hehe - there should be crash course of symbols in LGBT culture ranging from the flags, the pink triangle, polari, the animals of the bear community and the hanky code!

hehe - the version on the BDSM flag also looks vaguely like the three tadpoles symbols of the Budhist group in Rankin's book Apocalypse the musical

If your mouse has greater processing power than your gfx card, the answer is yes.

Yeah, when I saw the word 'triskelion', my first thought was 'quatloos'.

The thread was over as soon as this was said. Unofficial means NOT OFFICIAL. The devs didn't "make" anything. Honestly I don't know why this thread is continuing.

Oh man! Hanky codes! That's a full degree of work there to decipher those! (Hmmmm, methinks I am showing my age here )

I've known about Victory being the unofficial gay server since 2004 when I started. One of the Pride-based SG's helped out a lot with some of the original Hamidon Raids, which brought it to everyone's attention (assuming I'm remembering correctly).

A consequence of this is that I've made a gay friend or two through random teaming and got into the habit of petitioning homophobic language every time I see it in Broadcast. That's right. I'm that guy.

The fact that I know people who are sensitive to language that is pretty ignorant in the first place makes me a bit more sensitive to it than I might otherwise be.

It's hard to say how the situation in the OP actually went down, but I've never had any problems with the GLBT population on Victory. I've got some hilarious stories, but no problems.

It is a game and people need to be mature enough to remember that. Subjects of this nature should not be tolerated, at least, I do not on my teams or teams I am a member of. For starters, if I am the leader I will diplomatically fix the problem or at length go to the extreme and either break up the team, quit, or boot. If I am a member of a team that will not be mature enough to just play the game, I will finish the mission and politely dismiss myself from the group. There is nothing in the game or rules that forces me to accept an untolerable situation or be anything more/less than polite toward people. Do not get the idea I am suggesting Victorian type talk, I am just saying that being rude, talking trashy, being more interested in sex than play and the like are not fun for me and I won't take it long. Besides, my first thought, as a leader of a team is... suppose there is a child on the team! As an adult of 55 years with a grandson, I would like to think there are others out there that think of children first and guard them when observing bad public language. This the probably the biggest reason I got rid of Vent in my SG.

Aren't you paying attention? If this thread weren't still active, where else would people post all these flags?

You mean Recall Friend. All teleport powers (sans Teleport and Teleport Team, which use different animations) have that wonky spastic animation now. This includes Recall Friend, Teleport Foe, Base Teleport (Day Job and Vet versions), Market Teleporters, Pocket D VIP Teleporter, and Mission Teleporter. And it doesn't really look like air humping, since only your arms are really moving.

Not going to say anything on topic as it seems to be discussed to death already and as Mateo pointed out, since we weren't there and we have no chat logs we can only make assumptions based on the OP as to what really happened.

You seriously think kids are offended by swear words? Back in primary school I swore twice as much as I do now.

No kidding. I recently asked my kids (ages 10 and 7 at the time) to tell me all the swear words they knew. They knew all of them, from mf to ah. It was hilarious.

I seriously do think a lot of kids get offended by swear words, especially the primary age ones. Not the high schooler's so much ....

Unrelated to Heroes, (as thats parents jobs/responibilty if they allow young children to play) but the amount of times I am in public with my daughter, and listening to the language of people who can see young children around them, shows that a lot of people wrongly believe children aint offended by swear words.
Or parents that come into the school I work at wearing big bold swear words on thier Tshirts
Or ... wait, lets not get started

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

This thread has become much more entertaining since it got derailed.

And the hanky code? Isn't that only about as useful and common as Morse code these days?

Only thing I can think of is that if anyone ever uses bigotry or hate slurs I and others will tell them that no server welcomes hate but Victory as the unoffical gay server will be very less likely to accept language like that. Other than that I dont know

I'm sorry to hear your friend had such an incident happen when he 1st arrived ingame its sad actually.

People sometimes forget that behaving in the same manner in which you despise others for makes you not the same as the people you despise but even worse for they should know better for being on the recieving end.

Anyways ..

Ive met many gay's ingame and out lol. all of us have on many servers and most are usually treated very well ingame if anything we all laugh n joke n more importantly play as team and work well together.. as a game should be played

However.. I do have some advice for your friend, sooner or later he will be in another situation it might be sexual preferance, religion or politics..

It's better most times to not even explain his situation to anyone not justify his beliefs because it is and will be obvious when people are looking for a debate/arguement to force an opinion onto you.. for his own health/peace of mind try and respectfully say "I'm sorry i need to take care of something walk away" lol

It wasnt your agreement or opinion they wanted or in the future others will want it's the fight they really thrive on.. dont give it to them it actually bothers them more if u dont lol.

Anyways tell your friend there are alot of other servers if he doesnt want to hang there. Toss me a pm hes welcome on Freedom in my SG its small just cpl friends but we have everything we need.

Yes, hanky codes are a thing of the past. For some reason though the hippster set has recently adopted wearing different colored bandannas in their back pockets as a fashion statement....if they only knew

You seriously think everyone is raised with the same morals and beliefs you were?

People have different backgrounds, different belief systems, and come from different cultures. While you don't have to entirely change your own behavior to match what everyone else in the world will find acceptable, being at least aware and sensitive of these difference is important. I swear, say "oh my God, curse up a storm, wear red, show some skin, etc - all things that others may find offensive. I'm certainly not going to radically alter my behavior, but when I'm with people I know are offended by such things, I will tone it down or not do it at all. When I'm in a public place with a lot of children, I avoid swearing as much as possible.

I spent years as a preschool teacher and I sympathize for parents whose child just learned a new curse word and can't wait to shout it out at every passing stranger or blurt it out when grandma comes to call. I learned most of my own curse words from my dad, but his own mother was not impressed when I used them at age 3.

I laugh at a few I see, including the guy I work with. Found out about the hanky code due to an old friend with hobby for finding out information about sex topics.

Back when I was more innocent, he once name a picture I was trying to mention someone showed me in chat based off my shudders and look of revulsion.

It seems he was approached by several someones and was told that Victory server is the Un-Official gay server. Unfortunatly my friend ended up in a bad mix up of opinions and he was told that if he didn't openly accept homosexuality he should find another server.
My question is when did the creators of this game make the server I was on an Un-official gay server? And why are there groups of people telling others that if they are not "like minded", if you will, that they should move onto another server?
Why this sort of behavior is allowed?
I would assume my friend is not the first and nor will be the last in this matter.
It sounds like someone was having a joke at your friend's expense. In the five years that I have been playing the only server designation I have ever heard of is that the Virtue server is the unofficial role-play server. I suppose maybe you could call Freedom the unofficial flagship server since it was used during beta and after launch but I've never heard it referred to in that way.
