From experience - Ninjitsu!
It works a bit like Super Reflexes, a bit like Plant/Mind Control, a bit like Devices/traps, a bit like a Regen (the useful self-heal).
In short there is always something to back you up should plans go awry.
That said, when I dinged 50 with Ms Adams last year, I will never play another Stalker again!
Also, Dark Melee/Ninjitsu rawks! Negative energy being less-resisted Redside - or at least that's how it seemed to me when I played.

Negative Energy is less resisted than most other types in general, especially as nobody ever fights Circle of Thorns unless they absolutely have to.

Final Note: These Def Levels are only with 3x (Lvl 50) Def I/O's,
It should be possible to get the Def higher using set's and their set bonuses!
Hide supresses you know. Also 45% is the defence softcap.
Hide & Stealth both supress but you still get to keep a good % of their Def!
As for the softcap, I was talking maximum levels on an incomplete & I/O only build.
Note to others, just because this info shows over the softcap... in def not res, remember that a def debuff will lower your def by so many %, so overbuffing above cap helps compensate for the debuff loss.
Toy: Try it in oro with constant debuff on! Lolz.
Anyway...
All except psi mez(dominate) is calculated towards positions and as the postional defence is higher the typed defence is redundant.
You have vengeance running which isnt perma,shadow meld which isnt perma nor is the godmode.
And supressed with all those toggles you are not even at the softcap.
I know, but didn't you read the bits in my main post that said 'Incomplete' and 'Demo Build'?
Anyway...
I finished laying out my NB/Nin stalkers build last night and must say its looking nice. Above the defense softcap, defense debuff resistance could be higher but 40% is enough for me right now. There's some +stealth bonus, opted into the concealmeant set for stealth/invis for sneaking up on people and Intangable to get away (also slotted to recharge before it wears off).
On top of this I figured I'd use defense debuffing sets in some of my attacks, because some of my friends blue side like to slot ranged defense on their blasters/defenders (nice little suprise for them). There's a few things like blinding powder and -tohit that i'll be using on blasters, couple of chance on hits to -recharge, psi damge.
As for leveling it solo, yea its not easy atm as a level 15 but i'm getting there
Tbh stalkers nowadays either dual-AS in zonal PvP (dunno about arena) or hit and kite. I love my EM/Ninj' stalker, the only problem is in PvE I have an average 60% DEF, then in PvP due to PvP environment it plummets to around 32/36% which against blasters is not so perfect.
In my opinion, for the best stalker for PvP, depending your sets. You want the highest survivability and spike-damage you can get. My EM/Ninj' just AS's, placates and TF the squishys and generally only duel-AS blasters. For kiting I use hibernate or a panic button. Never liked 'Phase' cause you can get hit now.

Aye that is the annoying thing pvp zone's forcing defense to drop, and shame about phase. Imagine that was because people had screamed "OverPowered".
Someone was saying to me about getting intangable bonuses somehow, but i'm not really sure where he's gotten that from. I do find it quite backwards that a stealth class could be made so weak in a PvP situation, After all should we not be the one's dropping in behind the dangerous hero's and removing them?
I forgot to thank devs for 10 feet 1k crits. It's awesome, now they just need to alter attack vitals and i will dance like a merry little leprechaun and sing tales about the green isle.
My suggestion:
power or 1k for sweep ender and ablating, power, sweeping for attack vitals.
