That's true regarding people who can't make it regularly. It's going to be a rocky slope to begin with I feel, but interesting. Like a good wine, this is going to take some time to mature into something great, i feel 
Rated are incredibly unforgiving for casual players because of the Tactical Start and 20 minute time limit.
I'd say no to rated, especially for anything smaller than 4v4.
Tactical start really favours some builds more than slightly. I guess that's why its called tactical though cause you have to get around it

intresting idea and i have put it in the defiant events MOTD, gonna take alot of preperation but i'm sure you'll get there, and best of luck with it!

20 minutes. Tactical start. No plz. The rating I'm not bothered about, but Tactical start = the no fun button.
Why's it even called a tactical start? It's an unbalanced start.
If it's rated I'm bring a proper toon.
Then 'rated' is off the menu :P
Trying to keep this as casual and as fun as possible. As Hey Man said, it's in the MotD, which i take to mean that it's going ahead this tuesday. I'm calling this a dry run- testing out the mechanism before I start telling everyone 'Hey look, look what it can do everyone'. etc.
here are some final thoughts:
Each toon can only be in one team that evening.
Swapping toons in/out of a team, although each week is completely fine, is not permitted during the evening (so as to prevent, say, knowing the other team;s lineup and bringning in exaclty what you need to defeat them easily. Despite the poor explanation, It should promote fairness amongst the teams)
Method:
The teams are 3 v 3 (at least for this tuesday, the 'experiment). Either get your team ready beforehand and e-mail me the details ingame, or turn up on the night and PuG a team, and do the same.
Once all the teams have nominated a leader to e-mail me the lineup, i'll write the names down and the listings etc, and then e-mail *both* the leaders their line-up (i.e, who they;re facing first)
From here, i've little extra influence, the teams are then responsible for arranging their own match, so long as it's 'custom team battle' (or whatever it's called), and that it's fair. Once done, the leaders e-mail me the score, and i tally it up (Easy enough to check if the truth has been told)
I then e-mail their next match up. rince and repeat.
*hopefully* some fun will be had along the way :P
I'm so very worried that this doesn't sound alright, and that this logic is nothing but, ill-logic. Does this sound like something that would work?
Also: Level ranges. 40+ (50 preferred, but individual teams can exemp in their matches- though that does being up a certain debait on fairness...but i'm leaving that for now)

(ps. Think it would be a welcome idea to open a thread in the "pvp and arena' section where i can publish the listings? Would that upset anyone? I personally think that'd be a nice touch, but i'm unsure...)
So teams arrange the first fight for themselves and once you've tallied the scores you'll arange the further fights?
once they've been set up, yes. To ensure teams fight a varied spread of teams (and not the same one twice, if possible)
Maybe you should consider running a ladder rather than leagues? Personally Id be proper up for this type of event, not really got into PvP in the past, however Tuesday is about as bad a night as you can get for me. 
This could be fun, i might pop in with a non hardcore pvp too if rl allows me to

They're basically the same thing. A ladder system is any system of scoring people's ability based on their past performance. A league system is any system of sorting people into matches against people of similar ability, based on their past performance.
though, aren't leagues mutually exclusive of one another? Eg. like the Football league, where the top teams are given the chance to try out the league above them if they rank highly enough?
How does a ladder differ from this? Though I guess, in terms of what they try to achieve Miiru, i agree, more or less the same thing

Both terms only describe what they are trying to achieve - scoring or sorting based on how people have performed. There's any number of methods they can use to do that, they don't describe any particular set of rules.
I'd suggest keeping it as simple as possible.
I agree. Perhaps simply listing the teams, and their Wins, Loses, (draws) for now, so as not to overcomplicated things?
I have had exactly one PvP match, and managed to mash my opponent in the last five seconds for a single kill, after twenty minutes of him Superspeeding around and trying to hide because he'd made a ranked match without checking that Lord Khorak is in fact a tank, not a scrapper like him, and was functionally immune to his attacks. I considered managing to carve out that one kill a worthwhile punishment for boring the hell out of me.
I see no reason to give up my one hundred percent victory rate! I am the king of PvP! Rarrrrrrgh!

I don't think anyone should begrudge a prepared team. Takes time to build and level one tbh!
About the tiers and stuff. Just wondering how this is gonna pan out as some of the very very experienced guys don't play the game regulary so much for a while now. I'm wondering how they are going to be accounted for. I think you may find that you could underestimate people.
And ratings, I wonder if this might actually not attract new comers? Getting people into PvP is like breaching a certain benchmark often. Personally I'd cautiosuly suggest for others that rated matches might possibly raise that benchmark a bit?
Anyway, I'm just up for some fun battles, so will be there
