I love the new difficulty settings! <3

did 4/8 on my Fire/Shield. 0/8 was too easy 4/8 I had to use inspirations from time to time. If Billz's chart is anything to go by, looks like I might be sticking to +2s. Looks like a good balance of inf/m plus kill rate (for drops).

Wait, what? I just signed on to test. We can't raise our difficulty above +4? Why do the devs hate us! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

I'm actually being serious. I was thinking of trying to figure out what sort of character it would take to fight as high uplevel as possible. I was thinking +7 might be within grasp for the right combination and a build specifically designed for it. I fought some +7s on Werner while he was leveling, though I think it was before the last of the Regen nerfs. Wah, grumble, whine.

Mind you, I haven't actually TRIED +4 for 8. Might well get myself killed. But I'd really like a game that I could crank up to utterly suicidal if I want.

OK, yeah, +4 x 8 is fun. It's difficult enough that I don't feel funny about popping inspirations, which is good since they fall like rain. Difficult enough to be fun, not so difficult as to stop being fun. Seems about right, at least for Sergei. I haven't tried it with Werner, but he'll probably have a harder time of it.

Makes me want to play a character with some AoE, though. It takes forever for me to plow through a giant purple group one target at a time.

+4x8 is fun! I died on the first group of rikti I jumped into on a Borea mish, then thought "hmm, maybe it won't be a cakewalk" and cleared out that mish, minus the stupid drones. I had to pop yellows to kill them, and didn't have enough yellows to finish all of them. So then I went to PI, and pulled a council radio. It's awesome seeing like 25 council running at me.

And then they all get murdered! I mean, arrested. Good times. It'd be troublesome for me without Shockwave, I think.

Yes, I suppose I could finish leveling up my Claws/Super Reflexes. I hit the soft cap at 36, and my brain went, “finished!” I've barely touched him since. Or maybe I should finish leveling my 44 Spines/Dark. It'll be easy now that I can make my own crowds. So many possibilities.

Spines/Dark would be nice. Claws/Fire. Hell... maybe I'll make a Spine/Fire for nothing but farming scanner missions. Slot for slows to keep 'em in the burn patch maybe?

I enjoy them too but...but... I am a wimp.

I had copied my Level 50 Fire/Fire to test, and after using my second build to play with the new epics, and finding a wonderful color for Plasma Shield..no longer do I look like I am surrounded by a white glo..I decided to try out the new difficulty settings.

I started by doing the Banished Pantheon map in PI. +4 and map set for 8....I saw all these colored masks floating about, and was soooo happy at the sight....happy until I started fighting.

I died.

I died over, and over, and over again.

So I fiddled, and I adjusted, and well, I am probably the wimpest Fire/Fire scrap in Paragon City.

+1 map set to 4 for the Banished Pantheon Map has been so far my best compromise between carnage and safety..can't fight things if I am in the hospital.

I have a fairly good build, I have Weave, I believe in taking my purple vitamins, I don't know why I cannot do +4/8 like every scrapper here.

*Sigh*

Anyways..all you +4/8 scrappers have my deepest admiration. If I were wearing a hat, I would tip it to you all.

I like the idea of taking Tenebrous Tentacles instead.

Tried that back when I had the em/fa brute. Was kind of a pain to get the cone lined up then back in for burn.

I love the new settings. And the fact you can have bosses in the missions at low settings is nice. I'm up to +2/+4players setting with bosses. Only thing giving me headaches right now is Spiders with all the typed attacks and Malta. Man that alot sappers...

I'd suggest a "randomly generated" mission with your favourite group in AE, and use tickets as a measure to track drops

As far as having fun with the new slider, yes, yes I have:

Tickets aren't a good measure, since you get more for a higher-conning enemy. (At least on live you do...please don't tell me they changed it on test.)

There has to be some reasoning behind farmers being happy about -1/x8/no bosses. I wouldn't know for sure since I'm a terrible farmer, but I believe the logic is that you actually make more inf from selling drops than from actually killing stuff.

BP might just be your achilles heel. Some masks and lieutenants have these huge defense debuffs I could see hurting fire armor a lot even with purple insps because of the lack of any defense debuff resistance, on x8 I suppose you're guaranteed to have at least one of these debuffers per spawn.

