Death in Skyway City
Jeanne's mouth hung open in astonishment as she heard the police officer's order. Arrest them?! After all the trouble they'd went through? She frowned, then sheathed her blades and walked up to the officer. "Beg your pardon, but why are we arrested again? If it wasn't for us, who knows what that psychotic gunwoman and her lackeys would've done to Paragon?"
"Pistol," was all Vix managed, before sitting down hard, folding her legs into a sort of meditation pose. She ached. Godsdamn, that b*tch had been tough.
"And, Lieutenant, I'm not going anywhere near Aeon's screwed up 'experiment'. I'm not going anywhere, so maybe you could make sure the civilians are alright first? Please?"

"Sir?" called an approaching officer, holding tightly to a cellphone. "A few of the on-lookers managed to capture the fight on camera. It's confirmed that Pistol was indeed here, but much of the property damage was caused by this one here" he reported, pointing at Vix. "She's some kinda psychic."
"Hear that furball?" Hicks provoked. "We got incriminating evidence of you smashing up the place. I don't care what the situation was, you put the lives of these civilians at risk, and for that I'm gonna make you pay. If you're lucky, you'll get hard community service. Now go on, get in the car or I'll have to slap some cuffs on ya. And you, Edward Scissorhands, got a license for those weapons?"
"I call on charges of Prejudice!" Vix snapped, glaring at Hicks from where she sat. "First off, lieutenant, I did what I could to make sure that civilians were out of the area before going further. Second, the life of the girl here was in trouble, hence the 'Nuke' use. Thirdly, why are we here, with you picking on me when you clearly just want to throw me in a cell for being a psychic, when we should be after that b*tch with the gang? If she's from the Rogue Isles, she's the one who needs to be in a cell!"
Vix flicked a strand of hair back into position, before managing to raise herself to a crouch.
"Two more point, by the way. First off, my job is at Chiron Cenre in Atlas Park, Lieutenant. I'm a doctor. If you want to lock me up when I need to get back there for a night shift, you can explain that to Dr Mansfield. And second, do you think for one instant that I enjoy being this way? So, stop calling me goddamned, f***ing furball!"
It had been a long day. This guy called himself a cop? Vix snarled in the privacy of her own head. She spent her time dealing with everyday illnesses, sever illnesses, major injuries, near-dead casualties and the sort of carnage that others only saw in the Rikti Warzone...and this guy was trying to arrest her. Straight out of a damn comic book, this was...

"First of all, it's Jeanne Beauvillon...Not Johnny Depp. Although he -is- gorgeous." Jeanne grinned faintly, then frowned. "Secondly, the good lady here did save my life when this Pistol lady's thugs surrounded me." She smiled gratefully at Vix before continuing. "So I think you should show her some more respect. At least she -does- have a sense of punctuality others here lack." She threw a stern look at the policemen.
"And yes, I am a qualified instructor in the art of swordfighting, I have my licenses for that, the swordwielding in public, and crime-fighting right here." She patted the insides of her elegant coat, then reached into one of its pockets and fished out a bundle of passes and licenses. She searched through them, drawing out the ones needed and handing them to Hicks.
"You're lecturing us Hicks?" says Lab Bunny, touching down with her communications headset still attached, a huge array of various aerials, wires and a small LCD that fits over the eye. She pulls it off and it curls up into a compact ball which she then drops into her pocket.
Hands on her hips, Lab Bunny sounds just a bit huffy, "If the police force wasn't so ineffectual at doing the job we taxpayers PAY them to do, then we wouldn't have to spend our free time also helping you out. If you'd like to handle the mass murdering psychic by yourself you only have to ask."
Shaking her head, Lab Bunny sighs pulling out a small hand held device with a fork like prong on the front and a screen built in. Sweeping for heat signatures and engine noises that matched the one Pistol had she continues on "Of course that's not really an option. We leave it with you it'll simply never be dealt with, just another unresolved case. You're very good at filing if nothing else"
Not picking anything up immediately, the Bunny takes out a small flare gun like pistol and fires it into the air, the projectile whizzing off with a hum out over the city, expanding her search range for the escaping Villain as it relayed sounds and pictures to her scanner, "So if you're quite done trying to burn a bridge you badly need, have you actually got anything useful to tell us, or are you just going to waste our time? We've got two murderers to catch now and I don't see you being very helpful in that regard so far"
Known for their cheerfulness, even a Lab Bunny has their limits. Disrespect was never something they took very well, especially to their qualifications to do their job.
"Lieutenant" called the soft voice of Rachel Hunter. She approached the police officer calmly and reached out an arm to guide him aside for a private talk. "You can't arrest these girls, you just can't" she whispered. "They risked thier lives trying to protect those of others, and with Pistol and her men fleeing, I'd say they did a good job of it. With all due respect officer Hicks, these girls have been true heroes today."
As the others stood their ground as well against the Lieutenant, Vix joined in the general search attempt. She shut her eyes, sat back on her haunches, and let her empathic aura spread, filtering down specifically to find a level of anger, arrogance and other darker emotions that, hopefully, would be narrowed down further. It was no exact science, but as she had said, she'd be damned if she didn't try.

