Hi all, i have recently come back to CoV after a few months break.

I have come back to play a brute, now i know i want to go with Super Strength but im not too sure about a secondary. Last night i made a SS / SR brute BRUIS3R. Got him up to lvl 12 last night with an awsome team but....

Im finding him a little bit week in the secondary. I have the first 4 SR powers 3 Slotted Defense but just doesnt seem to do mee to good. Im on malicious and struggling :O.

I was wondering if its just going to take some time to get into SR or if its a bit week overall.

Now im thinking that Elec would be the better choice im thinking either SR or Elec as i like the 20% recharge. I think i would prob have more fun with Elec as i like to be able to jump into a nice large group of foes and cripple them.

I like to PvP and i like to farm aswel. Want to stick with SS as i like RAGE

Any help would be so totally awsome lol

Thanks in advance, Jamie

For farming go with SS/Fire, for PvP play something else other than a Brute. Overall, I do not think you will do too badly with the SS/SR brute, as far as SR go, they mature into greatness with age. Stick with it see how it goes.

First of all welcome bk wondered wheere u went.

SR as a secondary is a good set, once aged. before that it can be a wee bit bumpy. farming i would also says /fire, dont go granite lol unless ur after the slowest farmer badge . erm willpower i have heard n seen is good. teasting one my self.

unless u like a good hard challenge. dont go dark armour. tht sets mroe for the master of brutes lol with its sadly unfortante weakness

hehe thanks

I guess i could stick with SR a bit longer, i can see it being pretty good in PvP. I want to be able to take down Elite Bosses and AV's solo may be with a Shivan to help.

I do like a challange but with somthing good at the end. Guessing i will make a farmer brute when i get this one to 50

Welcome back.

It wont be easy to play a SS/SR. The rage crash will hurt. EA and SR are hurt most by the -20% defense. SR is endurance heavy and you also lose a chunk of endurance when rage drops. If you get hasten as well thats another hit on your endurance when it crashes. Have them both crash at the same time midfight and you're in real trouble.

SS/WP are the farming Brute of choice in the US right now and seems to be a very powerful combo.

SS is such a strong set anyway it can be played with a defense secondary as long as you remain aware for the crashes and of course having some kind of endurance management power helps, which gives EA the advantage over SR for pairing with SS as it has 3 powers which help with your stamina.

For the record, they're looking into replacing the -def in Rage crashes with something that doesn't hurt some sets worse than others sometime in the near future.

Holding my breath for that one then, rage crash really does hurt on a def toon.

The OP made no reference to either PvP or farming so i shall assume neither and that this is a PvE toon, either solo or teamed. Personally I feel that elec is more fun as a secondary as SR is very passive. Elec is better earlier on but I guess with some +def from IO sets SR will be the tougher later on (esp against nasty dirty longbow nullies that eat my ss/elec for breakfast). It also has a better tier 9 - so it's swings and roundabouts really. There's probably more room for power pools in Elec too, as SR is a VERY tight build.

If you want something that has a little of both, go willpower, I can't stomach it personally but it's certainly very strong.

Bored at work - anyone feel like speculating what the new Rage Crash will bring us?

Seems we're keeping the 10 seconds of gimp-damage. This is fine as Rage gives us a 2 minute Build Up for ridiculous and stable damage output. The Crash seems a fair tradeoff in the form of a reverse-build up for 10 seconds.

Well, what else does Rage give? ToHit. A ToHit penalty might be harsh, though - they did remove the Only Affect Self partially (or completely?) so Tankers and Brutes can maintain agro during the Crash. Missing like a fresh alt would hurt that again. So I doubt it'll be that.

I recall an idea for -recovery which everyone hated, so it never got put in if I recall correctly.

The 15 seconds of no end recovery idea wasn't liked because it'll happen every 120 secs and so can add up over time. The rage crash can count against survivability and so worrying about that every 120 secs was also disliked. The poo damage for 10 secs might be worth extending to 15 secs and then the -def component dropped. It can effect survivability to self but not in the way most people I'd imagine would worry about.

SR brute?!

Thats what I call a contradiction of terms... like Microsoft Works, and Military Intelligence, they don't exist.

Go for Super Strength / Willpower

Take Tough as well to be only 5% short of the S/L Res an Invul would get.

Take Quick Recovery and Stamina, and with Rise to the Challenge stacking with Health, Fast Healing, Your Regen + Recovery will be more than a match for any Farm map.

PvP ~ Willpower holds its own and you won't get much better than Super Strength in Sirens or Warburg, It's also quite possible with Hasten to stack Rage.

Carlsberg don't do Farming,
But if they did..........

It's not as fun when you notice everyone and their mother has a SS/WP Brute as well, though. Last LRSF I was on had 3 SS/WP Brutes on it.

Haha, and I thought I was the only one I knew who played with an SS/SR brute. It's certainly different, though. Pretty weak until you get more powers, and you pretty much need to take your whole secondary. Hope it will be worth it at the end though.
