So, no love for bases in i15?

Hey devs, did you forget bases again?
- No mention in the training room patch notes of any improvements to bases.
- no mention in the early publicity stuff for Going Rogue of any changes to bases.
Sounds like we're going to have to wait until Christmas(?) for any chance of seeing any base improvements.
I thought we might see something, especially with the accidental release of the Warehouse base room. I thought that indicated "the way things were going" but hey ho
[/ QUOTE ]i think you find we had it, some where in i13 i think.... there was something for base but not what people wanted as in more base stuff and other wanted items
Don't worry there was meant to be a issue ages ago based around bases. We'll get something. Remember there's a dev who works primarily on bases.

Wait - what warehouse base room? I didn't see anything about that?

[/ QUOTE ]It appeared on certain people's base editing interface. IIRC it was a 4x4 room with the capacity of 24 storage items which as you know is 6 more than is currently allowed on any plot size. It was a bug of some sort but the fact it was there implied it is or will be used at some point.
EDIT - Found the original thread (and it was 25 storage items).

re the warehouse type room, yep, i saw it too, briefly, on my base edit menu's. hopefully it a sign of more goodness to come base wise, and hopefully they'll switch base raiding back on too!
I would go so far as to start petition to get the full developers' level design kit for base editing.
If not for full room/ terrain editing, at least all placeables emitters and light sources should be available.
Fog layer should be editable as well.
Level design in CoX is just no fun when you're used to far superior toolkits from other applications.
As an immidiate and consequent follow-up at least have doorways a normal room behavior as in that we can have floor and ceiling trims and styles, lighting and placeable objects.
Bases will never be raidable again after they dropped the blocking/pathing rules.
Which most certainly rules out a comeback of CoP trail as well, unless they make it a non-PvP requirement.

They did say originally that when they re-enabled base raids the restriction on objects and pathing would come back too, but only for those people who wanted to do base raids.
IMO what the devs should do is look at those most impressive bases that use things like safes and damper fields and such like to see what we do with objects and add/change objects to make the whole process easier and more fun. Which in turn will stimulate the creative juices in many players.
I also think adding an account level base, housing if you will, using Inf for currency rather than prestige should be looked at. Then even those of us who cannot edit their base due to not being able to edit their SGs base get to use a great system.
CoH is almost defined by the fact you can do so much creativity within the game. Bases are just another part of that IMO.
IMO adding a second floor to bases would increase the creativity and help inspire people

I second that idea.
Using the height segments of a room square individually and it could almost work like this.
What I mean is fill a room square with e.g. the 2 floor segments and the middle block but not the 2 ceiling blocks and we get a very low ceiling room using the low ceiling for the floor.
Not sure if this was possible with the old magic doorways trick that disabled the pathing rule and let allow us to have multiple adjacent doorways.

I take back what I said then.

It would also help greatly to add just a simple function that lets us raise/lower objects like for example SHIFT + left mouse.
Locking items in place to prevent them from being moved/rotated/deleted by accident would also help.
This would be my idea to make the whole process easier and more fun.

Yes, many players are starting a private SG just for the same reason (or to have a safe personal storage) which in turn excludes some or all of their toons from a real SG.
A decoration only housing system would be great for RPers as well.

