MA or Katana?

Well you're wrong, but I will forgive you this time.

My latest project is a DM/Inv, so my opinions on DM may change...

Posted

Actually I have been thinking for a while about a Dm/Inv but I have too many toons going on atm. It can be a good combo since Inv defense is not bad and can be decently increased.

While I think Inv is the weakest secondary, it's the only one I've not played to a high level and I think that the heal in DM will help increase survivability (as an over-time regen rather than a heal when health is low) and that combined with the -acc of DM should make it decent. Hopefully.

I have played all of the others to high level too, Inv I only got to L26. I may give it another go (though with claws) as I think Inv benefits a lot from the Invention system and is really a late developer

Invuln is great, with Dull pain and Siphon Life it should be quite survivable, and it is very much a late developer. basially it takes you until you get Invinciblity well slotted to be really survivable.

I agree with you on Inv being the weakest secondary. I think it is, don't know how to properly say it in English, somehow unbalanced, let me explain myself, until the mid 30's, you breeze through lvls with an Inv (at least I did with my Katana/Inv), then, when toxic, end sapping and specially psi dmg start to show up, you find yourself munching carpet quite a lot.
I also wanted to try a DM/INV, I think it may have decent sinergy, although I already have 3 DM scrappers, so probably I will give a go at a MA/INV and try focuse maximixing accuracy and recharge.
Not going for a BS/INV since I think it will be too similar to my KAT/INV, yes, more dmg and stuff, but too similar anyway.

Ma, ftw

Yes, it has weaknesses, and those weaknesses can't be counteracted by, say, aid self like a SR can, but it has IMO the best tier 38 power (and the worst crash for it's troubles too), but for sheer survivability among most mob types I'd put my Invuln up against any other scrapper primary.

There's been times when I'm the only one standing with other scrappers in the team, and have come out the other side still standing. There's also been times when I've been the first one down mind you. Siege's map comes to mind.

Currently my main is a lvl 42 BS/SR scrapper (Hand of Battle, wave if you see me)

She has all the secondaries from SR and five attacks: Parry, Hack, Disembowel, Slice, Headsplitter. Plus the ubiquitous Build Up, of course.

With much experimentation, I've found I don't usually need more attacks than she has, and it's always fun to one-shot two or three minion - Lt level enemies with a well-placed Headsplit. It does suffer from recharge rates, sure, but take Hasten and you'll drop that problem like a large heavy object. Also, when you get Quickness, all your powers get a tasty 20% recharge rate increase. This fact has meant that only the Disembowel power needed a recharge enhancement. Every other attack aside from Build Up and Practiced Brawler didn't really need it.

I find that most mobs when solo don't last beyond one or two chains, and when teaming everything is defeated in much the same time with a competant team.

I also have a Kat/ scrapper, and a MA/ one, but it's always the broadsword I come back to when I need to hear a satisfyingly crunchy sound effect, especially when it hits more than one foe at a time.

Guys, you're all avoided the plainly obvious answer to his question. Broadsword!

[/ QUOTE ]

Ah, Broadsword. Great team that I have with a friend is a BS/ and a Kat/. Broadsword totally smashes them out the window but has problems with its recharge. Katana picks up the ends with its fast recharge and slightly less damage. (Ok a bit less damage)

And with bosses you have 4 attacks which have high chances to knock down which can be a god send for those hard hitters.

Only problem is when you find duoing invincible missions so easy that its boring.

Having just picked up Soaring Dragon, I giggled for a good 30 minutes during the Moonfire TF - it's just so cool!

The little spin is just so COOL! Golden Dragonfly may do damage but Soaring Dragon for looks!

On topic, I like katana best. I find it hard to choose scrapper sets though... they all rock in there own little ways. I want 30 slots for scrappers alone!

I have purposely saved 2 slots on Defiant just for a new scrapper primary that'll hopefully come in issue 11.

Yep, I am eagerly awaiting the new Scrapper primary...and hopefully there will be a new Secondary too.

One of each would be ace. I've tried Katana, have a claws slowly levelling up, a Broadsword at lvl 50 and a DM lvl 50 Brute. Spines and me never got along, although I was told it's very much a late blossomer.

SR I tried in beta and again with Spines, could say I've never given it a proper chance I suppose but I've also got an Energy Aura brute and I'd imagine they're broadly similar. Invuln I've tried and loved, Regen just didn't work for me at all and my Scrapper I'm levelling up is /DA.

Mmmm, Bo staff wasn't listed in the poll iirc, was it? Would be good though, although I am all for ball and chain.-

Enough with the drawn weapons already >_<

Energy blade, as long as they don't rip of ANY animations from BS or katana and I'd be there in a flash. Also Dual blades could be fun. Perhaps dual energy blades?

But why do you want *another* sword? Why do you want *more* Lethal damage? Rad Melee - it's the way forward.

What was the set listed in the poll apart from the lightsaber wannabe and the potentially awful "shield"?

I love my claws/invulnerable scrapper (far more than my MA/regen) im even experimenting with tanking using corner pulls with the aoe taunt in pesence pool and and the point blank aoe fear when the mobs get to me, that way I get massive buffs to accuracy and defence with nothing trying to hit me (all feared). Focus and air supp to keep the boss knocked down till dead, mop up minions with eviscerate.
The set bonus from Glimpse of the Abbyss is really handy too.
