I've started this fun new alt and i love him to bits but wondered if anyone can give general opinions regarding the Psi aoe attacks. I think i already know what I'm going for - was just curious to see what peoples experience of them were.

Psychic Scream is rubbish, very low damage and slight too long activation, but it's the only AoE you get 'til 38, so it might be worth taking early and respecing out later.

Psychic Shockwave, on the other hand, is fantastic, and once you have it you just wont use any other attacks.

Shockwave at 38, has a great big nerf target attatched to it (it wont be, but it should be!). It does more damage than anything bar my melee attack, recharges quickly, is a large AoE.. AND does stuns...

err.... right... thats blanced.... *whistles tunelessly*

I think the reason Psychic Scream is dismissed is its sooo bad compared to Shockwave.. but thats only 'cos Shockwave is so gooood.

Psychic scream is what an AoE should be... lowish damage, reasonable recharge, longish animation. Bear in mind psi damage is the least resisted damage in the game.

If you team (and as a dominator, you should), I wouldnt miss either and slot them both up to the max.

I'd take the AOE and perhaps respec out later when you've completed your build.

For particular use with Seeds Of Confusion if nothing else.

You want to open up with Seeds, Immob the lot then blast them all for some damage with anything you have AOE wise. This will pretty much allocate all the damage you want to net the xp from the mob very quickly as they turn on each other and do most of the work for you.

Not tried Psychic Scream yet. If it's got comparable range and cone to Fling Thorns you're pretty much set up for the whole lot in one quick chain from being in range to hit Seeds.

If you're worried about missing some with Seeds' and taking some aggro, use 'Creepers to open and tank all the alpha aggro.

Mind I've never had any problem with Seeds accuracy slotted adequately.

That's the SOP for my Plant/Thorns which went Seeds' > Roots > Fling Thorns. It gets better when you get Chompy, the Flytrap who spits cones of Fling Thorns itself almost any chance it gets.
You'll be eating mobs wholesale very quickly and can tank mob aggro better than any Brutes .

Team big for big mobs and wreak havok .

I have an Ice/Psi started and really look forward to 'Shockwave after hearing about it so much .

Nope, don't think so

I think there's enough Dominator ex-Brutes who know otherwise . Enough that given the choice facing a full mob of +conning Longbow, I know plenty would rather send their Dominator in first anytime over their Brute.

Carrion Creepers, or limited resistance (often debuffed) armours... I know what I'd prefer.

Thats just a specific mobs. Nullifiers are infamously ruthless in their massive -res and toggle dropping. Brutes can keep the agro and can think properly selecting the right targets -provided they know what they are doing. Creepers don't, they are silly and attack indiscriminatly, loose agro. Thou they are good for opening to take alpha and diversion.
No doubt creepers are an absolutely awesome power. One of my personal favs of the game. And almost a reason to roll me yet another plant domi (and seeds!! )

Well that's it isn't it. Finding a Brute that knows what it's doing.

I don't have enough fingers or toes to count the number of times a Brute has proclaimed it will tank and then careered off herding far too much than it can handle or simply facedived from an alpha to the tune of "[censored]!!1!" .

I have more fingers than I've seen Brutes with Taunt. Which is no bad thing, but kind of odd from "tanking" Brutes?

Brutes or MM pets taking the alpha is all you really want as far as "tanking" goes if you have some form of reliable AoE control.
