What are you opinions on a fire/shield scrapper?
Have you seen the potential damage they can do?

Guides are basically an outdated method of transfering information. In order to be complete you'd have to write about 187 guides outlining how different combinations go together to match a large variety of playstyles. Instead, the best thing to do is just come to this forum and ask specific questions. Or join the "Forum Scrappers" global channel and get immediate feedback on specific questions.
I'd highly suggest when asking a question be specific and reference your desired playstyle (teaming, aoe damage, soloing single targets, etc). If you don't say what your playstyle is, it will probably be assumed that you want to be an unkillable slayer of the most difficult targets in the game at level 50 and have an infinate budget. (fire/shield is a good choice for that).

I have a fire/shield at 50 and well IOd.
It's a monster. I can't die. I kill everything that moves. I can stand in a group of 52 bosses and eat a cup cake while they attempt to pound away on me. The tanks quit the last AE boss farm I was on because I was doing their job for them. I accidently hit 250 DPS solo'ing a pylon and I never even tried to build for ST DPS. Fire Sword Circle is amazing. It lacks ONLY a self-heal, but you could fit that in, too.
So my opinion is that it's the most powerful character I've ever built.
You know the thread that says "I think I've created a monster"? Well when I saw that I thoguht the guy was talking about fire/shielder... ;-)
Seriously though, like some had mentioned already. Great single target and great aoe capability. Can't go wrong with this combo.
Guides are great if you have time to read through them. You could just ask questions here and get answers from many different angles.

So far this toon I am rolling is nice. Was end hog until I finally hit 20 last night. Thanks for the info/reassurance guys. This toon ought to be fun to run.

This. It's the strongest Scrapper I have and still the newest. Not even IOed out well yet. It's magnificent.

Took mine to 50, stripped out the SO and some frankenslotting I did with a respec and only bought two IOs for it after. Loved it while levelling it but just dont feel compelled to do anything with it now. It seems to be a scrapper for all occaisions really...... but then I have enough alts to already have a scrapper for all ocaisions, all be it a different one for each.
If you were going to make just one scrapper I'd say make a fire shield. But it doesn't thrill me like some of my others does. I prefer the claws and DM play style for ST and for AoEs I quite like spines, or my Fire/Fire for squishy scrapper madeness

I have a DM/SR scrapper at 50. I loved that dude. He can wreak havoc when he doesn't get hit. But even when he does get his, I have a little added resistance.
My Fire/shield isn't the greatest right now. At the same time, at lvl 20 it's hard to get a good team to merc some villains with. How do you think fire/shield plays in PvP. I haven't really got into PvP much, but I'd like to.

The first million is harder then the 2nd million. The first 10 million is harder then the 2nd 10 million. The first 100 million is harder then the 2nd 100 million. The first billion is harder then the 2nd billion. I don't think it gets any easier after that.

I actually found a little hustle for myself to keep my toons up to date to a degree. I use AE tickets to buy certain items in the at the AE vendor and sell those. I made a decent little stash to keep my toon up to snuff for a while.
That works too. There are a lot of ways to make a lot of influence in this game.

Also check what the difference in price is between the crafted IO and the recipes you have drop, sometimes you can make an extra few million infl for only spending a lil on salvage.
