From memory:
Access the published story from the 'My Published Stories' and select 'EDIT' and then most of the 'Save' buttons turn from 'Save' to 'Republish' (e.g. 'Save and Exit' -> 'Republish and Exit').
If you do it this way (My Published Stories -> EDIT -> republish) then the ID and ratings remain intact.

Be careful when you edit published stories. I recommend that you made small changes and republish frequently.
It seem not check for all the errors it checks for in local edit mode.
I made a lot of changes to a published arc and added too many objectives (8) that one of the mission maps could handled (6). It didn't show any errors before I republished and when I did, it said arc invalid and threw all my changes away.
What I wonder, though, is if you edit a published story, will the local file change to represent this, or is it just the published (uploaded) file which is changed? If it's only the uploaded file which gets edited, will the published file overwrite the local file if you unpublish?
Also, when you unpublish an arc, will it just get deleted from the server or is it downloaded to your local client?
If you unpublish it's deleted, unless you've autosaved or 'saved as locally'

What happens if you edit an existing published story?
Specifically:
Do you lose the ratings you currently have?
Does the ID change?
