Is there any chance of brutes getting Ice Melee, tankers have it & fire melee
y not the brutes?

The Ice secondary effect is -recharge, -recharge means slower attacks and slower attacks means less fury. 'Least, that's the reason I was told, so no Ice/Ice Brutes.

Yup, that was the reason why the set was removed after Beta: apparently it wasn't very good at building Fury.

It was, apparently, terrible at building Fury. That's one bit of proliferation that won't happen.

Actually, it might... Brutes got Arctic Breath this last issue in one of their Patron pools. Yes, it does -recharge. So does Web Envelope. And Dark Armor is already terrible for building fury anyway.

All signs point to "Maybe, but not anytime soon in any case", if you ask me.

I did make an ice brute in the beta and tbh i found it ok but a few tweeks would be needed for the set to be a active power pick

The problem with Ice was it's all Defence, which means you don't get hit. Not getting hit, less often... not so good.

Whatever. I generally can't stand villains.

That was what I remember of the reasons given in beta.

You don't need to get hit at all to gain Fury.

It's based on attack -attempts- against you. It doesn't matter if it hits, misses, or is dodged. Why do you think Brutes have Invulnerability, Super Reflexes, Energy Aura, and Shield Defense?

Posted

I looked it up, yeah, fair enough. Just the over-abundance of attack rate debuffs. Cool.

Though you realise that quoting a combination of things which don't both reduce hits and number of attempts is not actually a valid rebuttal? You're just trying unsuccessfully to rub it in.

[/ QUOTE ]No, I'm just trying to prevent people from spreading misinformation if at all possible. Defense does not hamper Fury in any way. Sadly, I see lots of new people who think it does, for various odd reasons.

If I were only doing this to amuse myself I'd point out that Dark Armor actually already both reduces incoming attack attempts AND has Defense (lol).

Ice Melee was removed from brutes because the -recharge made it hard do build fury.

Ice Armour (brute) was converted into Energy Aura, so there would be a thematic pairing with a power they did get, rather than a power they didn't.

I still want to know how they came to that conclusion ice was a perfectly good brute set. was particularly good for boss's if i remember correctly.

Are you saying you demand a datamine?
Because that's what I think they did: compare the numbers with the other Brute sets and concluded they were under performing.

Yes redatamine the ice brutes

Cause if they did i was clearly playing a different ice/ice brute than every one else cause mine was fine granted i never got to the high lvls

But then if were talking the high lvls they should really have made changes to dark.

Swap out OG for Chill of the Night, gosh.

At least the damage aura combined with CoF doesn't completely stop attacks, if you run both.. Slows them down and reduces tohit though. Doesn't mean CoF is good on a Brute either though.

I'm sure yiur Ice brute would be quite playable. It would be pretty stong defensively.

At low levels, against small groups of mobs, using mostly single target attacks, you would hardly notice the difference in fury building, since much of it is generated by your own attacks in these circumstances.

It is against large groups of mobs, at higher levels, that the difference in DPS would become more significant.

Even then, it might be to small for you, as a player, to notice, but you can be sure that other players would soon learn that an Ice brute only does around 75% of the DPS as any other sort of brute, and avoid teaming with you.

Funny, I don't notice people specifically avoiding /Dark Brutes...

...or do I? I can't actually remember seeing a /Dark Brute in what appears to be months now.

Posted

Quite. /dark only has two powers that inpede fury generation, and they are easily turned off, but it still makes the set an unpopular choice.

The thing is PRAF i don't play defensively and very rarely take on small groups i came from a tank background (stone/stone at the time) I would frequently charge multiple groups with all my test brutes just to see how they did and i don't remember the ice being any worse than the others and while yes possibly the ice brute would do %75 percent less damage than his brute brothers he would also boost the survive ability of his fellow team mates.

I just find the idea that Ice was removed because it adversely affected furry and thus the performance of the brute some what ridiculus at low lvls the effect is hardly noticeable if there at all and in the upper lvls ice is not the only set with powers that cause a fury drop there's is dark which was already discussed there's also elec both the melee set and the armour can decrease the fury generated because of end drain, energy aura as well again because of end drain then there's super strength with its hand clap maneuver stone as well has a few a attacks that can slow fury generation.

Personally i think a far more likely reason is that they wanted to keep something exclusive and ice was chosen because of the way it works.

Other sets have a few powers that can decrease fury generation (I wouldn't include end drain in that though, unless you build a sapper build and reduce end to zero it has no effect on mobs attacking, and improved end recovery actually helps fury generation, reducing the brute's need to rest). Ice Melee doesn't have any powers which don't reduce fury generation (apart from build up and taunt, neither of which does damage on its own). This means you don't even have the option not to use them. I expect there was an element of wanting to keep it unique as well.

They did electric armour for stalkers, despite the fact that it completly sucks for stalkers, but quite frankly, it was a waste of developer time, no one plays it anyway.
