Aquatic Characters

Hey folks. I know the game doesn't allow for or enable us to play Aquatic characters, but would it be possible to RP one within the existing mechanics?

I think it would be, just look at Captain Mako. The Force Field and Energy pools could easily be simulated as "Water Control" too, I think, so theres plenty of possibilities out there. Also, if they can only breathe water, there are several breathing apparatus costume thingies.

I have an idea for a character based on a Scottish mythological creature that is aquatic but quite capable of living out of water too. Just wondered. Considered a FF/ defender or a Scrapper

Who'd -want- to be Aquaman?! He sucks! Well, apart from the DCAU version, I mean, he cut his own freaking hand off to save his kid!

As for fins, there's a certain type of foot and hand you can use that look like they have fins, kinda.

I would have thought one of those would be a mind or illusion controller if it's the one I'm thinking of.

It is a shame there aren't more aquatic adventures to be had in the city but then I'm sure it would need more coding to include things like drowning etc. For costume parts, the reptillian textures can look like fish scales if you get the colours right.

I happen to like Aquaman, now Namor I truly hate, loved it when Aquaman won in his vs. with Namor by dropping a whale on him.

Which one you thinking of, Dante?

As for his look, I don't want an inhuman monster lol I'm thinking more a Changeling - half human half sidhe. Thinking light blue skin, white/green hair, spiked hands and rough leather with the scale pattern to simulate fiss skin-leather leggings.

As would the normal DCU version till they ruined him and replaced him with a boring, weakassed, self important upstart.

Aquaman, when written by PAD or Dan Jurgens was an AWESOME character. Tragic, heroic, funny, arrogant, regal and barbaric all in one noble fish talking package

I was thinking of a Selkie myself.

Still I think what you're proposing for a costume could work well. I'd have a play around myself but thanks to Sky, I'm offline... Grr...

Twas thinking of Abe Sapien personally.

/em,signed for Aquatic costume options...even better - the powerset to go along with it.

Actually my intent was to play him as the child of a union between a Merrow (Scottish merfolk) and a fisherman. RP wise he'd refer to himself as Coune McRae, the name of his father but he'd learn his deceased mother's nature as Merrow and adopt it as his "hero" name.

Rumour always had it that Statesman's favourite character was Submariner (though why that should be I have not the faintest idea).

Rumours also said that the appearance of so many docks, submarines, and large bodies of water was for a "one day..." plan to introduce underwater areas and missions.

Personally, I think the idea is about as great as casting Patrick Duffy as The Man From Atlantis, and found Prince Namor about as thrilling as watching the laundry go round in a tumble-drier. Judging from the dedicated fans of both the things I mentioned (few and far between) I think there's a lot better things to work on.

Of course, RP characters don't need to wait for water powers, as we have a lot of aliens without needing outer-space missions, phaser rifles, or green tentacles. If there's an idea that interests you in an aquatic character, then there are certainly plenty of options.

Spines Scrappers could certainly work, as well as the controller types mentioned, and Ice (blasts or control) could also work well, plus of course that super-strength works for any location, as does invulnerability, and there's no reason any powers really can't be adapted.

Heck, even Fiery powers can work, with the character choosing to interact on land after discovering that his powers to shoot steam work a whole lot more spectacularly out of water...

Namor or Aquaman...

Aquatic characters have some things in common...

- Great strength and durability due to living at great depths (pressure)
- Great speed for same reasons
- Superjump can be included

If you must have water control.. the forcefields are close enough. But the above powers are more then enough to become one I think.

Both Aquaman and Namor have a low level psi-control (over animal life).

Yeah I heard of that as well, which explains why I find Statesman (the character) such an atrocious pompous [censored].

Energy blasts have an aquatic feel to them and Gravity Control - well, that pretty much lends itself to the underwater pressure thing.

Force Fields, Empathy, Psi Blasts, Radiation Blasts, Storm Summoning and Ice also can have an aquatic feel.

And if you need a villainous arch-nemesis, then just power level any villain with suitable powers and choose Mako's Patron pool - Electric Brutes may find underwater problematic - although an Electric Eel style character... hmmm *runs off to consider this*