Lieutenant Hicks gave a look of understanding and admitted defeat. Reluctantly, he signalled his supporting officers to release the girls and made his way to his vehicle. "Smithers" he called. "Cordon off the area and have a clean up crew down here asap. I'll be at the station if you need me."
"Looks like the heroes are going after Pistol, should we give them a hand?" he asked, but the lieutenant laughed it off. "What good is chasing her gonna do? Another fight? More property damage? Keep an eye on them in case they step outta line, we'll be the first to nab them. I'm outta here."
Blanching at Hicks exit, the Lab Bunny rubs her temple with a puzzled look on her face "What good would it do? Didn't realise the Police have reached the point of not even trying to catch criminals."
Tapping the forked antenna when it stops spinning to get it going again, Lab Bunny talks off handily "Anyone picking up anything? That all seemed a little random. They all have a motive for hauling off on you Vix or do you think there's some psychic interference making everyone crabby pants today?"
Vix looked up with a sigh.
"I think the LT there just has a thing about psychics. I also got a sense of his aura. If you dumped into, say, Starsky and Hutch, or one of those old cop shows, he wouldn't be out of place...Being a cop isnt a job, its a vocation. Like being a doctor, or teacher. You don't do it unless you're in it till the end. I think he got the wrong placement..."
She sighed, shutting her eyes again and actively hunting down any trace of a signature that felt like the one that Pistol had emenated when they were in combat. She hoped it would be something to go on. The thought of that...woman, out and about in the City...

"Sometimes, you can't blame the cops for not trying" said Rachel, addressing the other heroes. "They're scared ******** facing things they can't understand, on a daily basis. Plus, they're mostly in it for the money, aren't they? That lieutenant Hicks is a good example of somebody just trying to survive long enough for his next paycheck. As for you guys, you're commited, that's what makes you heroes. Now if you want to find Pistol, I think I know where to look, she lives in Nerva Archipelago. Are you sure you want to go after her? Looks like she's using magic now, the way she teleported out of your psychic nuke."
"Magic only works so long, before it blows up in your face, or a demon nabs whats left of your sould," Vix muttured, standing and stretching. "Just look at the Circle, and how mauled they end up...I say let's give Justice a road trip to some unfamiliar territory."

Jeanne nodded in agreement with Vix. "Always happy to see new places. Although the Rogue Isles aren't known for their classiness. Ah well. I suggest we leave as soon as we can, perhaps we could catch Pistol by surprise."
Calling in the drone, Bunny lets it curl up on her palm before loading it back into the delivery gun and returning that to one of her many pockets.
"She's our only lead for now, however let's not forget she's just a lackey in all this. The real names behind it all we're going to have to get out of her once we take her down. She's too prideful to break under questioning and truth serums are tricky on people like her, it might work or it might cause cardiac arrest. I guess that'll be your part Vix, can you pull some answers out of her head or should I bring a batch of MK-Ultra?"
Vix smacked her fist into the palm of her hand. Normally, the Chiron Doc was a quiet sort of person. Sure, she shouted in a fight, but sometimes you had to to be heard, especially if lives were on the line.
But she had two designations on her Hero Liscence. Defender/Blaster Class. And, right now, she felt like getting her defense in first, in a rather more aggressive way.
"Let's go pay the b*tch a visit..."

