Lmited to 2 by 2 at start?
Yes, you need to buy more rooms 1st. It's not that restrictive - between lvl 10 and 20 I got enough inf together to get an oversight center, combo unit, med bay, reclimator, teleporter room and a telepad.

Kerensky: this has nothing to do with underwear
Zwillinger: I put on my robe and wizard hat...
Synapse: I had to resist starting my last post off with "Yo dawg!"
Indeed.
Check under "control" and you'll find an Oversight room. this costs 50,000 and is 3x3 large.
Some searching will get you some more 50k rooms of 1x2 and 2x2 size.
These are startup rooms, but will do well for decorative functions. Making all but the larger decorative rooms obsolete for their 150k.

Don't bother with a bedroom - there's no suitable furniture for it

actually... the rustic bed makes for a ... decent enough looking double bed... so long as you ignore/fudge/gloss-over the restraints and the stains...
I've made many a decent apartment in a 2x2 room, complete with kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and lounge, often with a utility closet too.
I should clarify... it's a 2x2 room that is NOT the entrance, as the Portal makes that a bit hard.... it's still doable though.

It's possible

No, really, it is - try putting that "bed" in any normal looking base, and it sticks out like a sore thumb - it doesn't match any of the clean, modern styles, or even fit very well with the arcane ones.
The only style it can blend with is the sewer one, which is way too limited for something as basic as a bed.

define 'normal looking'
Would it be anything like...
This?
Or this?
Or perhaps this?
Maybe something like this? (this last one was 'build' by Zortel)

It looks awful beside those nice, clean, normal wood fiitting
The colors don't match the surrondings at all.

Not everyone lives in a show house with every piece of furniture precisely matching every other.
I have dark wood furniture, a black metal bed, and built in wardrobes with white doors in my bedroom... oh and a light green bookcase, I think it looks fine.
Your bed is dirty, stained and has straps on it? if not, then that's not really a valid argument

To be honest, if I was invited to someone's home and saw a bed like that, I'd be out the bloody window sharpish and dialling 999 on my mobile before my feet hit the ground. I mean, what are we talking here? Furniture by IKEA and bed by Dr Vahzilok? Who knows what could be hanging in the wardrobes!
I like to know that when I take a pair of socks out of the drawer there won't be someone else's feet already in them!

I pity your will power.. or my eye sight...
I'd actually like to see what you've done with your base. Is it just the straight "use items for what they're intened" or if it has some "if I use it like this, it has an other (decorative) function" like I do in my bases.
Bookshelves become walls, tall cupboards aranged in two colours makes a set a fridge while the others remain cupboards.
A white board or a painting becomes a mirror. A throne or rustic chair becomes the toilet.

I've not made my bedroom yet, as there is no suitable bed - when they provide one, I'll add a bedroom to my base.
Same goes for a kitchen - you can make benches and cupboards, but you need appliances to make it look right.

What about a TV?
Do you have one in your base? Or do you not use one because what is shown on them isn't what you'd look at?

Why would I have them in my base, I don't have any on my counters at home?
Designed this in a few seconds in a spare corner (actually one of my hallways ). I think it gets round the straps/stains problem.

I have a character with a solo for now supergroup base to play around with base building.
I have an 8 by 8 plot, but only a 2 by 2 room.
Thats all it will let me play with.
Are you limited to that single 2 by 2 space until you get the masses of prestige needed for other rooms?
Or are you supposed to be able to use up the whole 8 by 8 for empty living rooms?
(i.e. able to add a living quarters and other none specialist rooms).
Seems a bit restrictive to be stuck in a 2 by 2 room until you gain another 150,000 prestige or so for a bedroom
