Idea for an Open RP thread, but first...

Okay, so I've got an idea for an Open RP thread, one which for once would have little to no fighting whatsoever, and even if their was it'd hopefully remain purely verbal.

So the idea's based on an episode of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (The Complex Episode "Chat! Chat! Chat!") which takes place almost entirely in a cyberspace chatroom with everyone discussing the subject of the Laughing Man.

Now, my idea would be everyone discussing Dr. Mechano's recent antics, and initially was just going to be a mundane physical-world room full of civilians forming part of some club whose primary focus is discussing stuff like this, but Omy suggested in GGOOC that I have it in an online game, like Z's recent thread.

Okie dokie, so... how should I go about it? I'm assuming even with all the reversed-engineered Rikti and other such supertechnocrap in CoX's world, the Internet would be almost as lame as it is in the real world today, if not equally, right? And if so, how possible could it even be to have something like this in an MMO? Okay, we've got Second Life out there, but I was hoping to stick with characters chatting vocally. Logic (or at least my oddball form of it) would dictate that not everyone's gonna be in a position to use voice chat, even in CoX's world, correct?

(Maybe I'm thinking too much into this... )

[EDIT] In case everything said in this post has completely gone over the heads of everyone who's read this thread I'll narrow it down to this: LOOKING FOR ADVICE ON THIS SORT OF THING BEFORE I END UP MAKING A MAJOR SCREWUP SOMEHWERE AND FINDING MYSELF GETTING MY GROIN STEPPED ON.

^(Also for those incapable of reading posts properly)

Hmm, an open forum RP without half the community trying to kill themselves, angsting, or grabbing at the spotlight like a deranged moth. Is that possible?

Shame you're not going with the original idea of a chatroom, text or otherwise, i wouldn't of minded getting Eve in on it, as part of her 'education' involves being connected into the internet.

But where the fun in RPing a bunch of geeks playing an MMO?

I suppose the characters could be using something like Teamspeak and then the game does not matter so much. It wou ld just provide the potential for funny comments.

Well, a text-based chatroom would have just been a bit... Meh, if you ask me, and I'm not entirely certain if a chatroom like in GitS would even happen in CoX's world. Look at most of the civilian computers, most of which still make use of old CRT monitors and show what look like your mundane old HTML sites on them. Hence the idea of going for the Second Life-esque MMO thing.

Change of pace? An excuse not to blow **** up or not see **** blown up for once? Seeing what the civilian masses think of the nutjob? :S

Sorry, i think the ironic humour of that comment has been lost on you, because, y'know, that's what WE'RE doing.

And change of pace? half the RP community do nothing but sit around, talking about the weather, kittens, and randomly changing their gender.

How about a Pocket D version of second life or sims online ...

you could have a Pocket D web site .. to book tables , fight facilities , see what DJ's are in the club , the fashion and gosip pages..

and then say it has a online chat room with avatars where people go to arrange meets and party detail ...

that way you can have both Heroes and Villians in the debate ....

As I suspect that my insane stunt in the Party Time thread is the target of some of the criticism going around here, take this for what it's worth...

The idea of having players give voice to what the Ordinary People(TM) think (or at least that they think the ordinary people think) of current affairs is a good one, in my opinion. The biggest question seems to be about how to format it.

Why not got for the simplest option, and base the thread around a superhero/villain discussion forum, with players taking up the role of fans, critics or (incognito) heroes commenting on the latest events? Forums are not exactly great for capturing the continuous flow of a chatroom or direct conversation. They are, however, surprisingly good for simulating forums.

Knights Exemplar: Wolfram, Autumnfox, Starlit Spirit.
Militia: The Portent, Wavekite, Mr. Sandman.
The Cadre: WarpLocke, Zajin.
Numerous others.

This I rather like. A Pocket D meeting room of some form. Hmmm...

I'd be dead interested in seeing this happen in general. Aside from anything else, Operative Seven is heavily based around Motoko Kusanagi and the though of having her rez her avatar into a setting like that is almost too good to miss.

However, I hate forum RP and the last Dr Mechano thing I tried to get involved with just reminded me how much and why.

Disclaimer: The above may be humerous, or at least may be an attempt at humour. Try reading it that way.

A forum might be a good idea, but once again thiers the irony factor there

(Thought I'd responded to this...)

But yeah... I don't even know the first thing about using IRC outside of using Pidgin to get to a channel. :\

it could be MSN or anything, but rather than trying to forum RP it.

Well, I feel pulled towards the MMO. But Chatroom/Forum sounds good.

As the subject of the IC discussion (I.E. That nutjob) I'll make a vow to keep well out of the topic IC and OOC posting wise.

Doesn't mean to say I wont read it but I wont be posting in it, think it wouldn't be right.

Anyway...I like the idea of a yahoo style chatroom dedicated to all things super (both hero and villain) but that's just me.

*kicks thread up the backside*

After a bit of faffing about trying a few things, I think it's safe to say I may need to resort to "MSN or anything" after all. *shudders* >_>
