So on the basis americans spell colour without a U, honour without a U, valour without a U, you're claiming american-english is better for people to express themselves? Wow that's stupid.

We invented the language so we decide how to spell things. We're the ENGLISH people. And just because your language is more recent than ours, (not) isn't anymore reason for people to use it.

And america isn't cultured, you were owned by the British and then the only thing you have going for you now is war, movies, and burgers, and being the fattest country on the planet.

If you want a cultured society, i suggest you study China, which has thousands of years of it.

Also, there is no 'correct' version of english, apart from ENGLISH english. Americans can claim what they want, it won't change anything.

If you want to call a language your own, and a correct version of it, i suggest you invent your own language, because most of us being european, you're not gonna win this one, so just leave it =)

Oh, and to TrueMetal, Britain's queen still controls Australia, so your version of english won't take precedence over ours either.

[/ QUOTE ]

While I agree with a lot of your argument, some what you said was bordering on racism, which just isn't acceptable.

Moving onto a lighter note, most of the argument however lost it's oomph when you claimed that the Queen controlled Australia when she doesn't even in control England

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe it lost oomph because you don't understand. While Australia and Canada belong to the British commonwealth and are independant nations, the queen of Britain is still the so called 'head of state' or highest authority there.

And just because she doesn't make political decisions (i.e, prime minister) doesn't mean she has no control.

Also, i wasn't being racist in any way, your perception is slightly askew. And like i have always said before, free speech is a no-holds-barred arena, so be prepared to defend yourself if you ever enter it.

I do find it amusing that we are arguing the correct English usage of a word that is Italian in origin...

[/ QUOTE ]

In my experience, Americans just want to grab everything and claim they did it first or best.

I say let them have their little moment/toy/words/whatever shiny thing that takes their interest while the rest of the world laughs at them.

Granted of course theres the individual exception as always.

I learned the hard way that this is actually an unwinnable argument even to the point of violence... Last year when i was in Mexico I got into a scrap with a (I called him a yank but no he corrected me as he prefers redneck... Go figure )) over this very argument. I don't remember the word(s) and i'm certainly not proud of it. However it turns out he thought I was insulting America itslef and not just the mutated English that they use. I found this out afterwards otherwise I probably could have explained my point a little better and a lot slower (None too bright this chap) and avoided a fight. Apparantly very patriotic these lot.

Hence my "just ignore them, they don't know any better approach."

When I hear 'Pants' I think of toddlers underwear. Step AWAY from Her Majesty's English GG.

[/ QUOTE ]
Mmm. Somehow, I don't think Her Majesty uses the word 'pants' so much.

Frankly, this is one of those words where the American usage makes more sense than ours. 'Pants' is a shortened form of 'pantaloons', using it to mean 'trousers' is fine, perfectly logical. But shortening 'underpants' to just 'pants' is nonsense if you think about it - 'pants' means 'underpants', so by expansion, it means 'underunderunderunderunderunderunder...pants'. Madness.

Ah, but it's possible that the English use of pants comes from pantalets, long frilly lady's draws.

However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator

To try and stear this thread back to costume pieces: Did anyone else notice the long awaited "tights sleek" option for gloves and boots on Training Room?

And to stear it off track again and keep with the main theme of this thread, the word "pants" is used in the costume creator for the game.

And personally all the people that spell Arctic as "artic" bothers me more

Evolution takes place by following the principle of "survival of the fittest".

Until the majority of your country can outrun a (Beef)Burger, I think we can all agree that your average American isn't going to win any fitness tests.

Therefore they lose by default. We don't even have to go into the whole "The only culture America has is the sort you find growing in Petri dishes" argument.

Terribly sorry old bean...

Should I ever choose to don 'The Office Belt' I will most certainly install it with a Babel fish so I can understand the utter pants you folks are going on about.

Anyway, back on topic

I am glad this costume part is back, it would be alot better if you could use it on its own, other than with the trenchcoat.

You don't need a trenchcoat to wear the belt. What made you think you did?

Because when the office belt first came out, I could only make it appear, when I first selected the trenchcoat.
