Fire/Dark?
You should be fine imo but as the powersets weren't essentially a meant to go together for Tankers (easier as Brutes imo). You may want to have 3 builds to level up with, respecing power order/choices as you go. Other than that, probably fine.

Hi,
You'll need to take all of your primary except,Temp Prot and Rise of the Pheonix. Some would say don't take burn as well, I'd take it though as it offers some additional damage and damage mitigation (as they run in and out of the patch they're not attacking).
6 Slot Healing Flames 3 heal, 3 recharge ASAP
In the secondary you could leave Taunt and use BA for that if you want.
Touch of Fear will improve your survivability.
In the pools, fighting is useful for Tough.
Jumping pool for acro (until you get some IO's)
Haste is a must for the recharge on Healing Flames.
Edit
As you have a damage buff and end drain in both primary and secondary you could choose just one of each.
DM gives the better buffs, so give those priority
Hope this helps

I was slightly puzzled by this, why have you got reservations on Fire/Dark?
To me the combo should work very well; Fire giving AoE damage that DM lacks and DM providing good ST damage and extra survivability.
I'm tempted to make one myself, would be good in teams or solo - should excel as a scranker.
I can see no reason for multiple builds either.
Thanks in advance for your reply

So far I'm finding Burning Aura too End heavy at the moment. Healing Flames is great. I've gone for Combat Jumping to add defense (?) and as travel pool. I tend to solo a lot so I'm not too concerned about taunt yet. I was going to ask about Fighting pool. Didn't need it on my Stone Tank, but Fire seems less protecty but more damagey.
Why not take Rise of the Phoenix? I thought it would be useful to self rez and get on with the fight?
I'm intrigued by Shannons 3 build idea. Do you have any suggestions or examples?

Combat jumping is a good choice as it give you immob resistance outside of burn as well as a small amount of defense.
I'd recommend the fighting pool if you team, for soloing its less important - I'd take if though.

Most people prefer to choose powers that help them survive in the first place. If you go with Acro and Tough it's a tight build so this usually gets dropped.

You really can not take Plasma shield at 49, its the mez protection vs Sleep and Hold
Weave isn't really going to be a great help (even with the acc debuffs of dark melee)
The beauty of fire/dark for me is that you can take dark consumption and consume
I personally wouldn't miss Midnight Grasp out, Its the most damaging power in the set
3 end red in a shield is pretty pointless, they would be better used in attacks
3 recharge in Rise of the Phoenix!!! I sincerely hope you aren't planning on dieing that much!
Combat Jumping is an exercise in wasted slots, the defbuffs are adding virtually nothing, and it is one of the cheapest toggles to run in the game
Blazing Aura will need at least one accuracy in it
Thanks for the advice.
Weave is a long way off, until I play more I am not sure what else to take.
OK, didn't read the description of Midnight Grasp, didn't realise it did damage.
Until I can be bothered to look at IO sets the End Red are placeholders.
I'd rather have RotP ready when needed than wait for 4 minutes in that crucial AV battle watching everybody else faceplant.
I was thinking of using CJ for set bonuses as well.

Sometimes in order to stay optimal for an intention its better to build one way until you can completely build into another and then respec.
Take my Elec/Elec. Whilst getting the pre-requisites for stamina I wouldn't be optimal, I would be optimal getting powers I could do with until I can actually take stamina and then respec the build. With so many vet reward respecs for me its an option.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
The more I think about the Fire/Dark combo for tankers, the more I like it.
Maybe could be worth to consider if this build could go WITHOUT Stamina.
With Consume and Dark Consumption well slotted you could have their recharge reduced to 90 seconds each, so a +End power every 45 seconds (more or less).
On the other hand, the combo Midnight Grasp (damage + inmob) and Burn could be useful. Pity Midnight Grasp is only mag 3...
And sure it will be easier to hit more foes with Soul Drain on a tank that can herd a bit than on a scrapper.
Also, with Healing Flames and Siphon Life, this tank will sure be hard to kill.
The more I think about it, the more synergies I see.
What Shannon said about having a different "leveling build" than "mid-levels build" than "final build" is a wise advice IMHO. Otherwise, the first 20-24 levels are a pain and very boring if you have to fit 3 powers for Fitness pool and 2 more for travel on a character with 12-14 powers.
I'm used to the first 20 odd levels being boring. I only managed to get over it last time by having a consistant partner.
No Stamina is almost a blasphemous thought. Might be worth a try though.
Synergies look good, but I was heading towards one or the other. First thought was why double up on a power when there are other things needed.
As I have no experience of either set it is nice to have input. I have already changed things from other posts in this thread.
So far I am leaving travel powers until the temp jump pack runs out. I am sort of working on a respec at 20 ish. Depends how it goes. Might try Siphon Life instead of health at 16.