"Well then, let's go get us some transport to the Rogues", Jeanne said, keeping a neutral expression and trying not to think too deeply on the memories triggered by Bunny's mentioning of "breaking under questioning".
Now knowing there were a couple of psychics among them, she didn't quite feel like them picking up any thoughts on the little questioning "session" she had arranged with the Hellions responsible for taking her sister from her. Gruesome as it ended up, she knew it'd left her with a hard edge that may come in handy should Pistol prove uncooperative. But no, it was nothing she should share with the rest just yet.
"I can fly at least one person with me to the port, might have to take a taxi otherwise. We should meet by the ferry in say, fifteen minutes?" asked Rachel. "I'm Damsel by the way, fairly new but Priest shows me around."
"Could do that, or I can hijack an emergency teleport from the medical system and have us dumped at the bays within spitting distance of it." says Lab Bunny, pulling a small PDA with a strange atenna tied to the side of it with tape. Turning it on, the end makes a low sonic 'Whum whum whum' noise and the air starts to fill with the tang of Ozone.
Looking around nervously, Lab Bunny gives everyone a wave "Um, little closer please. Being on the edge of the spatial tunnel has strange effects, strange... rather disconcerting effects. Within ten meters will be fine."
Whether people come or not, thirty seconds later the ground for ten feet around Lab Bunny sparks and small objects rise into the air, before with a loud snap the teleport catches and they're gone, reappearing at the med bays two streets from the port.
Rachel looks around and noticed they were now in Independence Port. "I was kinda hoping to stop for a sandwich but this is cool. Reckon they got Starbucks on the ferry?" she joked, making her way to the boats.
Giggling Lab Bunny, cleans her glasses and pushes them back on as she follows. Her sports bag is gone after the jump and a small breathing mask is hung on a leather strap around her neck "Grabbed a few things mid stream. Would worry about carrying around this sort of thing, but really if we're going to the isles being caught would be the least of my troubles. So what ship have you got for us?"
((Text gone!))
((Looks like everything written after Globey's intrusion has been wiped. I'm considering closing this chapter here and continuing it on an entirely new book called Attack on Thugs Mansion, probably starting the following day, with the girls returning to the Rogue Isles after being rejected the previous day. They will likely be escorted by Longbow and accompanied by any other heroes/characters who wants to join in. Thoughts? Objections?))
(( Sounds good to me!))
"This day couldn't possibly get any worse Lieutenant" said the officer, busy manning the wheel of his high-speed police cruiser, his sirens blairing so loud he had had to wear his ear defenders. "Hundred dead bodies fetched out the river only to be possessed by demons at the morgue. Priest done his creepy excorcism thing, but now we got a high profile battle slap bang in the middle of the town. I mean can you believe this sh*t? A superpowered battle on top of everything. And on a fuc*ing Monday? Why, for God's sake why is it always on a Monday?"
"Tell you what Smithers" replied Hicks, helping himself to some well sugared donuts. "This city's going to hell. Signs are all around us. I gave up hope when all those goddamned supes abandoned the little people and took to that godforsaken tower." Smithers gave a knowing look, "talking about them AE buildings boss?" he asked.
"You damn right I am" Hicks replied, "that company's run by Dr Aoen, fuc*ing lunatic scientist from the Rogue Isles, used to work for them terrorist, the Arachnos. He goes and builds some half-bugged virtual reality system and our so-called heroes mindlessly flock to him for easy entertainment. They so hooked up on it now, like pot monkeys. Steel-armoured, spandex-clad, leotard wearing, ballet-dancing egotistical junkies who don't wanna get their hands dirty no more. Who don't really wanna be down here on the streets, dealing with the real thing. Smithers, we cops are the real heroes now, screw the capes." Just then, the police cars screeched to a halt. The doors flung open and the men in blue filed out, guns drawn and in position. Lieutenant Hicks exited last.
****
I exited last. Always good to make a show of arriving, makes my presence known. I assessed the situation outside the diner. An uncostumed metahuman was healing the injured civilians, safeguarding them from the fight. Closer to the diner, I could make out two figures, both female. One was standing near a pair of swords, the other, who I recognised from earlier on this morning was berely holding herself up, the ground beneath her was smashed up like a bomb had gone off. But there weren't a rotten villain in sight. What had happened here, who was responsible, where were they now and why in God's holy name was the sidewalk littered with the burnt limbs of the Lost? So many questions, but where to begin? I walked up the the red-haired and sent her my seering look of inqusition. "Hey furball, what the hell did you do to this place?! This aint no god damn MMORPG like your AE towers you know. Think you can fly in, bust the place up and escape? This aint no virtual reality mumbo-jumbo lady. Put it this way, you got a lot of explaining to do, and I'd like to hear it over at the station." He turned to his supporting officer and nodded to the girls. "Arrest them! All of 'em! I'm sick of this sh*t."
