Blizzard?

Hey there, this question relates to my lvl36 ice/mental blaster. I took Blizzard at lvl32 because....well, why not? All the other top tier blaster primary powers are plenty of fun and despite the DoT nature of Blizzard- i thought, "Well...How bad can it be?"

Four levels further in with this character and it seems that Blizzard is a bit poo. Despite boasting extreme dot, i aint seeing anything more than 1s and 2s dropping off. Ok- it is ranged and it does seem to rechg relatively quicker than some of the other blaster nukes, but what good is that really? Its not like you can spam a power that drops ur entire end bar, is it? Even if u try and exploit the ranged aspect of the power, because its DoT some of the mob will make it off the AoE to charge u down anyway... + to cap it all off, after seeing the animation on the power for the 1st time I think someone should sue ncsoft/norcal (or whatever) under the trades description act- Blizzard indeed! Maybe rename it Blue Ice Drop? Anyways...

Am I missing something here? Because at the moment Im so disapointed with this powers performance I think im just going to 'spec it out. Once I get PSW I recon Ill have all the Aoe Dmg I need along with Frosty Breath and Psy Scream.(< Just an assumption im making, btw)

Does anyone agree with me? Is there anyone thats found a particular use for it their build?

Blizzard is all kinds of awesome. Ranged nuke (LoS not required), with slow and KD components. Plus, if you think about it its the only Nuke with no "real" cap limit.

As Ice/MM you might not need it, but I really enjoy it - specially when tank decides to herd or some Scrapper decides to overaggro and ends up thanking me for saving his butt).

The recharge is the same than the other nukes btw (bar RoA and FullAuto).

I love BLizzard on my Ice/Fire blaster. Aim + BU + Ice Storm + Blizzard and I might just kill over the cap (cause of the targeting on each tic)

I tend to fire it and then watch them fall over rather than do it from out of LoS but its very safe to use as KD + Slow is a good combo for mitigation

get to 50, toss 3 dmg/range HOs and 3 recharge/tohit debuff/defense debuff HOs in it, and watch how things just melt away while not damaging you. One of the great things about Blizzard is the ToHit debuff. it's 20% unslotted, which means you can slot it to a bit over 30% on a blaster. That actually means quite a lot vs. enemies with base tohit of 50%. Add to that the knockdown and slow it does and it's really effective vs. large groups.

Ok, well, it definately seems that i have mis-judged blizzard. Didn't realise it did a -ToHit, thats quite cool.
Although i still see it as one of my more despensable powers Ill definatly take all ur advice under consideration and get the power 6 slotted b4 i do anything rash.

Thanks for all your replies.

(Btw, i still think they should change the name of the power. I mean, I've never been in a blizzard, but i imagine that there's more to it than raining chunks of ice...Perhaps this would be a good place for people to share their blizzard experiences or maybe recall amusing anecdotes concerning abnormal weather patterns (shouldn't be too hard if ur from the U.K)

Um we dont really get anything like snow down here on the south coast. The only weather based powers I could suggest would be drizzle or mild winter. Not entirely sure they'd be that useful

Blizzard rocks. On my Ice/Elec Blaster Aim+BU+Blizzard+Blue Insp+Power Sink = lulz and hoping to it become mega-lulz when I get EMP Pulse

I remember the days where Blizzard was unaffected by damage boosts, unlike all other nukes. That was really really bad.

Nowaydays is great, it cant beat elec/nrg or fire nukes, but it does lovely damage, synergy great with snow storm. Although my feeling that my AR/ice does overall more damage with FullAuto. (slotted for range also).

Note, EMP is not that great though. The recharge is really long, it does do a great AoE stun but way too short (or u need monsterslotting). My ice/nrg can increase the duration with powerboost, makes it a bit more usefull.

Blizzard is made of win, and good. It is in my opinion the finest of the big blaster nukes (beaten by RoA and FA ever since IO's, but hey).

It's ranged. This means no running into the middle of a mob, risking getting stunned and looking quite silly in front of that superheroine you fancy!

It comes pre-packaged with some of the finest damage mitigation this side of wearing a paper bag on your head and yelling 'I can't see you so you can't see me'. Hugely effective knockdown (an afterpub favourite!), tohit debuff (an afterpub favourite!) and slows (a hangover favourite!) mean it's the safest of the nukes.

Great slotting potential - just like Vegas, you'll be addicted to playing with the slots once you hit 50. Massively versatile, with many aspects to its slotting, including (but not limited to) Hami-O mixes, Procs, mongrel/frankenslotting, up to full on purple sets. If you're really keen, you can probably even slot it with TO's. It's just that versatile.

And finally, it's great in summer. Icebox running low? Girls in bikinis overheating? Small children being set on fire by standing (or being held) too near to the barbecue? Not a worry. Just bring out your insta-blizzard for some memorable antics.

It's also good for confusing TV weathermen, making a mint in TV special effects, and freaking out anyone who's recently read Stephen King's 'The Mist'.

Elec has no nuke, it has a 16 target taunt.
