Prejudice Server?!?!
Yeah, you should see all of the hippster boys in Williamsburg Brooklyn....emo messed up hair gelled to look like they just got out of bed, very tight skinny black jeans to the point of being able to tell what religion they are and different colored bandannas folded a certain fold hanging out of their back pockets. I don't think they know what it used to mean, but you never know.

That would explain the sudden increase in bandanas available at hot topic.

It is a game and people need to be mature enough to remember that. Subjects of this nature should not be tolerated, at least, I do not on my teams or teams I am a member of. For starters, if I am the leader I will diplomatically fix the problem or at length go to the extreme and either break up the team, quit, or boot. If I am a member of a team that will not be mature enough to just play the game, I will finish the mission and politely dismiss myself from the group. There is nothing in the game or rules that forces me to accept an untolerable situation or be anything more/less than polite toward people. Do not get the idea I am suggesting Victorian type talk, I am just saying that being rude, talking trashy, being more interested in sex than play and the like are not fun for me and I won't take it long. Besides, my first thought, as a leader of a team is... suppose there is a child on the team! As an adult of 55 years with a grandson, I would like to think there are others out there that think of children first and guard them when observing bad public language. This the probably the biggest reason I got rid of Vent in my SG.

If by "subjects of this nature" you mean any reference to sexuality, I think you're betraying your own predjudices. Would you kick someone for mentioning a wife or girlfriend? They're telling you about their sexuality, aren't they?
If, in your mind, "gay" = "hot, hot, sexy talk", you're revealing more about what secretly gets your motor running than you probably want to.
Sounds loke a good message/philosphy to have, the Rainbow flag is more than just a LGBT symbol it is also a symbol for peace, cooperation and family.

It's always been my take on it. As someone who is a target of prejudice I have no room to be prejudiced myself, or I'm just leaving the door open. If someone wants to think a certain way, believe a certain religion or love someone of any gender then more power to them. I reserve judgment for a personal basis in all but the case of Westboro Baptist Church, but that's another story. If I dislike you, it's not because of your color/creed/orientation, it's because I don't like you as a person. Honestly if people would just adhere to the same principle then the world would be a much happier place.

I wish that was the case as well and that the ultra right wing Christian fundamentalists would follow the teachings of their savior and treat others as they would treat you, but that is hoping for too much understanding and tolerance from their end. With that being said, we as a gay community need to also practice what we preach and not only be accepting and tolerant of those that do not accept us for what we are, but of the diversity within our community. There was one time that I was visiting Boston and was in a bar and started to chat up someone and that person said that he only dated white people and that he wasn't a "rice queen". So we can't forget that we need to be tolerant within our own community.

I've spent most of my time on Victory, and found it to be a pretty decent place. Members of prominent LGBT groups like Rainbow Alpha Force and Q Patrol have always been good teammates, not rude or disruptive or impolite.
I skimmed over the thread and just wanted to put in my two cents real quick.
From what the OP said it's entirely possible that what happened went down in a less than hostile manner and his friend just needs to lighten up a bit about "The Gays". Victory is indeed the unofficial gay server, the number of GLBT SGs should tell you that. Q Patrol hosts the annual Q Pride Prom on Victory every year, last year it was an event that turned out so many people we spawned Pocket D 2 and Ghost Widow made a personal appearance along with Lighthouse. Anyway, as I read the first post I take from it that someone could have said to him when he questioned one of the more obvious toons running about (There are a myriad of rainbow costumes and names like Sizequeen and the aforementioned Nova Gina) that someone told him "Yeah, Victory is the unofficial GLBT server, if you're uncomfortable with that then you might want to find another server to play on." I don't consider that trying to force someone off the server or run them out, just a simple statement, like if someone on Virtue was annoyed by RP, they indeed would probably be better off finding another server to play on. Either way, just from the tone and language used in the first post it seems like the OP and friend might be a little ignorant on the subject, like the fact that alot of us really dislike being called "The Gays", it's not a noun, it's a descriptor thank you very much. But that aside it just seems like the reaction you'd get if a couple drunk frat boys stumbled into a gay bar and then very quickly out. Victory is a painfully friendly server. In all my time playing there I've never had a bad encounter with another player, never had anything raunchy in broadcast, and generally just had a blast playing there. If there IS someone (or several someones) being rude and trying to run people off, they are in the minority and the general populace would be just as glad to be rid of them as anyone else. There's a reason people in general call it the GLBT server but most of us members call it the Family Server. We're all about friendship and tolerance. Anywho, just had to get that out of my system. Now what's this about hipsters not knowing about the Hanky Code? Really? |
Victory as Prejudice server? Not in my experience!
www.paragonwiki.com is a great source of information for this game.

This! Being that the OP is a third party account of a conversation that may or may not have happened it should all be taken with a grain of salt. I do want to touch on one thing though, politely telling someone that they have to leave the room (or server in this case) is an act of exclusion regardless of the circumstances. Don't believe me? Try having the people involved in the conversation from the OP switch places.
a) Harrassment is bad - people shouldn't try and chase people out of servers for whatever reason, unofficial community or not
b) Bigitory is bad - attacking someone because of their sexual preferrence, race, gender, choice of chocolate bar should not be condoned at all c) Unofficial communities are neither good or bad as long as they don't lead to a or b d) We are hear to have fun, kick butt and hope I16 is as good as it seems to be |
Go ahead, I'll wait..........

But, as you pointed out, we DON'T know if that's what happened. As someone else pointed out, it might have been a friendly observation.

Like in real life, if someone with hang-ups accidentally walks into a gay hang-out, or someone with a very conservative upbringing accidentally walks into a strip club, or someone who doesn't like smoke accidentally walks into a cigar bar.
In each case, the crowd of people already there are NOT going to change just to make one person less uncomfortable. If that person is truly uncomfortable, because of something about THEMSELVES and they simply can't get over it, then maybe they should just leave.

Sorry, but no. It's not the same at all. There's a complete and total difference between saying "If you are <Fill in the blank>, you should go somewhere else." and "If you hate <Fill in the blank>, you should go somewhere else."
Blame the homosexuals? C'mon now, BayBlast.
Sure, we don't have the chat transcripts, so we don't know how the conversation went, but if the first quote you cited is true, and he was actually told that he should move to another server if he didn't accept homosexuality, that is absolutely no different than someone on Guardian saying, "If you're homosexual, you should go play on Victory." |
Discriminating against what someone is is completely unacceptable. Refusing to accept intolerance is not.
The OPs post totally sounds to me like his friend made some idiot remark like "That's so gay!" and ended up getting told. And deservedly so.
LMAO! I love it!
You all need to come to Champion. We are the unofficial drama server (gay, straight, lesbian, bi, transgender, and whatever). But lately there has been much tranquility, harmony, camaraderie which is really starting to annoy me. (....hmmm maybe I should move a toon to Victory?)

'Gay' used to mean happy and lighthearted. This wouldn't be the first time it's meaning has been altered.

Argghhhh!!!!1! The stupid, it burns.
This is like a Sean Hannity rhetorical trick.
"You say that you're all for tolerance, well then how come you're not tolerant of my stated desire to drag you to death from the back of my pick-up truck, hypocrite?"
Politely asking someone to leave is an act of exclusion? Well, I guess this is true but it's also entirely trivial. Some acts of exclusion are warranted.
