Now, not saying we should have speed dating

We've already done speed dating, it was called GG. Your idea sounds way more interesting.

i like the idea a lot actually, sounds good fun for a night just to meet some of the other characters out there =D
i think i would probably head down on Soph if something was organised, or maybe even Stal or Gen if i feel like it...
Hmm.. Interesting idea Z! Count me in!
@FloatingFatMan
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Unique-e-ness! i might join aswell!
Oooh... This gets my vote.
Gives me a chance to bring along one of my reserve RP toons (given that Shadowe is kind of attached and Samantha is in a stable relationship).
Yay!
The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*
I might join in, although I would have no idea what to do
It would also give me a chance to bring Solar out of his hidey hole for once.
This sounds like fun. I know one Banshee who would probably welcome a speed dating evening.

What to do... okay, let's borrow Jane and Nene to demonstrate!
*The bell rings, signifying for people to swap who they're talking two. Jane approaches Nene with a smile.*
Jane Darc: Hey there, nice to meet you. I'm Jane Darc.
Nene Ninnezt: Hello Jane, I am Nene Ninnezt.
Jane: So, how're you finding tonight?
Nene: It is rather interesting, I have met several people that seem rather nice.
Jane: Cool, cool, so, what do you do then?
Nene: Apart from working in a cafe in Atlas Park, I do some hero work. And yourself?
Jane: Ghostbuster, Parapsychologist, mediator to the living impaired. Oh, I GM at the Wizard's Well in Galaxy City on a Thursday.
Nene: GM?
Jane: Yeah, roleplaying games and the like. It's cool.
Nene: I see... so I take it roleplaying interests you?
Jane: It does, it's a great laugh. What kind of things do you like then?
Nene: Well, I enjoy socializing with others, and a wide variety of music.
*Things continue like this till the bell rings*
Jane: Well, that's all we have time for, was nice chatting to you Nene.
Nene: And to you, Jane. Take care.
*The pair move off to find someone else to talk to.*
Sounds interesting.
Sounds like fun, can come on a completely unknown toon for this..
I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.
Union EU player! Pip pip, tally ho, top hats and tea etc etc
Speed meeting, not dating. Of course, if two characters hit it off and it develops further, that's fine, but the purpose is to help people find others to chat and drink with, or even team with.
When you gonna hold it?
Sounds good- people do tend to settle into small cliques and not mingle with "outsiders", this has the potential to shake the established groups up a bit. You'd have to allow a little more time than is normal with these things for each pairing, to allow for the fact that some people type slowly, but other than that- even if it turns out to be a disaster I'm sure it will be a memorable one.
Hmm... 10-15 minutes, say? I'm leaning towards 15 if there's a smaller amount of people, and 10 if there's a larger group, letting you fit more interaction with others in if there's more people. And aye, that's one point, the other points are that some players/characters might find it hard to approach others, this gives them an oppertunity to build up who they know and more easily get into conversations.
As for when, hmm... I'm not too sure. Where, the main dancefloor of Pocket D seems like the best area. Possibly next week, or the week after.
I'll be keeping an eye on this and swing buy if I can. One question:
When I first read the thread I thought it was "speed meeting" characters. Now I see it's speed meeting players. That's awesome. Particularly because I have issues finding people who roleplay in-game. I mean, it's one thing to have a serious roleplay in Pocket D or on a stormy rooftop, but it's another to keep roleplaying when Hellions are setting you on fire. For me, that's where it's at.

Edit: That wasn't a question. Oops.
*remembers the time Molok was playing matchmaker and winces*
Sounds fun ^_^
might have to have a few cause of us people who are horrible altaholics

No, it's speed meeting characters. If it was speed meeting players, this post wouldn't be in roleplaying.
Though, of course, you will be meeting other roleplayers by virtue of the fact that they tend to get dragged along by their characters.

:relief:
The Jane & Nene example just threw me because they started talking about roleplaying and GM's, that's all. I don't play CoH (only CoV) so I didn't realize that Wizard's Well/Galaxy was a place in-game. The line between character/player just seemed to blur and I wasn't sure what side was coming up where. Sorry about the confusion.
Btw if I only have villains, is it still worthwhile to show up?

Albeit sometimes reluctantly...

I'd almost certainly bring Enherezza along because it'll be a total laugh seeing the reactions. She's a Stalker.
However, if you're looking for people to roleplay with over in the Rogue Isles rather than just in Pocket D... that'll depend on whether some of the SG roleplayers and similar think this might be a good way to 'recruit' new members. This kind of more 'social' roleplay is far more common on the hero side.

Ahhh, yes. Sorry about that! Indeed, in CoH there's a chain of gaming stores called the Wizard's Well, and Jane, being the geek that she is (Much to the dispair of her boyfriend), GM's several games there.
And yes, you can bring villains, as long as they're sociable and won't start talking about who they eviscerated that day.

Darn! Oh no, hang on, Enny doesn't actually eviscerate people, so that's probably okay.

Firstly, have we all heard of speed dating? For those that haven't, here's a brief description from Wikipedia:
[ QUOTE ]
Men and women are rotated to meet each other over a series of short "dates", usually lasting from 3 to 8 minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end of each interval, the organizer rings a bell or clinks a glass to signal the participants to move on to the next date. At the end of the event participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to. If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to both parties. Contact information cannot be traded during the initial meeting, in order to reduce pressure (especially on women) to accept or reject a suitor to their face.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now, not saying we should have speed dating, but I was more thinking along these lines: A speed meet in Pocket D, where characters can chat to other characters for a brief period of time, then head off to speak to someone else after the time is up, in order to make new friends, comrades and heck, even just drinking buddies for after a long day.
Say Person A attends and speaks to Person C, D, H and I, Person A might think Person D and I are interesting, and afterwards decides to speak to them more, while finding Person C isn't the kind they hang about with, so don't.
If that makes sense.
It'd probably be arranged IC by Number Nine, or by Alraune, though I'm still pondering upon the way it'll be carried out, whether it will be random mingling or some kind of lottery to determine who talks to who.
