Melee/Ranged Hybrid Archetype?
Blasters are ranged and melee. You can then take pool powers to flesh out the melee if you really need to.
The problem with mixing certain powersets together - as evidenced by the AE and how people create their npc's - is they are either WAY overpowered, or WAY gimped. Player characters don't need to be either one of those.
Corruptors and Blasters have pretty much all-offense all the time. Melee and ranged.

The Blaster-Dominator similarity stands though (as I've always thought). They've both got controls, ranged, and melee damage powers. Blasters just have more emphasis on the ranged damage and Dominators just have more emphasis on the controls (though they're still highly respectable damage dealers).
This sounds really unneccessary to me. Blasters (and doms) already have the mix of range and melee that you're looking for. And to be quite honest, most of my blasters already have more attacks than they can use on a regular basis, so taking away their mitigation and giving them more attacks seems like an overall nerf more than anything.

AR/bow as primairy, katana/dualblade as secondairy.
The only non-elemental (i say psi is elemental) is /dev, but still imho is gimped (no BU, situation based damage etc).

Let's not forget VEATs. Night Widows, Huntsmen and Crabs not only have melee and range, but you get defense and hide to boot.

And PBs as well they have ranged and melee powers, in fact i am really enjoying mine atm
Yes blaster is ranged/melee, but its not bad idea for more scrapperlike lot of melee and littlebit ranged too. Perhaps some kind of throwing weapons would look cool. If secondary pool is ranged instead of self defence, it could be littlebit problematic but nothing too difficult, I think.

An idea I'd like to see come to fruition. An archetype whose primary power sets are melee and secondary power sets are ranged (or vice versa).
Now I realise that it is possible to mimic this setup with certain archetypes it doesn't quite do it justice in which I'm referring to here.
For example:
Super Strength / Energy Blast
Ice Melee / Ice Blast
Broadsword / Electrical Blast
I also realise that while this archetype could potential be powerful on the offensive, gameplay would be balanced out with the lack of defense.
What are your thoughts?
