It is really strong. The great -res on primairy combined with devestating damage on your secondairies, works like a charm. /nrg and /elec are really high dmg melee range, each have a few extra tricks making it more fun. Sonic/ boost that damage even higher due each attack has -resist and the ranged stun synergise with your melee stuns.

Added, /nrg also has powerboost, wich doubles any stun/hold/sleep/drain/etc, works good with your ranged stun power of sonic.

You can basicly read up the guide section to any ice/nrg build, then replace the ice with sonic powers.

few randoms that i would recommend:
tier 1/2 (first 2 powers) of sonic
Shout, amplify, ranged stun, tier 9.
/nrg Bonesmasher, buildup, powerboost, totalfocus, optional conserve and boostrange (it doubles your range, 2 SO recharge makes it perma castable).

From Epic i would pick either force (PFF/TI/FoN) or ice (shield, snow storm, hibernate), they both work very well in PvP. For travel you can go for a combo hurdle (part of fitness), Combat jump, SJ and SS, its a overall mix of travel and attacking. Finish up with Aid self/Aid other.

Tier - the "number" of the power. So the first power you can select is Tier 1, the second Tier 2 and so on. Tier 9 is the final power in your primary/secondary.

PFF - Personal Force Field - shared with Defenders, Controllers and Masterminds with the Force Field powerset. Huge +Defense, can only affect self.

TI - Temp Invulnerability - shared with Tankers, Brutes and Scrappers with the Invulnerability powerset, as well as Defenders and Controllers in the Ancillary ("Epic") Pools. +Resistance to Smashing and Lethal damage.

FoN - Force of Nature - A "god mode" that grants large resists to all damage except Psionic. Similar to Unstoppable, also from the Invulnerability powerset, but without the Mes resistance.

Oops, my fault (im hanging around here for 3 years, so got used to the wordings).

Each side (primairy/secondairy) has 9 powers. Each of these is called a Tier, thus Tier 1 to 9. For blasters Tier 9 is a nuke, like Nova, Blizzard etc the final power of your set. Tier 1/2 are the first 2 selectable powers when you create your character. Fast and decent damage powers always great to have.

The Epic pool is a powerpool wich you unlock at lvl41. You can only pick 1 pool, and these all are pretty unique to their AT. Blaster can pick from several pools, each have a few nice tricks or extra support.

Electricity,
-ranged Hold
-Cone attack
-SL/nrg resist shield
-super-mini nuke with a massive drain and stun ability.

Fire,
-ranged Hold,
-SL/fire resist shield,
-droppable Knockback fireball (Bonfire)
-A Self Rez power
.
Ice,
-SL-defence shield
-targeted AoE sleep power
-debuff-toggle that debuffs target-around massive on -recharge/-slow
-Hibernate (30sec you go into a solid block of ice, immume to any attack and regen massive on endurance and HP).

Munition,
-ranged hold,
-always active SL shield
-ranged AoE sleep
-LRM Missile (AoE snipe shot).
Only good For AR, since it uses a gun.

Force,
-PFF (Personal Force Field - you create a bubble around you, cant attack but you gain massive resist and really high defence)
-a KB bubble (uses endurance each time a mob gets repeled back – huge waste)
-TI (Temporary invunerbility - a SL-resist shield)
-FoN (Force of Nature - for 2 minutes you gain high resist to all except Psionic and gain a high recovery rate on endurance, loose all endurance when crash).

(SL stand for Smashing and Lethal).

When you respec your character, you can repick the epic pool, yet you can only pick 1.

Thankyou guys appreaciate it so the one you would recommend is force for PVE and PVP? as you say its really helpful plus i hear blasters are also for buffing in parties?

Nope, Defenders (and to an extent, Controllers) are the "buffer" class. Blasters and Defenders share the ranged blast sets, however, so they are similar.

they all look so helpful but what would you recommend for a sonic /energy build?

And no, force is not the best set for PvE and PvP. For PvE I'd go fire, force or elec, for PvP i'd deffo go Ice, mainly on an /nrg blaster.

Ok thanks very much guys i think i am sorted now. I wouldnt mind if there is anymore info on the ice power pool if thats ok

Someone mention sonic/em ?

Its a great combo of powersets, my first character was a sonic/em blaster and he works well in pve and fairly well in pvp.

As powersets go Sonic has some powers that are fairly situational, a cone sleep attack, and a cone knockback power.
I find both are amasing tools in pve as they allow some control of mobs and can provide valuable "breathing" space if soloing.
But in teams with a lot of "area of effect" powers the sleep is pretty much useless, and teams which like their herding tend to ask for the Knockback power to not be used too.

The key powers for me though I guess would have to be:

The first two basic sonic attacks.
Shout--The high damage short range attack, very nice power.
Screech-- The high power but low damage stun/dissorient attack.

Combine these with the high damage/stun attacks of the energy manipulation set and you can keep Elite bosses chain stunned.

But....
Sonic has no long range "Snipe attack" power, like other sets, and sometimes that extra range and high damage attack can be usefull.

Ah thats one of those /em powers I have not got on my build, though I was thinking about dropping my epic powers for the few /em I never took.

Ice is the most used epics on blasters for PvP these days.
As all the other epic sets, it priovides 4 possible powers, which are:

Snow Storm. A toggle that dramatically slows down the target and all the baddies surrounding him. It's a superb power power for PvP since it's -fly, -50% run speed, -50% recharge and -50% jump height. Combined with powerboost (available for /nrg blasters) the -rech and -speed is capped (cap is -90%, iirc).

Flash Freeze. An AoE sleep, not really useful, I'd skip this one.

Frozen Armor. The epic shield. I don't like much the fact that it's def based, instead of res (well it does grant some res, but only to fire and ice). Good thing is you can slot a LoTG on it, tho, even a kismet if you haven't placed it on cj alreaady.

Hibernate. A panic button life saviour. You can use it to replenish ur hp and/or endurance completelly. Pretty good as it's up quick quicly after some slotting up. Quick animation and uninterrumpible

Although PB doesn't affect the -rechg.
