My bird is dead

Sorry for your loss, Z.

Everyone learns about loss and pain sometime. At least your daughter gets to learn about it early from a pet, instead of a relative.

losing pets just sucks. Don't do anything rash to make it worse, however...

I guess I should provide more specifics on it.

I asked my daughter to pull weeds in the back yard. And I had Swetha with me at the time. The bird obviously wanted to be with her, so I told my daughter to keep her while she pulled weeds. After awhile I told my daughter to go to the west side of the house to work. This is where the wall between my property and the neighbor is. At one point my daughter was stooped over with the bird on her back. She stood up and Swetha was either spooked or lost her balance, flapped her wings, and over the wall she went. (Although her wings were clipped, she still managed to get just enough lift.)

The dog was there, and that was pretty much the end of it.

So she feels guilty and that she’s to blame. And I feel guilty because I set the whole scene up. Rationally I know that it’s not the dog’s fault or the neighbor’s fault, but emotionally, well... that’s a different story. (And it doesn’t help that this guy has been nothing but a pain in the *** since he moved in, for reasons too numerous to mention.) So I tell my daughter that she isn’t to blame. And I *try* to tell myself that same thing, but I don’t believe me.
Hugs to your whole family in your hours of mourning. One of the hardest things to accept in these situations is the fact that there was nothing anyone could have done to predict or prevent it.

My sympathies for the loss of a loved family pet. My family's had/have pets almost my whole life, and I know if my cats were to die like that... oh gods...

But to those of you here posting revenge fantasies, guys, stop. Hurting that dog isn't going to do anything but escalate the chance for violence. If there's a grievance against the neighbor, so be it, take the legal route. Hurting the dog isn't bringing the macaw back, and it's gonna make more people angrier and make a cycle of violence keep going.

Sorry to hear about all of this, Zube. Hopefully the road your family is on only gets brighter.

And I agree with Witty.

And besides if he did do all these acts of revenge, think of the example he'd be leading for his daughter. They will mourn their loss together and we, as a community, can only help as best we can with words of condolence and remembrance for our lost and loved pets.

Hey Zubs,

Sorry to hear about your loss, hope you and your daughter will feel better over time, and remember the good parts rather than the bad.

Upsen.
