Surely there is a better and quicker way.....
I've heard some people saying you get a faster connection when downloading the US client and then changing it to point to the EU servers.
Also, its alot quicker to install CoH, then CoV, THEN update.
Do you have CoV installed already or just CoH?
At present just trying to get the client to do the install. problem is more around the version of the client being used to do the install... seems to be updating in batches, then reconnecting then reupdating to next one and doing the verify and file fix...

The way I said about installing COH, then COV, then doing updates should mean alot less updates to do at the end.

You don't need to install it twice - CoH and Cov use the same client so install it once, let it update and you can access both games.
If you want to access the test server or the US servers installing to a seperate location is a good idea as they may be on different versions at any one time - Test usually will be and US can be depending on the times of programmed maintenance. - Install it once, start the install for the second and immediately cancel it after setting locations, then copy the entire folder structure across then edit the copy of the shortcut for test as described on the test forum or download the US client as appropriate (you can use the US client to connect to the EU servers by renaming it but you won't get support for other languages which you will get with the proper EU client. That way you only need a small download and not the full 2Gb for each.

There's a high probability your ISP is throttling the port. Who do you use?
Necrobond - 50 BS/Inv Scrapper made in I1
Rickar - 50 Bots/FF Mastermind
Anti-Muon - 42 Warshade
Ivory Sicarius - 45 Crab Spider
Aber ja, natrlich Hans nass ist, er steht unter einem Wasserfall.
Well as I am busy installing the game anew as well. I concur with the slowness of the process. Would be great if it could be speeded up.

I know, but they also share files/information, so doing this does help. For example, bases are included with CoV but not CoH- it would need to update to get the files it needs for these.

No - there is and only ever has been the one client that contains everything both games needs. Even in the days when you needed to buy CoH and CoV separately, the base data was still there if you only had CoH, you just couldn't access it if your account didn't allow it.
To get updated to the current version as quickly as possible, just install the latest CD you have (which probably will be CoV), then start the online patching.
Ideally, if you have a local friend with a working copy, you can take a copy of their game directory and copy it to your PC (all the account-specific data, like toons, is stored on the NCSoft servers, not locally), make a shortcut to the updater, and that should be that.
Standoff is right. To clarify, you couldn't install CoH or CoV by itself if you WANTED to.
A better way of seeing it is Alliance and Horde on WoW. Two separate factions with their own classes and zones, but a singular game, and a singular program.
Also, because CoH and CoV accounts have been fully unified as of July, you now have access to both no matter what account you have, or when you got it. So you wouldn't want 'only' CoH or CoV installed. Unless you're a thicky, anyway.
If you're still having problems with downloading, restart the updater a few times. That will cycle the port it's using to connect, and assuming your ISP is throttling these ports, you may get lucky. There's also the possibility your ISP is throttling ALL CoX ports. Who are you with?

Guys, thanks for all the replies..
Just to point out that it is not my ISP side causing the issue as I've had to do the same with Warhammeronline and my other online games and those flew down the line at breakneck speeds.
It is only when it comes to CoH i have the problem. I am however back up and runnin gnow .... so see ya all on in the city/isles

WAR doesn't use the same ports.
I really should do something about this signature.
I don't care what you get on WAR. Quite a few ISPs throttle the specific ports that CoH uses.
I had serious issues updating on Demon, with constant file manifest hangs. Everything else ran at full speed, just not CoH. I changed to Be and got I13 in 7 minutes flat.

Personally used to take me about 6 hours to download a 5mb patch but something changed and now it runs at full speed. Not sure what's changed buy guessing my ISP changed the port throttling or something like it.
I used to go to a friends house, update the game, put it on a flashdrive and bring back home to copy it. Was a grand day when it started to work as it was supposed to.

Yup i know for a fact BT throttle the ports as it took me a age to download i12 (i think) however after after several phone calls lots of complaining and much pointing out that i was paying for there top package so that i could make full use of broadband without fear of going over my usage limit. Every time they assured me they didn't employ port throttling but strangely my speed drastically improved.
Out of curiosity what ports dose CoH use and is there a nice simple way to check weather there being throttled (other than looking at the update speed and going that's not right)
to download the game client? the reson i ask is that once again i've been nailed by a serious pc bug that resulted in me getting a new pc. problem is that in th almost 4 years in the game i only have the original disk available and its causing me headaches to do the game client download and install. 3 days and counting to try get it down and installed......
