Burrowing Travel Power

Im not sure if this has been suggested before but I think burrowing should be a Travel power, I think it should be like this:

Burrow (placate, +Regeneration, stealth)
You burrow under the earth to hide from your foes and get a quick breather, this power only lasts 10 seconds before you have to emerge again.

Earth Smash (Foe Knockback, smashing)
You dive under the earth and spring up before your foes, smashing them and sending them flying through the air

Tunnel (self +Spd, minor stealth, res all but psi, smashing and AoE)
You start to tunnel under the earth traveling at a faster rate, You can be spotted, but are resistant to all but psi, smashing and AoE, you cannot activate this power with any other travel power.

Siesmic Disturbance (PBAoE Knockdown)
You launch yourself under the earth and emerge very quickly. This causes a Siesmic disterbance that can knock your foes down from the constant Earth waves.

I think this would be easy to create using the animations that Redcaps have and by replacing your character with a Crack in the earth when burrowed, This travel power isnt as fast as superspeed, but gives you a good defence.

I like the general idea of "burrowing", but this part doesn't make sense to me.

I can't see that burrowing through the ground/concrete/asphalt/whatever could ever be quicker than surface travel, even in a superhero world.

As far as dev work is concerned, think of the issues with the hollows/skyway/faultline etc. Do you re-appear at a canyon or continue burrowing vertically.

I think something along these lines would be more suited to a powerset rather than travel pool personally.

Just my two cents/pennies/zimbabwian dollars

It an interesting suggestion but it appears less like a travel power and more part of a general powerset, possibly an APP even.

A placate for first power... umm no WITH +regen lol
earth smash seems ok but reminds me of the pokemon attack Dig :P
tunnel altho a good idea would not work with this games physics .... imagine doing it in a mission or summat where techniqually you would be on the floor underneath and like you can stand on things like signposts what would happen then?
siesmic disturbance would be good if all other problems listed above was solved

The idea of tunneling has arisen before. There is comic book precident for characters moving rapidly through the ground and popping up elsewhere. However I would make it like teleport, but with the start and end location having to be on the ground (with a much lower endurance cost to compensate for this restriction).

Yes, a placate/regen power available to anyone at level six is off the overpowered scale.

Like the idea of a ground only teleport - maybe with a longer delay and lower end cost.

Possibly you could actually travel as a "furrow" in the ground. This would have a +stealth and possibly +res (all) effect, as you are submerged, and a jump or power activation would bringyou back to earth . I actually see Burrow as a "slow but safe" travel power.

As for the rest of the pools, thats a bit more tricky...

1. Entrench. You embed yourself in the earth. You cannot move or jump whilst this toggle is active, but you are immune to knockback/down.
2. Submerge. A submerged character is very hard to spot and somewhat resistant to all damage. Any power activation or movement will cause you to spring out of the earth, breaking the submerge, and causing an AoE low damage smash attack on anything around you, with chance of knockback. A sumberged character who his hit or knockbacked/down/up will emerge without any such attack.
3. Burrow, as above
4. Tunnel: Like group fly, but burrow


I would have all burrow powers have a long animation,

My Initail idea was a teleport, but if it was aground teleport then people could asppear anywhere on a horizontal landscape, so I picked it to be manual travel where you can steer where you are going
