Death in Skyway City

With a distrustful glance at the mutated psychic, Jeanne sheathed her rapiers. "Toothpicks, hmph!" She muttered something incoherent, then turned to Vix, her look turning more serious. "This must be pretty serious if you and them are working together." She pondered briefly whether she'd offer help or not, when she noticed the red-haired odd-eared woman's clutching her temple. Clearly she was worse for wear than she seemed. And with a psychotic killer running rampant...

"Hey, well, if there's really some crazy ******* on the loose, I think I ought to come with you folks. Strength in numbers and such. So yeah, where are we going?"

The lumbering Aberrant Rector mutate pointed to a ladder down the tunnel which lead to a manhole to the streets. "The killer's scent is fading, we must hurry" he warned, all six of his brothers jogging ahead. He turned a stern look to the small band of heroes. "Follow us if you have to, just don't get in the way of what we must and will eventually do. We are leaving now."

Vix nodded to Jeanne, then did the same to the Rector.
"Just lead on. If that headcase tries to kill anyone else, then, frankly, you're more than welcome to do whatever. At least normal thugs leave people in hospital, not a morgue..." she added, with the voice of one who had seen more than her fair share of both.

Jeanne nodded curtly, following the Rector's lead, every so often glancing at the other heroes beside her, a strange sense of excitement filling her. This was what she signed up for, this was why she got herself a hero's license! Patrolling the streets was one thing, but stopping some master villain from terrorizing the city's psychics? Yeah, that was the -real- deal.

The only thing she really did regret was the sewer's effects on her rather expensive coat. It'd take a lot of washings before she'd get the stench out of it. She let out a soft sigh and shook her head. Heroics first, cleaning up later.

"Well I just heard on the police radios that the morgues storing the psychic corpses are under attack" said Pious, looking around worridly. "According to my dream, the Lost will soon be assaulting the dinner the other side of town. Why don't you go on down there and try and stop 'em. Keep collateral damage to the minimum. I will support the police down at the morgues, that alright babe?"

*****

Outside the dinner, a huge explosion in the middle of the street was attracting a lot of attention. A giant mutated leader of the Lost climbed out, followed by a train of other gun-wielding homeless. Their presence sent the on-lookers into a state of panic, making them run around in all directions. "Surround the premises!" bellowed the Abberant Rector. "Assume positions, there will be no escape for this killer!"

Suddenly, out of the restaurant windows came a storm of gunfire, blasting out wave after wave of armour-piercing bullets and explosive clips which sprayed towards the line of Lost mutates. One after the other, they were blown off thier feet, onto thier backs, pools of blood leaking back down the drain, into the sewers.

"Sure thing preacher man" replied Rachel. "You be careful now, okay?" she added, taking to the skies and heading towards the dinner across town. "Pious!" she bellowed down. "Call me, let me know what you find!"

I can't believe I'm doing this, I can't beleive I'm doing this...

The thought buzzed round and round Vixes head, even as she let her empathy and psionics flow. Wounds from bullets knitted back up, lost blood was restored within seconds, and a general sense of purpose and clarity was in the air.
Empathy...for the good of the city...never thought I'd ever use it to save the likes of the Lost, Vix thought, teeht gritted as she tried to keep an eye out for the attacker.

Jeanne was hiding behind a nearby bullethole-decorated crate, weapons drawn and heart racing as she watched the Lost recover from the initial rain of bullets. She turned to Vix and the others, speaking in a hushed tone.

"Hey, think you could do something altogether nasty to him with whatever powers you've got there if I went and distracted him?" The swordswoman smiled wrily. "Don't worry about me, though...If you were, that is."

It didn't take Rachel long to reach the dinner and by her assessment the situation was beyond critical. A handful of the Lost mutates were being mowed down by two or more gunmen, from inside the dinner. She noticed a civilian nearby, clasping onto her knee in pain. Rachel focused on her empathic abilities and went down to help.

Come out and fight, coward, Vix growled mentally, hoping that the target would hear. She simply nodded in reply to Jeanne, keeping her focus on preserving the lives of the Lost, the civilians, and not throwing up.

