Cashoo's CoX artwork + art requests!
Mate, I wouldn't worry about that person's comments. Believe me, there are a LOT of people lurking about DA who wouldn't know good art if it bit them on the posterior.
I for one think your stuff is fantastic. Sterling work! |
Looks nice
Vexxxa is sooooo good. Love the little detail work on the stomach piece.
A bit late (as usual) but I still want to weigh in on the dA comment thing.
First thing: If you're going to let one, single, not-all-that-negative comment derail your growth as an artist, you're going to have to get off the internet or risk a serious nervous breakdown. You need a thick skin to be able to deflect and absorb the negative comments you'll receive. Someone might give a very blunt critique on your art and suggest several areas in which you could improve. Some people just might not find your style to be to their liking. And there will always be people who try to cut you down for their own sake, either using the Simon Cowell approach or the 'HAHA u suXX0Rz!!!111' method.
As for the particular comment itself, it's not something to sweat. True, sometimes older work is better than new (George Lucas comes to mind) but it's up to you to figure out what direction your growth as an artist is taking you. Some people get stuck in an artistic rut and churn out the same stuff over and over, usually because they've developed a fanbase that demand a constant flow of the same old stuff (R. A. Salvatore and his creation Drizz't are an example) and thus they just sit and stagnate. Trust me, you don't want to be one of those.
Sorry if this is sounding mean, preachy, etc., but seeing how everyone was so quick to shower you in comforting words I figured someone had to play the mean guy.

One of the things I love about CoH and the boards (well, this section is the only one I frequent) is that we're one big happy family
(also, we art addicts must cherish our suppliers no?) Glad you're feeling better and with a clearer head (and making art again!) I'll be honest and say that Vahzy freak me out and I'm not a fan of them. Looking at your W.I.P., I look over it to see points to praise or point out things to improve. I'm drawing a complete blank on this piece. The anatomy is so odd that I feel I can't really comment on it, other than the doc himself. His arms are reaching back a bit far, but then, I think that of the ingame version as well, so well done there! Normally, I'd say that I look forward to seeing how you clean it up and such, and technique wise I am, but subject wise I don't So there you go, an other example of "you can't please everyone every time, nor should you try" |
Yeah, his arms reach back really oddly. I don't like it personally, but that's his design!
Aww, you don't like Dr. Vahzolik?
I just wanted to say thank you for giving the Vahzilok the love they deserve.

I think I have a pretty thick skin! I get negative comments every day, so it's a normal thing. The commentor is someone that has been a past customer (and ex-watcher) of mine, and all she's ever done is try to make me feel worthless as an artist. Once I realized that, I got over it.
The reaction this thread had when I mentioned the comment definitely exploded! I think it made it seem like I was going to die as a result of the comment, or something.
Thanks for the honest comment!
Yikes, didn't know that was the case. Good on ya for not letting it get to you.
I jumped in being blunt because some artists get so much support from their fans/friends they believe the hype, and then a little clique is formed where the rabid fanbase jumps down the throat of anyone who says anything vaguely negative (including constructive criticisms) towards the artist.
I realise that's obviously not the case here, but the idea there was even the slightest chance of that happening here on the CoH art collective made me spring into action. (and if you ever want to see some of these cliques, simply consult Encyclopedia Dramatica's DeviantArt section)
Anyway, I figure I'll just leave this here on the off chance anything tickles your fancy: http://zerry.deviantart.com/gallery/#Character-Profiles

Nah we as a community just generally like to support one another in drawing moar artz!! Well that is my general experience with the fanart forums anyways. It does seem over the top sometimes but it's supportive in that way just the same.
Reading back on it i guess there was some hysteria lol.

I like your work! It seems so vibrant and colourful, it really gives personality to the people you draw.
Vahzilok is one of my favorite villains. His design is the one of the most unique models City of Heroes has to offer, I think, like how can you still see the remains of his original torso stitched into the big one he has now, that was a really nice bit of design there.
I do wonder how he manages to do all the stitching he does with a giant cannon for a hand, though.
Along the lines of mad scientist, I'd like to fickle your tancy with Dr. Nymsham.
Oh WOW!!! This VexXxa is one lucky chick! I am so jealous!! Oh wait! That's me!! Awesome piece, Cashoo! I am very happily surprised and am impressed! I thank you! The colors and details really capture the attention of your thread!

If you have nothing useful to say, you have two choices: Say something useless or stay quiet.
I love your style and want to make a minor point about about the comment on DA you mentioned earlier. all our styles change, take this picture of mine for example. its already outdated for my style, but it shows how things change. Don't get depressed about someone's comments as you are not there to please them. and we all will lose fans, but we also gain them. it comes with the territory.
hope that helped to boost your morale. point is, we like to support artists here. for the fact that we are decent people (I think........) and the fact we will do about anything to get new art to look at
I'm very glad you like it, VexXxa!
I've wondered the same thing about him...
Awesome toon, by the way! Thanks!
From the comic with War Witch and... gah, can't remember his name..

Doing Scootertwo's Lady Lylith next!
Oh...now I want to see this! I wonder if I can get my hands on it somewhere. That's very interesting.

Check out "Undead in the Big City" parts 1 & 2 at the bottom of the page. All the CoH comics are on there in PDF format.
Yeah, the Doc's huge grotesque body is essentially a suit of fleshy power armor used for greeting heroes. Liiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle hard to do complicated surgery or run lab tests when one of your arms is a rocket launcher with a bayonet...

I would like to humbly request that you add Amerikatt to your long queue of artistic requests ... please.
She's a good, heroic kitty, but sometimes has a mischievous twinkle in her amber eyes and a wide, toothy grin. She's most proud of her single, tiny heal, so -- if you *do* take on this job -- perhaps she could have a green glow around her paws, please?
Here are some references:
(I wish that the game would let her have *real* paws! *sigh*)
She has dark blue fur, a purple mask (might be hard to see), purple costume and mini-cape with pink stars, and a 5-pointed pink star as her cape clasp.
If you want to do her as an actual cat, that'd be terrific!
Thanks very much!

Man....you do some awesome work Cashoo. I try not to be greedy with the 'free art', but I can't help posting Normally I'd go for Kai and add to my collection, but seeing what you've done so far? I'd much rather let you loose on Roxy Acetylene People like this outfit, but if you don't there's tons more with details and live action ref
She's a hedonistic rock star with literal firepower and some serious cult of personality going on, and not afraid to go after anything she wants just for the thrill of it
Really like your work, Cashoo. First time ever posting in the Fan creations section here.
Here's my character, Polydeuces.
Funny story (not really), he's a 50 DB/Regen scrapper in the first picture and MA/Shield in the second. I rerolled him because I felt his costume worked better with a shield.
Here's a short description:
An amnesiac Paragon Protector. Crey Corporation uses false memories and brainwashing to control their super powered operatives. Polydeuces is free from such control and does his best to thwart Countess Crey's plans all while wearing the signature Paragon Protector colors to mock them.
Very nice work so far - I love seeing how you're improving and getting better with each piece. I can't help but add Trick Candle to the pool of candidates.
