100 Mil in and getting abit greedier..
Great screenshot! =D
Once you've figured out how to flip salvage, you can flip anything- the same basic rules apply whether you're flipping Ancient Bones or Apocalypse triples.
Generally, the more expensive your stock the slower the pace- it'll take you longer to get your supply, and it'll take longer to sell. But if you do it right that just means more $$$ for less work.
With 100 million in hand you've got some flexibility. I'll make my usual suggestion- poke around for high demand recipes that show 0 for sale.
Put in some bids for a bit above the 'last 5' price.
Wait.
When you've won a couple, re-list them for a LOT more than you paid.
The Buy It Nao crowd will do the rest for you. =)

I buy max-level trendy recipes, craft them, and sell for about 4 million profit (depending on the IO; some are 20 million profit) I'm semiretired. 10-billion-inf burnout.

I'm tempted to -rep Fulmens for doing manual labor to make his millions...

Doctored Wounds. Everyone seems to play that niche, yet it is still profitable. The devs need to fix this. Also, I've had loads of success with Blessing of the Zephyr KB protection, but that's a game of patience to profit in if you don't have enough to bid across 10-15 levels of recipes and/or crafted IOs. When I get those, I tend to see 8-30M profits, depending on which side, level, and time-frame I dealt with.

Like Fulmens I craft and sell mostly level 50 or top-tier set IOs. Sometimes I try to work with the healing IOs (Numina's, Miracle, Doctored Wounds) and sometimes I work with defense IOs (LoTG, Red Fortune) or Resist IOs (Aegis) but frankly I've been making the majority of my money on various damage IOs.
For Melee I'll do mostly Mako's or Crushing Impacts, or maybe Kinetic Combats or Touch of Death (although I find that IOs that cap out below level 50 are not only more scarce but also do not sell as quickly -- I think a lot of players simply never consider buying a level 35 or 40 IO set for their new level 50 character. On the flip side, they sell for a premium.)
For Ranged Damage, Thunderstrikes sell by the ton but only for a couple of million usually. Still, they're dirt cheap to buy and craft. They're like a step up from crafting generic IO's, you can make steady money with them as long as you don't list for too much money. For a lot of them I'll list for about 1.6 million and figure it'll sell for 2 mil or more. I've also been crafting and selling Devestation and Entropic Chaos, although again, the Entropic Chaos are level 35 cap and don't seem to sell as fast.
PBAoE: Scirroco's Dervish are my favorite niche right now. (I probably shouldn't say so, but eh.) Several of them can be had for hundreds of thousands and sell for upwards of 10 million a piece when crafted, simply because the supply of crafted IOs right now is low. Obliteration is another popular set but the recipes seem to sell for millions so I haven't tried crafting those yet. (As a general rule I only buy stuff that I can get for 500,000 or less per recipe.)
For Targeted AoE I buy and craft level 50 Positron's Blasts. I've had good success doing that.
I've also made a ton of money redside buying and crafting Defense IOs. Defense is popular all around these days, not only because of shield sets and Arachnos Soldiers. This is one area where I've blatantly violated my rule about not buying anything that doesn't sell cheaply -- I've bought LoTG: Defense IO recipes for upwards of 22 million a piece and then sold them for as much as 40 million or more after crafting. In general it seems much easier to make money redside though, to me anyway. ^_^
I'm not afraid to buy the lesser parts of a set that sell dirt cheap, because someone will always buy a crafted version for a million or three. You just have to be careful to list something lower than most of the other sellers, especially when there are a lot of them.
More than anything, you need to know what's popular and what isn't. After that it's hard to not make money. I'm not a marketing genius, I don't keep close track of trends or do spreadsheets or anything, and I've still made several billion across 10 or so characters over the last month.

Fox hunting is properly aristocratic. Why shouldn't any other "pursuit of the inedible by the unspeakable" be equally blue-blooded?

Well I can definitely say most of you have probably had items off of me.
I'm an oddity in that I farm BUT I'm also a gambler...everything gets listed for 1 inf apart from the high price uniques and Purples (I may gamble but I'm not stupid). Some you win, some you lose. I don't craft I just flog the recipes.
No doubt some of you (especially any LotG: Defense since I seem to roll those a lot) have nabbed them off me cheap but eh, ya win some, ya lose some...I've still made 100 million inf in the space of one week just by farming the AE and using ticket rolls (one silver, the rest bronze).
You guys do realise that flipping only works if one or two people are doing it right? Now that every man and their dog is doing it any profit you make is lost in the increased price of every damn other bit of salvage you have to buy to make your recipes.

And when a niche gets overcrowded, just find a new one.
There are far more profitable niches than there are interested marketeers....

- Many have already explained the basics of flipping. You just need to move away from the salvage and start looking at recipes. Level 50's are probably the easiest. You just need to know what people want. Damage, healing, and defense are the ones I normally work in.
- The cousin of flipping is the buy recipe-> craft-> sell route. You find recipes with a good difference in sales between the recipe and the crafted IO. I generally look for about a 10 million influence profit and buy recipes in bursts at slightly more than what I think anybody else who might be niche-ing the recipes are doing (Look for non-round numbers like 10,203,455). Then I turn around and sell for a few million influence lower than what I think the going rate is. This will not generate as much profit as it could, but it helps ensure your product moves faster than the other guy's which is the whole point.
- The last method I use is to roll-> craft -> sell route. This method is a little more volatile than the others, but can still earn you influence faster than flipping salvage. I'll find a good map, or make my own, in AE and then farm for tickets. A good lietenant map set on difficulty level 4 (can't wait for the new difficulty settings in I16) means you can mow through it pretty fast and get pretty close to the ticket cap without quite going over. Once you've accumulated a good pile of tickets, go and do some rolls. I like silver 30-34 rolls. It's one of the largest pools, but still gets you some pretty good stuff even on the low end of things and still profitable. I don't throw away the junk. I craft everything.
So there's my list of three easy ways to start generating influence a little faster. Have fun!

Of course, if I paid the "buy it NAO" price for my salvage, instead of the "buy it in the next 24 hours or so" price, my profits would drop a bit. But I'd still make a profit.
Now, if I also bought the recipe at the "buy it NAO" price... and I sold the crafted IO at the "sell it NAO" price... yes, then I would have trouble making any money.

I spent parts of this weekend crafting and selling lvl 50 LoTG +Recharge IO's. That was good times, although I did get stupid and list two too late in the day Sunday to go before the bottom fell out.
Ah well, they'll sell next weekend.
Over the last week or so I have been putting my first real serious effort into playing with the market, mostly in the form of flipping a TON of salvage of a certain kind for tasty profit.
This is good and nice but...slow, very slow. I think I have enough cash at this point to start treading into the big boys game but im not sure how to go about it. Any tips you ebil marketeers?
