Interesting Anniversary comparison

B) CoX players didn't get much more for our 5th Anniversary

I got a weekend catching up with old friends and two new lvl 50s, one of which I only started on saturday evening. This game is much more casual player friendly than I remember.

I'm really glad you think that. But of course catching up with friends can be done on both games.
As for a getting a new 50 in a couple of evenings, well I'm not convinced that's a good thing. The Journey is as important as the Destination IMO.

I'm sorry, but that depends on so many variables it doesn't make any sense to make a wide sweeping generalization like that.
Well the true test from Paragon Studio's PoV is does the MA bring in more revenue?
On the current basis it would appear that is so. Certainly there's a lot more activity on the servers currently, so more people are trying it and a significant proportion seem to be new players to the game.
That can't be bad.
But what will be bad is if they come into the game, get to level 50 in the MA and then leave having decided that the "real" content is too slow and grindy. That's the real danger.
Can this new influx of bodies be persuaded to stick around? That's the acid test of the MA and the whole new direction that Paragon Studios are taking their game.

For you its important, for me its totaly boring. Great feeling of 'been there done that' and yet another annoyancy of getting through the dull pre-SO lvls.
CoH lacks diversity at top, what you do at lvl1 you still do at 20, 30 or 40, and even at 50. Go in a mission, do your thing (clicky, wack all, wack boss) and repeat.
Only if u really interested in the story, it would be nice to do it once, but not more then that.
50)Sinergy X/(50)Mika.
(50)MaceX/(50)Encore
Sign the petition, dont let CoH go down! SIGN!
Can see both sides of the coin...
I like to play the content and dont see the point of having a 50 that you dont know how to play etc, but .....
......I have 32 alts for example, so getting them a bit higher can be a grind sometimes, so I have actually farmed for the first time ever the last couple of days, just to get high enough to have some different alts for TFs etc
Zhaan, Chakyra, Fiorina 161, Aeryn, Polly Nation, Dee Pression, Shazanne, Night Jester and too many more to mention.

I agree. CoX's destination is a barren wasteland (i.e. there's nothing to do at level 50), thus it's important to make the game your levelling process. Now that's gone, there's nothing left.

I only popped into GW for about an hour or so of their birthday celebrations... but just the minor addition of having fireworks going off in a few locations made it feel like it was celebrating IMO.
Having a few birthday-drops (minor buffs from things like pieces of birthday cake) and a small gift to players with an attached RL-value (a £5.99 inventory slot thingummy) felt a lot more than CoX did.
Funnily enough it's the fireworks and birthday drops (that cost little more than some dev time) rather than the RL-value gift that I thought added the most to the birthday...

Another alt slot, heck, even a free cossie token (as if the 48 I have isn't enough) or something like that would've been nice indeed. Rather unimaginative...
But I'm still more upset about the so called "speech". Simply poor marketing, but let's not start another round of discussion about it!
Just been reading this write up from Massively about the Guild Wars 4th Anniversary, which happened to fall on the 5th Anniversary of CoX
http://www.massively.com/2009/04/24/...year-in-style/
Now when I read that I thought to myself: Not bad for a free to play game which is only celebrating 4 years, and arguably close to what we got on a game supported by monthly subscriptions and celebrating a far bigger milestone.
Several things struck me:
A) Stupid NCSoft for launching two games on the same date! Dumb dumb dumb.
B) CoX players didn't get much more for our 5th Anniversary and yet our cost/hour played is so much higher. How important do we feel? Sure we get free content additions, but if you consider the TCO of CoX vs GW over the course of 12 months, which comes out on top?
C) Even the GW fans are whining about what they got for the Anniversary. Does that say more about NCSoft's lack of regard for its players or fans generally?
GW is about the only other MMO I play, very occasionally - and I do enjoy it when I dip in so I wasn't unimpressed with the promised content for a free game. But considering what I pay for CoX what we got in comparison was a bit weak, but equally, clearly the expectations of the fan base is often unrealistic.
I'm not going to harp on here. I've said my piece about what I think of the CoX celebs, but I'd be interested in the thoughts you guys have.
