Daedulus / Positron

I was running the new Deadulus Cimerora story arcs last night with two members of my supergroup, stretching our wearing skiing muscles and putting the smackdown on Arachnos, Malta, Crey and Cimerorans alike. It was during one of the final missions when Daedulus accompanied us, that one of my teammates yelled out - HE'S POSITRON!

Deadulus as gold / blue armour, and radiation powers. He is the 'master craftsman' of his era. He is, for all intents and purposes, that generations Position - down to the power sets!

So - do we think this was lazy dev work - or do with think that perhaps there is a link?

Uhmm....no, really?
Imperious = Statesman. He even has the same faceplate.
The Sybil = Sister Psyche
Deady = Positron
Sister whatsername (new villain one) = Ghostwidow

Thats kinda the whole point.

Crank back the sarcasm a little, it's not like I said "let's merge the servers". Perhaps it's only just occurred to me because:

a) I didn't make the link between Sybil and Psyche
b) Imperious really doesn't remind me too much of Statesman, even with the faceplate.

Seeing Daedulus fight is the first real time I've seen an obvious similarity.

Thanks for being so accepting to my post.

Didn't even cross my mind, but makes sense.

So, other than me apparently not being as 'quick' as some others, what I was hoping for were some theories / discussions as to *why* there are these 'mirror' characters in Cimerora?

So you have never been in a ITF team where someone has made a quirky comment about Daedalus being Posi? Because if thats the case, then that is one unique team.
Don't think I have ever been in an ITF team where posi wasn't mentioned in the Defeat Rommy and his Generals (the mish with Requiem - Quite easily the best villain in this game I may add)

I've seen it written down somewhere that Daedlus is the Cimeroran version of Positron. It's a known fact.

So, yes, there's a deeper, underlying plot thingy at work.

Nope, never. We're usually too busy making chit-chat whilst we crush evil - the joy of SG teams running ITF - it's just something I've missed, and Diggis is proof that it's not just me

So - 'why' are they mirrors? Theories?

What..... Like an eternal battle of the gods that continues to rage through time. They surround themselves with their re-icarnetd comrades of the era to bring the battle into a new decade/millenium etc etc.

Will we see a future zone with similar characters ??

They're identical when it comes to their powers and very alike in looks. They even share the same signature attack (pbaoe lightning storm thingamob)

I really haven't seen Statesman in action that much.

Recluse's Victory: I just leave him to it and claim pillboxes once he's done

Mender Silos' Task Force: I *may* have let the pompus fool die. He's meant to be powered by Zeus - so how is it I don't keel over as easily as him?

Anyhoo - it's possible that 'templates' a repeated through time, Tuarus. It's a good theory.

Didn't States and Recluse get their powers by drinking from the Well of the Furies? Greek Mythology at its best

I think to a degree it's a case of the spirits/souls of signature characters being reincarnated through time. With the incarnation of Statesman and Recluse kick-starting the latest age of heroes and allowing the powerful souls of old to return.
So Statesman is the modern era's Imperious rather than Imperious being the Roman era's Statesman... if that makes sense.

Digging around a bit, I suspect it was this: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Daedalus

There a Note, right at the bottom of the page. Not exactly exciting.

I'd imagine, the signature heroes/villains are represented n both time frames. They aren't the same people, just the same 'archetypes'. If you wander around the Origin of Powers arc, you can probably get a good idea of the kinds of people to expect back there, though Sister Psyche is an interesting choice, since mutants didn't exist then and Sis shows no prophetic powers I'm aware of.

It does seem to be that there's a link between them, the Power of Origins arc suggests that Incarnates tend to be similar to their predecessor and the 'original' origin, one origin to rule them all and in the heroics/villainy bind them.

The trouble with the Power of Origins arc is that it's all personal opinion, Sister Psyche says that there were no records of mutant origin heroes before the atom but I say that's bupkiss, we merely lacked the scientific explanation to consider some people of Mutant origin, their powers would have been attributed to some god (Magic origin, much like the Sybils) when in reality their powers were a mutation (plus Sister Psyche loves being the center of all things since she claims to be perhaps the worlds first purely Psychic mutant...yeah, whatever helps you keep your star status within the universe sister, if it helps you sleep at night).

From what I can fathom out is that the signature heroes are constants, there will always be an inventor type like Positron, always be a psychic/force fields like Sister Psyche.

The only thing is besides Sister whatsherface/Ghost Widow we have no other examples of the villains repeating themselves (no Lord Recluse version like Imperious is to Statesman, no heavily armoured Roman Mercenary or no Avatar of the Leviathan...).