This ^^
This is the main reason i started all my sg's, as a previous super group i had been with had had trouble with members stealing stuff so it was the only way to not have to worry about this. Then i discovered how much fun base building was (and how difficult earning enough prestige could be) and now its impossible for me to create a toon for anyone elses sg as i need all the prestige for my own.
If there was a smaller scale non sg related housing/customisable space that also could be used for storage for the whole account it would address a few current play bottlenecks in one fell swoop.
I would suggest making a seperate set of content for a personal housing area so as not to simply duplicate bases in look and feel. Each alt could have its own personal space, but with certain storage objects that could be used account wide, and maybe some that were not account wide but only single toon specific. They could still enforce the "no trade" of villains and heroes by limiting storage in the same way. For instance, my demon mastermind places his hard earned inf/enhancement into the global storage vault in his own personal little pocket dimension of roaring flames or just a simple apartment. When i log onto my hero scrapper and look at my global storage container in my personal fortified bunker I only see items placed by my other hero alts, so i wouldn't be able to access the villain placed storage, unless I was logged in with a villain too.
Now i appreciate that the devs may want sg bases to be the only way to get certain functionality like storage and teleporters, so as to drive players to form sg's and team in the first place, maybe. But i still think that a personal toon level living space with account wide storage would boost the game, and solve a number of current problems all at the same time.
1/. players wouldn't have to create sg's just to have a safe storage area, along with the slow grind in developing a respectable base.
2/. if account wide storage/banking was possible players wouldn't have to depend on other players just to swap stuff from one toon to another, there really is no justification for that to be a necessity in game, its daft. i've heard it all before that inf is not money its influence, but i think thats basicly been shredded as an idea in game as soon as you could transfer it from one player to another, never mind the fact that CoX does actually have an economy now (along with a hero side store and villain side Black Market), using inf/influence, so whether its gold or influence, its now money. Lets give up the ghost on the original concept of influence, its a nice idea, but its not backed up in any way in game. Maybe if the devs wanted to enforce the "it's influence not money" thinking of the early game they should have created politically themed ways of exchanging goods rather market trader themed?
3/. A personal living space would allow a little (maybe lots) more game immersion as players could flesh out another detail in their characters backdrop/background. so long as it could accept visitors, players could show off their living spaces in the same way we currently show off a costume or base we're proud of. currently the only way to do this is via an sg, and the base concept (arcane or tech, factory or sewer etc...) may not be a good logical fit for all your individual toon concepts. Currently the only way to scratch the "itch" of wanting to create a toon related area is to create an sg with a theme around your chosen toon and then make every other toon you have a member of it (so as to earn the needed prestige), even if some of your other alts dont thematically fit together. its too "all or nothing" for some players creativity.
i know i'm probably going to get shot down in flames by dev fanboi's for daring to suggest that maybe the devs should do something they "have no reason to do/obviously dont want to do because it violates <<insert high minded principle here>>".... but here goes...
Hmmm... just a thought, this whole post should probably go in the Suggestions section.
I'd also throw in the suggestion for additional entrances for secure bases...
1. Zone Specific Doorway
Side: Both
Type: Entrance/Exit
A fixed door on the map, active entrance unless otherwise active for missions.
A doorway option appears for the Entrance Room during editing, with doors such as:
Cave Doors (Back of Lifting/Do Not Enter doors.),
Elevator/Lift Doors,
Building/Warehouse Doors,
Etc...
2. Hangar Room
Side: Both
Type: Exit
Open/Closed roof option, Open roof acts as exit to last zone like normal entrance portal does...
Veteran flying vehicles placed here would have their doors as transport to certain missions/zones...
3. PTA Monorail Room
Side: Heroes
Type: Entrance/Exit
Restrictions: Edge of Plot
Green/Yellow line options, Must connect to outer edge of base plot.
4. Submarine Bay
Side: Villains
Type: Entrance/Exit
Sub's hatch is a doorway to certain missions/zones...
5. Ferry Terminal
Side: Both
Type: Entrance/Exit
Restrictions: Edge of Plot
Possible additional restriction: Zone Specific Doorway
A Zone Specific Doorway if placed must lead to a zone containing a ferry terminal.
Or the Ferry Terminal room can not be placed in a base.
6. Etc...
/signed from me Coolio
Don't care about the external door (eg the door in the zone) but I wish you could set the door in the base to be more thematically correct. Sewer Grate for sewer themed bases, mystic portal for magic... etc.
Larger/Smaller entrance rooms would be nice too.
Love both ideas

Bases/Personal spaces make the player able to express themselves and tell the story of their characters.
So i think the devs should read up on this
Glad you liked my suggestions (The second quote.)
I love to eb able to build my own private Lab/lair, even if there was a size restriction (ie smaller than SG bases) it could include one tp that links to the world portals and to your SG base (if you have one). Perhaps a TP in the SG base which allows you to tp to any members lair/private base if it's open to SG members...
I know I'd enjoy creating a base per character and I know I'd use he invention system a lot more to craft items for that base.
Think of the possibilities!