Hugs. Thank you Nihilii for your input. While they spawn in groups, often a member of group A will run to group B, and all of I sudden I find I am fighting two groups at the same time....that is a lot of Banished Pantheons all at once

I always thought of ChiliCheeseDog Annie, my Fire/Fire as being the squishiest of my scraps, but the most fun...especially now that she hovers just over the bad guys heads and sends down fire upon them.

OH, and Valkii, my Dark/SR makes up for Annie. She is level 46. I pumped her up to +2/8 and took her on a mission in The Land Of The Romans...she did extremely well.

I guess the lesson learned from this is not all toons can go +4/8, and those that can, can't go +4/8 against every enemy type....and this is perfectly fine

And now that I think about it, the accuracy it takes to hit enemies four levels above you boggles my mind .

And, hmm, a few weeks ago, on live server, I got a purple drop from a minion, -1 in level to me...I remember this because he was the last in a group...and in normal play I do seem to get more drops fighting at either my level or -1.

Mayhaps fighting at -1 is nothing to be ashamed of...in some cases at least

Anyways, I am jabbering. Thanks again for the input Nihilli
Lisa.

I agree, I wasn't the biggest fan of it either. I just don't think(pure speculation) that slows will help much either. However, I would love to be wrong. If you do it, let us know how it works out.

Just curious... how are rec/salv drops on solo 8-man missions, and how does it compare to ticket farming on AE? Do you think it will have any chilling effect on AE farming, which is what some people have hoped?

Also, do you think that the diff settings may have any negative impact on teaming, by promoting solo/duo/small teams as opposed to larger?

I'm not a farmer, and would love if regular mission teaming became more popular, but these are the things I am a bit worried about.

Synapse states that no changes to drop rates have been made. A lot of us were seeing very low recipe drop rates across the board. Unsure what has come of Synapse digging further into it.

Will there be a negative impact on teaming? I don't know. I don't team now for the most part. My guess is that people will have a harder time looking for farm teams to join since the farmers won't need pads anymore. For me, I'll finally get to start some real farming.

Your best bet for teaming is the same as it's always been: Create a group for like-minded individuals or find an existing one. It might take some work finding them, but once you do, you're set. Nothing in I-16 will change that.

The gutting of rewards for all-boss and all-lt groups will have more of an impact on AE farming than higher difficulties. At least, it'll impact the massive amount of newb farming, which is the kind that is most visible. I hope.

Oh you mean those big teams that just steamroll through invincible missions like they're nothing? Once we can have +4s those teams might actually spend longer defeating a spawn than moving to the next one, and there will be some risk of defeat, which will force some people out of their "this is so easy I could do it in my sleep" mindset, and they will have to become better team players.

Of course most people won't become better team players, but some will, and that's good for teaming.

I do think it will reduce level 50 farming in AE, since purple drops are by far the most profound source of income for level 50 farmers, and there are no purple drops in AE.

For powerleveling, I imagine boss farming in AE will remain the hot ticket. It'll be less effective than it is presently due to supersidekicking, but it should still be the fastest way to gain xp.

Just remembered the reduced rewards for all-boss groups. That may put an end to boss farming in AE, but I somehow doubt it.

Just ran a few missions on test. Drop rates have been returned to what I would expect them to be. No note from Synapse about any change, but I have to suspect that he did find a problem and it was corrected last patch.

Side note: Safeguard mission on 4/8 diff.... not easy. Especially when that Arcahnos Heavy Blaster (yes, the ones from RV) keeps frying my to a crisp.

I didn't know the bit about the reduced rewards in AE... ever since it turned into what it, I've lost almost all interest in it and havent read the updates. Should definitely curb the amount of farming though, at least somewhat.

What I meant before about "negative impact on teaming" is that I was wondering if people woudl crank up the difficulty settings on missions, but still run solo/duo/smaller teams to maximize rewards, and reducing the demand of making larger teams.

Upon further reflection, though, I think the difficulty settings are probably challenging enough so that larger teams are still desired.
