I'm not sure if this is "Creative"...
Quite a few people blog their character adventures, using Blogspot too.
You're not getting any commercial benefit from it, so it really probably just falls under the same kind of bracket as a fan site .

As I said in the subject line, I'm not sure if this is creative, plagerism, or just plain theft.
I've started keeping a blog for my hero, Liberty Belle, and am uing the story arc that I'm currently playing. Can I just check if it's OK?
Obviously if I'm breaching copyright or anything please tell me, and also any hints and tips for improvement will be gratefully received!
Thanks in advance for your help everyone!

There's already a DC hero called Liberty Belle:

Whoops!
Sorry CoX people, and thanks for the note Vox! I'm guessing not a lot of people know about the DC Character though as I've been using the name on various alts finding an AT that fits for about 2 1/2 years!
Gah, I suppose I'd best think of a new name. Hmmm...
I may have to start reading comic books (or graphic novels!) to make sure I don't make the same mistake again!
Oh, and thanks for the clarification Mighty!

I'm convinced that the majority of players in this game don't read comics, so I'm not surprised that nobody mentioned it.
She was mentioned in Infinite Crisis I think, I know that's where I saw the name first.
I keep coming up with names which are already used somewhere, it's annoying

There was also quite a famous B17 Flying Fortress named Liberty Belle (not to be confused with Memphis Belle) so there's clearly some leeway. Especially since the Liberty Bell is an historical item

IT would be almost impossible to trademark those names as a superhero so as long as his toon doesn't look like a rip of the DC toon he'll be fine
(ps I'm an avid comic fan but mostly Marvel & Indie stuff)

tell that to "Persil"

you're gonna have to explain that one Cass

Thelonious Monk
A player from the old days, character name of Persil, like the washing powder, and, dispite the lack of anything even vaguely resembling an infringement, other than the name that is, the character was genericed.
so some one that has a character that is a actual comic character too?
snowballs and hell come to mind.
Well Persil is a registered trade mark of course whereas the two examples I quoted cannot be trademarked.
But it's not my call

Thelonious Monk
yes, a hero called "Liberty Belle" is trade maked though, All comic characters have contextual TM's, and this is the same context.
But in this instance there are two clearly independant properties, DC & Charlton's version of Liberty Belle, based on an historical artifact that is embedded in American folklore. Therefore I would argue that very folklore makes the name Liberty Belle "open source"

Thelonious Monk
...you can argue what you like, but if you name a Super hero that, your infringing on the super hero that is already exists, irellivent of the back ground you give it.
like i said, if persil, which has nothing to do with the product, (which by the way is the french name for parsley) falls foul, how does this not?
I guess we can have a philosophical argument but at the end of the day it's down to NCSoft and frankly in their shoes I'd tend to take your point of view...

Thelonious Monk
I agree with Scarlet_Shocker. the Liberty Belle concept is taken from a common mythology, and something similar has come up in comics before, when a second comic company featured a hammer wielding superhero based on a figure from norse myth
