Devices/Stealth question

Just a quick question i was wondering about, does time bomb and trip mine break stealth?
Meaning would it be possible to stealth into a mob (either through cloaking device or stealth pool power), drop a time bomb, go and hide then watch the fireworks?

Yup your correct It doesnt break stealth. I remember seeing a video of someone doing this on youtube against crey in brickstown.

Thats very cool then off to make a devices blaster lol.

That being said, another question comes to mind, what exactly is Assualt rifle good for?

I get it has a bonus to accuracy, but so does archery and that has a faster attack speed and more damage on its final move too.

Plus Full Auto takes 6 seconds to animate. if it was a strategic set i could understand, but other than ignite there seems to be no strategy to it.

Am i wrong?

Also would it work with cloaking device or would i defo need to take stealth or invisibility?

EDIT: Found that video you were talking about above, seems they use Cloaking Device but looking at Mids, Stealth gives a high stealth rating so i am going for that instead.

Assault Rifle isn't really that good compared to Archery. Ignite is great, but you need something to keep the enemy in it.

Cloaking device is as good as stealth, stealth-wise. And you don't get the movement penalty of normal Stealth. And if you get a +Stealth IO in your movement power, it is as good as invisibility, without the "unable to attack" thing.

A good rule of thumb is that if you have to choose between a pool power and a primary/secondary power that seem to be doing the same thing, the primary/secondary is a better version of it.

I sneak up on a mob and lay a trip mine down on them all the time with my Blaster I haven't tried it with time bomb though, so I can't advise you on that, sorry.

EDIT:

Forgot to mention... I also use smoke grenade when I do that, which lowers their perception. A nifty little power.

The stealth in Cloaking Device alone will not give you full invisibility, I suggest getting Superspeed and CD for full combat invis and a quick getaway after toe-bombing. Trip Mine and Time Bomb do not break stealth when you put them down, but when they go off your stealth does drop making it a good idea to either run after bombing or follow-up with a cone/AoE.

As for AR, it is a good cone set (Flamethrower/Full Auto/Buckshot, all with good recharge) and iirc, Full Auto does more damage than Rain of Arrows, plus it has a chance to do a small crit against enemies. A good tactic with AR/Dev would be to set a Trip Mine around a corner, Flamethrower a group of enemies then lead them into the mine/s for easy xp or drop a Time Bomb in the middle of a group and, if you can time it right, fire a cone/AoE into them when it goes off as Time Bomb does the same amount of damage as a regular Blaster nuke.

The main weakness is that it's mostly Lethal damage which is resisted by a lot of enemies although shouldn't slow you down that much plus redraw times with the gun/mines and, if you choose to use them, Caltrops and Tazer. Another problem is the lack of Build Up or Aim in an AR/Dev combo.

Hope that helped.

thanks a lot for all your help guys, defo seems worth trying out anyway most of my build at the minute seems situational though but it covers all the scenarios i can think of

Keeping it secret for now though

Something to bear in mind if you go the 'AR/Devices' route is that you miss out on both build up and aim. That's a very serious handicap compared to any other blaster. With devices you get a targetting drone which does absolutely nothing to make up the shortfall. It's a toggle which gets dropped at the faintest hint of a sleep or stun half a light year away.

Doesn't AR Snipe gain a bonus to Damage when paired with Devices Targetting Drone to make up for the lack of Build up and Aim? With properly slotted targeting drone you won't miss aim at all.

Don't know to be honest. My snipe still misses often enough to be annoying in spite a full set of IO's plus the drone. Plus of course other blasters can shoot off a whole chain of attacks before build up runs out.

My AR/Dev blaster is FAR more usable than it was just after ED. The IO's seem to have made a huge difference. Course they probably make other AT's even more powerful but at least it's fun to play again.