"Coward?" came a resounding, slithery feminine voice. The Italian-American accent was unescapable, her tone deadly and sharp as a razor blade. The dinner's wooden doors slid open and out came a pair of long flowing legs, strutting across the concrete pavement in a smooth and stylish catwalk, leather trenchcoat fluttering in her wake. "You self-proclaimed heroes are very confused individuals" she began, talking directly to the psychic who had communicated with her. "The plan was to help you clean out the trash here in Skyway. Now imagine our surprise when we find you wanna-be martyrs standing by their side and in such a hurry to die for them."

Posted

"'Clean out the Trash'?!" Vix snarled. "You think that excuses murder? Murdering some people who had done nothing wrong? Who do you think you are? And, more importantly, no-one else is dying. That stops, right now!"

"Don't be afraid of death little woman" said the lady Pistol, her muscled gunmen exiting the diner to stand by her side. "Death is a wonderful journey through the unknown, a bittersweet voyage across all of eternity. It's a little something like stepping through the gateways at Portal Corps, only so much more, gratifying." She paused, a wicked smile dancing on her blood red lips. "Truth is, some of my friends have decided they don't want people like you around here anymore, and at this particular moment in time, I'm in a position to do something about it. Simply put, I'm the bi*ch with a gun to your face." A flash of light and a deathly loud bang, echoing through the streets, the smell of burning metal suddenly smothering the scene. With lightning reflexes, Pistol had produced a compact semi-automatic handgun and fired off a single bullet, aimed directly at the young lady's skull.

Jeanne was about to make her move when the woman stepped out, then thought the better of it, and stayed behind the crate, listening to the woman make her speech. Her eyes then widened as she heard the gunshot. She then leapt at Vix, pushing her out of the way of the lady Pistol's aim. A white-hot searing pain coursed through her body as the bullet smashed through her shoulder, blood and bone splinters splashing out to all sides as she hit the ground with a thud barely audible over her cry of pain.

Her face pale and her body shaking from the pain, Jeanne rose slowly, clutching the gunwound on her limp arm with her good hand. "T-that hurt." With a faintly absent giggle, she fell over again and fainted. However, colour seemed to return to her face again and her wounded arm twitched, the torn shoulder seemingly mending itself already, with bone, flesh and skin regenerating as Jeanne remained unconscious.

Vix rolled upright, grimacing as she saw the wound in Jeanne, one that only slightly lessoned as it started to knit again. She went a slight empathic pulse into her, enough to give her consciousness back.

"B*tch, huh?" she growled, glasses flashing as she turned to pistol, a red glow rising in her eyes. "Yeah, that sounds about accurate."
There was a serious of rather close sounding clicks and clinks. Almost in slow motion, the handgun exploded like it was in space, little pins and springs dancing as the main slide and the hammer hovered into the air.

"People like me?" Vix clenched her fists until the knuckles clicked. "I'll show you just who you're up against!"
The psionic blast was aimed and presice, a wave with the equivelant feel of a brick wall hammering through the diner, until it left a dent in the back wall.

Meanwhile...

The trucks had to take the scenic route, but they had gotten through to the warehouse, and some of his guys were getting them unloaded. Jake had left his foreman to supervise, and kept a watch on what the cops were doing.

He'd seen the bodies ferried off, presumably to the morgue. He'd seen the irate cop he'd spoken to head off somewhere with the looker and another dame. (Five'd get ya ten they were headed for the sewers. Seemed like half of everything in this town involved the sewers.) He'd seen more masks arrive, and that was the thing that was worrying him. You got enough masks together and things always got messy.

When the noise of the explosion came from somewhere over the way, followed by the sound of gunfire, he had the dubious satisfaction of being proven right. The truck drivers hardly paid it any attention; they were locals and pretty used to this kind of thing. But most of his workers were from Chicago, where things were a bit quieter, and they were looking kind of nervous.

Jake sauntered over to one of the trucks and casually picked up a 10 foot section of I-beam, hefting the 220lbs of steel easily onto his shoulder. Waving at his men to get back to work he walked over to the entrance into the warehouse's yard, propping the I-beam against the wall he casually leaned against.

The whole reason he'd managed to get so many good workers to come to Paragon was because he'd promised they wouldn't have to worry about any of the assorted freaks that ran round the city. And if any of that trouble was dumb enough to roll over this way, they'd find out that Jake Anderson was always good for his word...

