Hospital for Striga Island
As I died for the ten thousandth time (slight exaggeration) I thought to myself, "Great, back to Talos, Indy, or the base again, then a 5 million mile run (slight exaggeration) back to Striga. Why isn't there a hospital in this zone?"
Well, that's the question. Why isn't there at least a field camp, a la Hollows, in Striga? Better yet, why not have the character rez by stumbling out the door of a graveyard mausoleum (how the heck is that spelled?) as if they've just been force-fed a wakie. Stumbling and drunk and weak. Heck, maybe that could lead to an interesting story arc: Investigating why the teleport beacons for defeated heroes are being re-routed. Who's messing with the system and why? And what repercussions does that have on the heroes? Are they being 'claimed' by some evil forces that puts its mark on them after each rez? If there were a story, maybe the villain at the end of it could confuse heroes to fight for them against their allies. Or simply confuse them so they can then beat them down. A confuse where you can't control your own character's actions would be wonder(fully frustrating?! ) Ahem, too many vampire books (and defeats) recently, perhaps... |
You do realize that Striga is not a part of Paragon City. It's not even in the United States. (Paragon City is in Rhode Island.) The entire place is a criminal haven outside the jurisdiction of Paragon City. It would be more in theme for defeated heroes to awaken in a prison cell and have to break out, than find themselves in a Striga Hospital.

Never surrender! Never give up!
Help keep Paragon City alive with the unofficial City of Heroes Tabletop Role Playing Game!
Two zones come to mind that are topical:
Hollows and Perez.
Both of these it used to be whatever zone you left from was where you wound up if defeated. For many, that would be Atlas Park for these two zones.
Nooo... the trudgery!!!
But then, somewhere along the line, a little cot and IV were set aside near the Atlas Park entrance, and so now if you get defeated, you wind up there. Which is great, except I was *all the way over at Skyway entrance*. Sheesh.
Anyway, things happen, who knows if Striga, Boomtown, or even the vaunted Perez will get a cot?
August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012
Someone once suggested a makeshift hospital in the back of Peeble's tavern. What the name? Something mermaid?
Anyway, that would make sense and be a very nice QoL addition to the zone.
Well, there could be a hidden hospital under the tavern as Weatherby mentioned - are there any established hero organizations that have an interest in keeping the Council contained that could be running it or at least keeping it supplied? The Longbow are preoccupied with Arachnos, I believe, maybe Hero Corps or Wyvern?
I'll cast my vote for a hospital in Peebles' Tavern. She's sort of the guardian of Port Noble, so it would make sense to put one in there. More importantly, though, I want to see a hospital in Striga. We have missions that send us there, so there ought to be one.

A hospital of any sort would be good. But sorting out Stephanie's arc so that the missions aren't in a random order and not (nearly) all Kill Alls would be better.
Although, for those that don't know, if you are in a SG with a hospital room, you can go to base instead of hospital, stock up on stuff you may need and use the normal base exit instead of a base teleporter and it will zone you back to Striga.
The problem is that that requires being in a SG, having a base with a not insignificant investment put into it, and having that specific zone's teleporter beacon currently installed. It's a workaround, but it's not a solution.

As someone else stated, you don't need the Teleport Beacon, because if you use the main Entrance/Exit room, it will send you back to the zone you just left. So, this, along with other options available, is why a base is so important in COH.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need to pay rent for functional items, such as medical reclimators? The mere fact that I have to build my own hospital and then pay rent for it makes this a workaround. I don't deny it works. I deny that it's a substitute for a hospital in the zone when there is no real reason why there shouldn't be one.

Storage Units
Advanced Medical Facilities (so not the basic one)
Worktables
Enhancement Booths
So as long as you don't add any of those rent will be zero.
