Try and get a team at 3AM in the morning U.S. time. That is our peak period (evening, our time). Then you will see why this forum is required.

In fact, up until now we have had our own Australian/NZ forums that aren't even on the official boards, so the creation of this forum is more likely to encourage Oceanics to join the CoH "community", rather than the opposite.

This has always been a timezone issue, not a geographic one. Global channel "Australia" has its share of US shift workers, people living in Japan etc.

We're like bad pennies - we always turn up. Which is ironic, because we don't even have pennies as currency.

I remember reading a magazine article written by a mathematician on how to reduce the spare change in America. His proposed plan was to eliminate the penny, and introduce an 18-cent coin.

I thought to myself, yes, that might reduce the spare change in America... if everyone were willing and able to do simple arithmetic at the cash register. But considering we're Americans, what would actually happen is that all prices would be altered so that including tax, it comes out to a multiple of 5. So that nickels/dimes/quarters can be used for change, rather than the (nonexistent) penny or the 18-center that nobody wants to think about. And then the machines that give you change would give you 18-centers anyway, and you'd wind up with 18-cent coins all over your house, because you don't want to deal with them.

I find this a typical opinion in people of a majority group when looking at why a minority group wants its own space.

Awesome! I never figured the Oceanians (sounds like Onions) to be the rich kids. But from these reactions, there's no doubt they're popular.

Here's a Scandinavian perspective on Australia. And New Zealand. Oh, and why not the USA too. Since I know everyone here can take a joke. I'm sure he'll get around to Singapore too, eventually.

And It's nice to see an Oceanic Forum, even though I'm not living in NZ at the moment, it's just nice to see the accent.

LoL, not angry at all... People really shouldn't try reading into emotions for a post... :P Was just providing an "opposing viewpoint," because I hear the "minority" argument a lot. For pretty much everything.

Makes me wonder... If there are so many minorities in the world, what exactly is the "majority?" Is the "majority" defined sort of the same as "The Man?"

By the way, I lived in Europe for 4 years, and it was some of the best years of my life... And it's always been a dream of mine to visit NZ. Additionally, some of my fav people to play with in the game (I'm a "night shift" guy) has been some of the "Oceanic crowd."

Seriously, though, I found the global channel a long time after I started playing and despite a great deal of effort by some (particularly Lili) to be really open and inclusive, I found it hard to break into the 'group'. It didn't help that I'm primarily on Freedom and (some would say) more than a little opnionated/stubborn at times, but it got to the point where I recently deleted the global from my list (after several attempts at 'hi' to be ignored by those saying 'hi' in the channel).

I'm not here to complain about the channel - like a lot of groups, I'm absolutely sure it functions well and serves the participants well.

I agree with Lili, though - this forum is a great idea if the only thing it does is encourage people to team together and have fun as a group. Whilst it may be seen as marginalisation by some (or 'window dressing' by NCsoft/Paragon) I support its creation and think it was long overdue.

I agree, global channels don't create community in of themselves. Without the option of teaming together people don't get to know each other and don't become comfortable on the channel. Not to mention that there's so much going on in the game most people aren't avidly watching all their channels.
