What is fun...

Warning: this is probably a vent post...but here it goes.

Dear Paragon/NCsoft, I've been an active player since beta (CoH) and much of this is probably old news but...it seems any time I log in these days this is how my experience goes. Again, not that these are really 'new' concerns but...my word...it really kills the whole thing for me.

It is NOT fun to run around a building for 15+ minutes looking for the last roaming bad guy or person to rescue that's tucked away in some remote corner. What IS fun, is beating the tar out of him in whatever way you choose when you see him. FINDING him, should not be a...correction...THE difficult part of the mission (especially when he's not even there...but I'll leave that one alone).

I feel heroic DEFEATING bad guys....not wandering around the same buildings and caves searching for them.

IF there was a mission that involved a doppleganger/shape shifter that you had to pick out from a crowd...and NOT kill the crowd of innocent people...then FINDING him makes a little sense. IF there was a time based mission...and the person you were rescuing was going to 'bleed out' if you didn't find him in time, then THAT makes a little sense (I'd probably hate that for the same reasons...but at least it would make sense).

MY SUGGESTION:
So....to the part of the post that may serve some value. There is nothing wrong with pointing players in the general direction of the things they are searching for. I'm not looking for a pin-point accurate GPS, just some SIGN of where the last @#%% thing is. From a global standpoint...beyond the small radius hummmmm. Heck, I don't care if it was a temp power item that I had to craft. But the point is....wandering halls = not heroic, getting to your mission objective = heroic.

If that gets me to my mission quicker so I can move on to the next mission and continue to level up my character....sweet. And at the same time it would kill then incredibly game-killing frustration that I've had the last 3 or 4 times I've logged in to try to play.

Thanks,
Todd

I understand your frustration.
My solutions would include:
A) A "Good enough for government work" option. Complete 95%+ of the Defeat All or "Find all the glowies on the outdoor map" and get a mission complete button....with the mission complete bonus reduced to 95%.
OR
B) A "Where did everybody go?" option. The very last spawn starts to nervously chatter amongst themselves, since no one else is checking in on the squad radios.
OR
C) A "Let's get pro-active!" option. The very last spawn decides that since no one else is answering thier radio, THEY are going to go find YOU. AI switches from "Placed, Static" to "Ambush".
OR
D) A "Radar Tracker" Temp power. Similar to other games where foe show up on your HUD, you could find the last spawn on the map.

Those types of mish's annoy the heck out of me as well. I usually end up frustrated and dropping the mission. I love all of BBQ_Pork's suggestions.

Agreed...anything is better than the luck I've been drawing recently.

And I hate using the darn "mark this mission as complete" thing. Somehow it feels like cheating. But yeah, I've had to do that 2 of the last 4 times I've logged on and run missions.

I really like the "proactive" idea.

searching for that single enemy/glowie can sometimes be very annoying. Expecially if your lower than 14 without a travel power. Some maps are just so huge that fidning them is simply a waste of time.

Whining about everything since 2006.

Ammo switching for Dual Pistols was my idea:

I like all of BBQ_Pork's ideas. They'd be handy for tracking down that last little mob that has eluded your destructive powers entirely.

But you know what I would like? I'd like some contacts to actually tell you that the mission you are wandering into IS going to be a Defeat-All.

Take Sister Airila's arc for example. Near enough every mission I took from her had the simple objective to just kill a boss or get a glowie. But the nav had pinned the mission as "Defeat the Cimeroran Guards". At that point I think "Oh, for christ's sake."

or have it as a random one of the suggested solutions so missions have yet more variety

This is why you very rarely see Defeat All missions in newer content. The devs have learned from their mistakes.

And yet there's a defeat all in the new Cimerora missions on the huge fortress map. That mission makes me want to punch someone.

...I forgot what experience means.