However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator

The telekinetic blast struck Pistol hard, pushing her clear across the sidewalks and into the diner. Her musclemen were thrown backwards, right through the glass windows. Pistol didn't stay down long. "Alright then, lets make this interesting" she hissed, taking off her long trenchcoat to reveal a slim-fitted black top with shorts. She removed her gloves and cracked her knucles hard. With inhuman agility, she charged at the young psychic, a barrage of well-placed punches lined up for attack, each as powerful as a rolling stone.

Vix blocked, blocked, then scythed low with a spinning kick, before aiming a punishing uppercut at Pistol's jaw.
"You think I rely only psionics?" she snarled, pulling back out of range into a guarded stance, "You lucked out...Murderer" Added to the last word was a mental barrage aimed only at Pistol.

Pistol was impressed to see the furry little woman block and block again, her heavy blows. She saw the spinning kick coming and deflected it with her shin, the sound of clashing bones richochetted, followed by the swishing noise of sharp martial arts choreography as Pistol calmly and stylishly evaded the uppercut. She didn't give her opponent too much time to back off, chasing after her with two wide strides, followed by a charged backfist strike aimed towards the temple. She would have to knock this girl unconscious and kill her while she slept.

Pistol's gunmen climbed back out of the diner but were engaged by the Lost mutates, each exchanging gunfire before moving in close to deliver heavy blows. In the distance, sirens could be heard, whailing louder and louder.

This b*tch was good, Vix admitted, ducking under the strike and settling for a not-so-stylish but also damn effective kick in the kneecap, followed by a retreat. This time, however, she ran, ending up halfway back down the street.
"Outrun this," she muttured, before charging back within the second, mind going into overdrive to try and pick up which way Pistol was going to try and dodge, if at all.

With a wicked smirk, Pistol pounced forward into a sprint, ready to collide with the incoming bull. Her right arm coiled back, collecting momentum for a killing blow, her left hand playing dangerously close to a gun holster.

Jeanne shook her head dazedly as she stood up, the last signs of the bullet wound fading quickly thanks to the added emphathic boost. She looked around for her rapiers, relieved to find them on the ground near her. Once she got that out of the way, she glanced around the battlefield...

Gunmen duking it out with the Lost, the fur-covered lady fighting the pistolier. Her eyes widened as she saw the latter reaching for a gun. She muttered a few choice oaths, then started to run their way, yelling "Gun! She has a gun!" hoping the fox-woman would hear before it was too late...

Posted

The lost mutates didn't stand a chance against Pistol's highly trained gunmen. They were quickly overpowered, gunned down and forced to swallow explosive clips. One after the other, the Lost mutates were incinerated. The gunmen now turned thier attention to the sword-wielder. "Hey swordfish" they mocked, "Pistol always has a gun. That's why we call her Pistol." The leather-clad enforcers roared with laughter, effortlessly moving to surround their prey. ((By the way Serathin, these men are not NPC's so you shouldn't really play them.))

Posted

(( Oh! I'm dreadfully sorry, still kinda new at this thing. Thought they were just your average blow-'em-up henchmen. Anyways, I've edited out the fight ))

Jeanne skid to a halt as the gunmen surrounded her. She assumed a defensive position, but knew she was outnumbered. The chemicals used to grant her her regenerative powers hadn't been in her system long enough yet to fully come to bloom, and when all six of these guys'd unload, she'd know it'd be the end of her. She bit her lips, glancing from one gunner to the other, hoping to find an opening...There was none. She lowered her swords, then looked up at the men, grinning weakly. "Eh..Truce?"

Posted

Vix saw what was going to happen, and sidestepped Pistol in a blur that made the air hum.
"Fight or talk, but don't...do...BOTH" she shouted as she skidded to a stop in the middle of the circle. She had already isolated Jeanne's 'pattern', you could call it, from her thoughts, before letting rip with what some Blaster classifaction heroes termed a 'Nuke', a wall of expanding psionics that traded in any form of subtlety for sheer stopping power.
The pavement cracked under her feet, what tables were left outside the diner went flying. She could only hope it had the same effect on the Villain and her henchmen.