I got a Fire/Dark Tank and I love it. Even with BA, PS & FS running, its rare I run out of end. I have Stam already and have also preplanned consumption and dark consumption, but this is purely because I plan to have a lot of toggles available if I need them.
I had a Fire/DM tank and he was real fun until lvl 32 when he got deleted (he was on second account and it was cancelled, but it was an account matter, not the toon's).
Had Weave planned on him because I was going t take his positional defences to around 25%, plus, once getting Tough, weave is not a hard choice to make.
To be honest, the Tanker was coming along better than I expected plus the combination of Healing Flames + Siphon Life was awesome. I'l try to post you my intended build (final, some respeccing while levelling required) in case it might be helpful for you.-

I love RotP - nobody intends dying, but for those occasions when you do invariably it is at the hands of several enemies who then loiter around your carcass. RotP has a good size blast and stun which will either kill off a few enemies or leave them stunned and staggering while you reboot your shields. Currently iirc mine is slotted with 2 Dmg, 2 Heal and 2 EndMod bu8t I am starting to slot it with the Purple Stun set when I get chance for the bonuses

Not entierly true. With debt reduced to poinlessness, being defeated, for someone with a self res, is Hibernate without the time limit.
As for RotP, slot it for damage, use it in conjunction with Self Destruct.
I really should do something about this signature.
Also true Praf - I sometimes do die intentionally either when things are looking bad - or just for the sheer fun of it - it can make a really good looking part of the fire tanks attack chain

Are you going for the HOs in the shields as they are a damn sight cheaper than Impervium armor or Titanium~?
Also the Touch of the Nictus set has a nice couple of bonus's. Might be worth considering those in siphon life.
This build was supposed to be pre I13, not gonna happen now with merits.
Basically the HO's were Cynic's advice, same resistance and save a lot of slots for other powers, helps a lot on Fiery Armor and Invuln chars, my other option was Titanium Coating for the +HP but needed an additional slot per res toggle to par with same resistance/endrdx than with HO's, although the third could be just a dmg res IO since the endrdx on the 3rd is close to nothing and save around 75 mill inf (heh, sets and HO's on Mid's are for free ).
Will check the Touch of the Nictus but I doubt I'll be tweaking my DM scrappers any further, hard enough to get a char full with sets for tweaking it every issue.
Went for Mako's to squeeze a bit more ranged def so it helps against psi damage which is mainly ranged, plus the two (one and a half) self heals used to keep this tank going, at least until lvl 32.
Aye my standard resistance choice is HOs to give me extra slots to play with as on the whole none of the resistance sets excite me. Can get more by adding to other powers normally (or at least in the case of my inv, not fully looked at setting up any other res based set, and now I never will)
"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"
It's a good move if you have them. I'll still get the Impervium armors on my DA toons, but might consider HOs for others.

As HO's shouldn't be much affected by Merits (you can't purchase them through merits if I am not wrong), they're now even better option for min/maxed builds, unless all people who rolled an HO before were doing it to avoid the crappy Pool C option and now instead of an HO they go for the Merits instead, but given the usefulness of HO's, I doubt everyone will do so.
I haven't seen any questions, help, guides for Fire/Dark tanks. I started one a short while ago and so far it is quite fun. My feelings might change after level 10 though.
Does anyone have any warnings or tips for me? I'm not new to tanks, but have no experience of Fire or /Dark.
