to put IO sets that extra recov helps you bounce back from end drain fast, which is essential in big carnie groups.

And as far as medicine is concerned I would skip it. All the knockdown SS does helps WP find the time needed to regenerate, esspecially when you add in footstomp.

As stated above leadership is made mute by the effects of rage.

Aidself is great if you plan on soloing AV's or doing PvP. But, if you plan on farming I would skip it. Since you can easily survive without it, not to mention its kind of hard to use it in the middle of 17 angry baddies. I take the fighting pool on all of my brutes/tanks. I would also look into Darkest Night for the extra bit of survivability from the -tohit and -dmg. WP can run it 100% of the time with stamina QR and a bit of IO's.

I would recommend learning your own play style for your toon, and make your build around it. By doing it that way you might save yourself a lot of inf by buying the enhancements you want the first time around. And, as you can see all the builds that were on this post were fairly different from one another.

Exactly, I tend to run slightly different then most as I run my guys as purest. I tend not to delve into fighting or get attacks outside of the primary set. I rarely even get patron pools unless I think they will be really handy or they fit my concept.

On the other hand some people will dip into 3 or more pools and really maximize the potential of their brutes/tanks. It's really a matter of preference.

I would generally go for more resist or defense from pools before a self heal for WP, but if you decide to go for aid self anyway, normally an AoE knockdown like footstomp will give you a second to fire it off without interruption. On my old SS/Elec brute I slotted it with an interrupt IO and it worked about 99% of the time after footstomp.

You don't really need Aid Self with proper slotting of Resis/Def. Use those Inspirs if your HP drops. And SC's right, if you do go for Aid Self, FS will have you covered.
