NEVAH
Rastus...i asked the same question when i joined the game so without digging up the thread i will give you the advice i was given, and let you know how i level my toons.
Get into 8 man teams, the xp comes quicker in big teams.
Make a team yourself, ok your a tank!! you will want some support(defenders) to keep you alive and debuff the enemy, you will need some damage (Blasters, scrappers) once you have these toons to complement your own you can pick and choose from who is availabe for your team. keep in mind that a good team can consist of any mixture of archtype...so mix and match is the best way to go.
When you are in a good team and everything is running smoothly up the the difficulty!! start fighting +3s
Certain villain types are easier to defeat than others, pick your missions accordingly.
When doing mission arcs remember that they sometimes send you between zones, if you want to level quickly it is a good option to do radio missions and keep in the same zone.
Now this is how would level a toon, there is no power leveling involved, just leveling as quickly as possible, doing it this way would proberly take you 120Hrs to get to 50, there are quicker ways...

And there are more exciting things to do than the 'quicker ways', I'd have thought. Like competitive toenail growing... or watching paint dry
Want to level a tank? As said above, team. Play the game. Enjoy the ride.

I agree with Canine - I have played with a couple of awesome teams these last two days with Peakey-Phoenix and managed to get from 32-36 in two days. 8 man teams, mixed AT's - the xp flies by! All teams I have jioned lately have been great fun - we have all had a laugh - chuckled over team wipes, dusted ourselves off and wiped again
Golden-Phoenix - Lvl 50 Fire/Fire Tank
Oodja Nikabolokov - Lvl 50 SS/WP Brute
Baby-Phoenix - Lvl 50 Peacebringer
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could Chuck Norris?
Peakey-Phoenix iiighs , my beloved Troller Lady, Atomic Speed here
OT. Best search you an sweet Kinetic Defender to speed Things up an little .
Maybe you also look out for an Tank with Invul or Stone and go deep in your Burn and Icepatch for Trolling between Tanking, i am sure that improves Speed alot.
Greetings Braddack

i take it you have a 50 or 2, didnt you want to level your first one quickly i know i did, it still took me 450hrs.
it always makes me smile when ppl say "enjoy the ride" the op is obviously enjoying the ride, he just likes faster ones!!
At least the op hasnt paid someone to level him and is asking for advice on how to speed up the process.
Hi ho, hi ho, its off to farm we go, with fulcrum shift and lots of imps, Hi ho, hi ho

I've got 10 50's at last count, not that it really counts for anything other than being able to reach into a bag of alts and pull one out to fit the situation, if a team stalls on something. (I've got one of each Hero AT (caveat, only a Warshade, no PB, I count WS and PB as the same AT - Kheldian) with enough diversity that I can bring out more or less anything required, from raw damage, to debuffs, to control, to buffs, to tanking.)
I haven't levelled like a frantic maniac on any of them (although the speed of levelling on my last scrapper was a little silly, but that was a combination of me not having scrapped seriously for about 2.5 years, getting into and enjoying playing the character, and double xp weekend for the last 4 levels).
My first 50 took something like 450 hours or thereabouts, IIRC. And I did my damnedest to do as many story arcs and read as much of the plot as possible. I've never been of the opinion that 50 is a destination you need to get to in as little time as possible. As I said above, enjoy the ride. Read the clues. Read the plotlines. Pay attention to WHY you're beating up several hundred mooks a day.
Also, I'm of the opinion that overly fast levelling doesn't give you the time to learn how to play your chosen AT/powersets. And the skillset required on a team is significantly different to that required solo.
Anything else is just a grind to me. And I don't like mindless grind.
But maybe I'm odd.
Anyway, I seem to have taken this thread off at a complete tangent. I'll depart, having said my piece (and probably a little more, besides)

