OMG!!!

Anyone found the link to that post? I want to know if it is one of the stories I know or if it is [censored], but my search-fu on rpg.net sucks.

I would take garlic - if they're that involved in their RP, it will work wonders

Apart from the fact Garlic doesn't work against Vampires? [In RP Terms](Apart from the ones with Conspicuous Consumption or Anachronistic Flaws?)

Ah, but wooden stakes apparently work against Slobodan Milosovic.

Since he hasn't risen as a vampire yet, we assume.

I think at this point I'll draw your attention to this thread on rpg.net. Man, if you've never roleplayed before, this will surely put you off trying it

[/ QUOTE ]

Because no-one in RPG circles ever exaggerates about stories...

Ever

No.No.No.

It's near the bottom, just search the page for Brazil.

If memory serves, the search function on that site has been disabled *boggle* However, as luck would have it, I had the good sense to copy that story, so I can PM you it if you like (until some poor soul actually finds the post - I've read the thread through once, I have NO WISH to do so again

Edit: Or, follow FFMs link - cheers man

Oh, I'm sure many of those tales are. However, I guarantee some of them aren't, and that is scary enough....

My armed response tale is not, incidentally

Neither's mine

Or the guy who waved his replica gun at the fully armed police saying "It's not real."

Anyway, half these creepy people don't sound half as creepy as people I've played with I thought they'd be actually scary.

And people wonder why I get upset with the media...

He's a prat, just because he may play D&D does not make it responsible for him.

Grief.

Does American Football get blamed for turning O.J.Simpson into an alleged killer?
Does Boxing get blamed for Tyson?

Read the editorials on THIS site then. Maybe not scary in a 'that guys pointing a gun at me' way, but if I was in many of those situations, I'd definitely be afraid....

Edit: Made link more direct.

Don't take this too seriously man - its taken from a show called 'Reno 911'. Its not hugely popular in the UK, as its only seen air time on the FX channel (179 if you have Sky). I thought it was quite well done to be honest, but then, I knew it wasn't really.

WoW!!!! Just wow! that is a new one.

I do not know if the story is true or not, but the characters do seem real. At least they look like Brazilian corrupt cops. Although a mouth full of golden teeth is something I never saw anyone using on the last 15 years. But the booze, prostitutes and guns part is possible.

Man. I would be scared to death. Hope not literally.

Still quite tame

Nah, I'm just incensed at how 'minority' pursuits are seen as the "DEVIL'S TOOLS"; whilst more violent pursuits are seen as clean and wholesome.

{edit: Actually Biff Ban's sanity rules did squeek me out a bit...)

I can't be bothered reading the whole thread. Hey, I'm evil. That's one of the funniest things I've read all week.

Not even live action RP!

P.S. Sausagemaster, are you from Bradford? Your live action vampire story sounds very familier, or does all live action vampire involve police armed response?

Nope. Sometimes wish I was though, there's a hardcore gathering of Call of Cthulhu players in Bradford (Paul of Cthulhu of YSDC fame), but then I remember.... It's Bradford

So I guess it IS similar to many other Live Vampire games.

That explains almost everything about Bradford.

Look, just so we are aware that our hobby does produce a bunch of total idiots and it isn't all the media's fault (even if I think half of it is the media's fault), I shall recount the famous LT Head Wound story, for those who haven't heard it.

A few years ago, concerned at the number of head wounds in the yearly medical report, Lorien Trust (largest of the Fest-style LRP companies in the UK) decided to do something about it.

So, they made the head a non-target. Hitting it would not be a wound, so there was no point in targeting the head. People seen deliberately doing so, would be taken out of the fight. The rules were changed, and LT saw that they were good and sat back to see what happened.

Next year, the head wounds reported in the first aid report had shot upward. Bit odd. Why's this happening?

Yes, you guessed it, people were blocking with their heads!

Given an 'invulnerable' body part, the total [insert non-forum word for idiots here] were attempting all sorts of interesting moves to get their heads in the way of weapons. Given that these same numpties tend to go out and buy the biggest, most ludicrous weapon you can find to use, these people were putting their heads in the way of very heavy lumps of latex!

So, the rule went back to normal (a head hit is a valid hit, but you should avoid hitting the head) and the head wounds went down again.

To this day, however, the main injuries at an LT event are head wounds and twisted ankles.

OTOH, the police don't generally turn up to try to shoot the players.

It's not the police turning up to shoot the players I mind, it's them not rolling for initiative first.

I actually think this explains a lot about the mentality of many (most?) live roleplayers*

Give me a pen and paper game with some mates, pizza number and booze at the ready, any day over this.

*I merely dabbled in my youth. Vampire was good, met lotsa women for one (including my current partner of 10(!) years), but I was never into the giant latex hammer and camping out, wearing furs yadda yadda. Too much like hard work to me.

Actually, it says a lot about a lot of LARPers who turn up to the big LT events, rather than the more core LARPers. You get what are known as numpties. They tend to turn up only for the biggest event at August bank holiday. Their costume is jeans and a heavy metal T-shirt turned inside out (which they think counts as heavy armour), and the weapon they are carrying is the largest and most lethal looking thing they could spend their allowance on. They proceed to weild this horror with all the dexterity and intelligence of a Bedrock let loose in a toxic waste factory.

[/ QUOTE ]

That sounds a lot like an LT LARP event, except without the PnP game. Oh, and if the booze is ready, someone's probably drinking it.

By the way, my current LT character doesn't wear furs. He's more of a silk shirt, leather trousers, wasitcoat and great coat sort of man. Total ponce. And this year he gets to blow people's heads off at range.