[/ QUOTE ]It's certainly a possibility, although I'm not sure where he'd fit in the Cimeroran story. The big bad is the Nictus and I don't think there's really room for another.

Well I have been in a lot of Unique itf's then. Since i never noticed or heard that Deadalous is Positron. Interesting.

I did it for the first time a week or so ago, and spotted that the instant I saw Daedalus... Was kinda obvious!

Definitive proof that deadulus and sybil are in fact based heavily on positron and ghost widow.

Taken from article, Issue 13: Designing the new missions

SYBIL:
The Cimerora arcs came about as a way to help me learn the mission writing tools shortly after I started working on City of Heroes/City of Villains. Joe Morrissey, the Lead Mission Writer, provided the core of the idea for the first hero and villain arcs and asked me to run with it, to step me through the development process. I was given the mandate of no new assets or code for these arcs. We spent some time kicking the idea around. The idea of using Daedalus as a new hero contact came pretty naturally; he's a neat character and would be the kind of guy who'd ask a hero to help him get out of a tough situation. Joe mentioned that Jay Doherty had done up a version of Ghost Widow as a Sibyl, and that was the genesis for a new villain contact, the "Ghost Sibyl."

DEADULUS:
Since Daedalus is the Cimeroran version of Positron and the greatest craftsman of his age, I wanted his second arc to feature some sort of crafting or item creation. So the first act has the hero investigating a threat, the second act sends the hero to create a device to help protect Cimerora from the threat, and the final act lets the hero protect Cimerora while Daedalus employs the device to prevent the threat from reoccurring. In the second mission, the "crafting mission," I delved deeper into our dialog tree system and had a lot of fun writing the Crey Energy Fabricator Mk I. Although it is only a machine, I could hear its voice and get a sense for its personality as I wrote its dialog. I think the sequence there works better than a "get the salvage and go to an invention table" type of crafting mission.

You might find this enlightening:

Of all the questions asked of me at Hero Con the number one was "How did the D&D game go?"

In a word: Awesome.

Spoilers below

I had a blast, and I think the players did too. When everyone gathered in the suite, I informed them that the characters were level 12, and based on the Cimeroran versions of the Freedom Phalanx: Imperious (Statesman, Fighter), Sister Solaris (Sister Psyche, Cleric), Daedalus (Positron, Warlock), Orion (Manticore, Ranger), Parthenon (Citadel, Paladin), and Marathon (Synapse, Rogue).

Once everyone had picked their characters, they opened their packets to find their character sheets, a four-page primer on the 4th edition rules, and color-coded character power cards. The cards helped IMMENSELY as they had all the bonuses added up already, so the players only had 1 number to add to their die rolls most of the time.

The story started with the players tasked to get the Golden Fleece before Romulus' agents could. The agents had a head start, so they would have to try to make up time wherever they could.

They were in a high walled canyon when they came across the hours-dead corpses of some Cyclopses. They then found themselves ambushed by more Cyclopses looking to avenge their fallen comrades. Once they defeated the boss Cyclops, the Impaler 'clopses ran off. Victory for the players!

Then they made their way to the cave entrance that would lead them through the mountain to the valley beyond. The entrance was blocked by an immovable boulder, and they soon found a hermit who was an "agent of balance". The hermit informed them that they could pass if they could prove themselves counter to the group that had previously passed this way, Romulus' agents. The agents proved themselves to be evil, so Imperious and crew were tasked to prove themselves to be good. Words were not good enough, it would take action to prove this.

Point of order: Proving you are Good by action is a lot harder than proving you are Evil.

The party finally succeeded by healing the wounds of Marathon from the previous fight, an act of sacrifice (of a healing surge) to mend a friend. This was good enough for the Hermit and he let them into the cave.

The cave quickly turned into a maze, complete with Minotaurs attacking. After felling them, they found themselves in the valley where the presipice containing the fleece was found. They made their way to the presipce and found the chewed, dead bodies of Romulus' agents by a cave near the fleece. Approaching the fleece, a Hydra attacked, and while the party dealt with that, the surviving four agents made their way to get the fleece.

In the end the party was victorious over the Hydra and the agents, recovered the fleece and gave it to the Cimeroran version of Azuria for safe keeping. (Or did they specifically say NOT to give it to her? I don't remember, it was like 2am).

The session was recorded, and I have yet to listen to it. If it's able to be edited and put up for download, I will see to it that it is at some point before the next Hero-Con.

Interesting story and it shows that i am blind as a bat for clues.

Btw I think that DnD 4th edition would make an excellent engine for a superhero game. I am still planning to use it for a CoH inspired campaign. After I wrap up My WfrP game.

At first, I thought it might have been Romulus, as he and Imperius were friends before falling out, just like Statesman and Recluse.
