Liked the first as well but I tend to get confused on these "Someone did this and then someone did that and then I colored it" things. I'm not sure who I'm complimenting for what. But that's just me -- I'm easily confused.

Over the weekend I took a webinar with some concept art professionals over compositional principles. As I try to apply some of this information to my own work, I thought I'd redo some of my older pictures for practice. Here's a new thumbnail for an update of a pic from a few years ago: http://battlewraith.deviantart.com/a...nail-133047384

One approach usually taken by the conceptartists is to do really small thumbnails. If you can convey the idea behind the piece in the thumbnail, the composition is good. Then sometimes they blow the thumbnail up and paint directly over it. That's more or less the plan for this piece.

Here's a value study of the composition. The idea is to get everything to read in a small thumbnail before I go crazy rendering everything out. I'll probably do a color study as well before blowing this up and painting over it.

Why is there so much awesomeness on 'Screenshot and Fan Creation' forum?

I assumed it was because the Awesome Fairy flew around, gathered up the paintbrushes around here and graffiti'ed the word "awesome!" on every exposed surface she could find.

There's video footage of this event actually happening, but her glitter dust made the film stock all grainy and very hard to make out. It mostly looks like a staticy background, but there's occasionally a brighter flash as she zips by in front of where the camera was placed. Honest. ...The FBI took my copy, though, so you can't see it.

Here's a color study. I'll probably blow it up to maybe 11 x 17 and go with this color scheme.