Genius.
But here is an opinion that you may find helpful, if this is your first character, then level normally, team, have fun etc. However if you've an experienced veteran at the game and all you want to do is say, PvP. Then I would say it's alright to powerlevel.
Any other case? Level normally.
sorry about my previous post, i was drinking when i did that, and it wasnt very constructive.
In reply to rastus : I believe its a bad idea to powerlvl mate, and asking to be powerlvled whether you're a new player or not is a very fast way to end up on peoples ignore lists
There is alot of game content that makes COH intresting that you'll be missing when you PL, which really ruins the fun.
I would advise playing the game normally, teaming with as many people you're lvl as possible and soloing missions when no-one is about. Once you're well known within COH and have made lots of friends, you'll rarely stuggle to get a team. Teaming and socialising is what makes COH brilliant, and sitting there while some fire/kin or fire blaster or tanker or spines/dark (and whatever else people these days use) ruins that
i understand that it might be you're first lvl 50 and you want to get there asap, but then what will you do? you havent met very many people, made few friends etc
play it noramlly and make a 50 you can definitly be proud of
as peeople say "the first time is usually the best"
unless you're waxing, the first time it may hurt

We've all done it but listen to the advice of others. This game is all about the journey, not the destination. You'll find out quick enough that at 50 there's only so much content. Take your time, learn the game, learn the zones (they all have their unique aspects) and enjoy the game for what it is. Believe me, you're not gonna have MORE fun at 50 than you will at 25. You can have a great giggle at level 10 with Frostfire and a superlative struggle in Striga at 21.
Enjoy the game for itself not for what you think it should be
Thelonious Monk
There's nothing more useless than a tank that's had no experience in tanking because he/she has been powerlevelled.
Team lots with heroes of your level. Learn the strengths and weaknesses of your toon. Learn tanking strategies, how to use line of sight and how to manipulate the powers of your enemies so you can protect you team better (reading about them really isn't enough).
Levelling by teaming normally is more fun, more varied, you get to meet people and, if your good at it, build a reputation as a good tanker to team with.
i think it was just an unfortunate seelction of words - think he meant "power game" - very different from power LEVEL.
Most of it has already been said. just s few more bits of advice.
(1)gain expereince at tanking
(2)learn good tanking strategies - not all tanks play the same, and not all enemy grps respond the same
(3)earn a good reputation as a tank - u will find that on ur level 50 journey; u often gravitate to a core grp of regular players that have started the journey around the same time as u did. And if are r good - u will often end up having to refuse team invites?!
(4) remember - u are a tank; the safety of ur team is paramount. I often let the team I am leading know that I will be 1st one in and last one out; even if its via the hospital! When I say run - u guys run, I will fall b4 I let team die!
(5)survey ur battle field and use ur team status menu. DOnt just concentrate on the enemy in front of u. U need to know where every enemy is from the mob u just pulled. I often find myself turning round mid fight to look at whose where, and use the team status menu to target whom to taunt off a vulnerable squishy
the only other piece of advice i have is abt leading a team:
(1)build a team of ur own. nice balance is always good. U are a tank - u already have a good core for a team. Dont just pick the 1st 4 peeps u see; always try to get a nice balance. Tank (meat shield), defender/troller - damage mitigators, scrappers/blasters - damage dealers. yes yes - u can play with virtually any combo, but this is UR team; build it in a way u like.
(2)learn to use defenders to ur advantage - Empaths are NOT the only useful defender. I am happy to work with any defender worth his salt.
(3)u have to be ruthless when it comes to team management. I often give peeps several chances when on a team - but after some kindly advice and a few opportunities to learn, never be reluctant to kick someone from team who isnt pulling their weight.
(4)communicate - if u like herding, and team is ok with it - give clear instructions eg wait here - hearding, shout ready, all pile in.
If u want something done - look at ur members power list b4 aimlessly asking some1 to use a power they dont have. And again - if u want something done - be firm, eg Hero X21 - can u ghost to end and tp team in pls.
Another delay point - choosing mishes, u are the leader, be decisive, pick mishes - its not just the level, but difficulty ratings. Politely decline the lowbies on team who constantly whine - do my mish pls do my mish pls - unless its been like 2 hrs and u are feelin charitable!
(5) be flexible - some idiots sometimes never get wot herding is abt - u can still tank effectively in a charge strategy. but again, if it isnt fitting into ur plan - kick em if they arent listening.
(4)listen to advice from seniors/vets on team

He don't need to know that one as he is ice melee. Most of those "ppl" you refer to see icepatch and think its the only reason to herd (Herd as in group tight before any derail). So many other Tanker powers to my mind endorse it.
He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.
Plz could someone tell me the best way to lvl my fiery aura / ice melee tank?
thanks...
